We haven't had a thread on the war on terror lately so let's check up on Bush's pet project. Right now, it's not looking good. I mean, we've got Bin Laden on tape, claiming he wants peace (about as much as I want a heaping plate of shit I bet). The pentagon does not believe we can hold Iraq. Pakistan could go radical on us and cost us a valuable ally and put real nukes in the hands of isalmic fundamentalists.

Actually this is a relatively bad time to check on the war on terror.

Wat's other people's impressions on how the war on terror has been going lately?

There's no war on terror.

Probably because you can't fight terror, or terrorism.

I know many times I have compared it to punching a puddle. You can stir it up but in the end, you haven't done anything to harm it.

Pakistan's not going anywhere. If they so much as look at us wrong, we'll take it as a threat and invade them (with India on our side). Pakistan's leader is considered one of the top 10 worst dictators (thank you, Parade). And, as any Indian can attest, there ARE terrorists in Pakistan.

As for bin Laden...who is that again?

The Iraq situation is looking more cross-eyed than ever. A report comes out saying that US forces are stretched to the breaking point and canNOT force an end to the insurgency, while Rumsfeld says "yes, we can."

Then there's the Philippines. How many troops have we lost there? Oh, I forgot...no one cares. It's the forgotten war. Ironically, the Philippines is an ACTUAL terrorist hot bed, and has been for over a decade (it's been called the Pacific Afghanistan) and yet the success there gets NO attention. Hell, are we even over there anymore?

And then we've got Iran. Which is, actually...a sensible target. And, if that's not enough, EUROPE'S ON OUR SIDE. But, for some reason, I predict we'll end up going in on our own, again (because we're America, dammit...we want war, and we want war NOW). I just wish Iran would stop egging the world on. I mean...a Holocaust conference? What the hell? Although I did think the line about Israel being Europe's final solution to be kinda funny (in the sense that it actually makes sense, considering European history).

The world's going to Hell. Let's at least have fun along the way.

I'll remidn you that Pakistan has nukes, Grn.

We all know what American does with Nukes-wielding enemies. They negociate :-p

And we have at least four nations behind us incase we screw up.

I think Bush screwed up when he made this a war. The 9/11 attacks should have been treated as an act of war by afganistan alone. Then we should have concentrated on Afganistan until had Bin Laden either dead or captured and put him on trial for war crimes.

To prevent further terror, we should have began an investifation of 9/11 before October. Instead of waiting a year and a half. This should have happened before any actions like the patriot act occured.

But there's nothing like 20/20 hindsight (which Bush even lacks). We should this as a lesson though. This is what happens when we rush blindly and don't plan out our actions and their consquences for us and our cause.

Foolish mortals, Operation Iraqi Liberation isn't in the best interests of the United States, and never was. It's just the neoconservatives actively using political power to appease their personal interests; amassing as much money as possible and fleeing the US. If the world economy hasn't told you lot, US hegemony is starting to wane, however slightly, with a rising new power in China. You lot do realize that oil is going to be much cheaper when Alaska and the Arab nations run out, right...?

I think we're all going to end up killing each other before this is over. I never supported the so-called war on terror. It has ruined foreign relations for years to come. I don't care who can blow us up to kingdom come, as long as they don't want to blow us up. Duly noted that the extremist Muslims do want to blow us up, but really, you can't condemn someone for something they haven't really done, or has justice lost all meaning in this age, and you can be incarcerated just for thinking the wrong things? There have been countless science fictions that have warned us about this, and still no one listens. You can try with all your might to try to "rid the world of evil", but what is evil? It's different things for different people. It's a point of view, it's an opinion. Are you going to condemn people just for thinking differently from you? Then you will have to destroy the entire human race save for yourself! I know a lot of people here would love to see that happen. As much as I share the sentiment of the human condition, I know that wouldn't be fair. The entire idea is just wrong, or at least to me it is. I am not about to let anyone walk all over me, either.

I feel stupid for forgetting that. I still remember the whole build-up of arms on the Pakistan/India border. But it's certainly not like Pakistan's the biggest nuclear threat.

Spend a day in North Korea. You'll never want to leave. Or...you won't be able to.

There have been countless science fictions that have warned us about this, and still no one listens.

Let's be honest. There are also countless science fiction stories about us exploring other worlds and accidentally starting a galactic war. Fiction's not exactly a good indicator of real life. Unless my neighbor really IS a pod-person.

Well, it's where pants are optional. :-)

...

We've got a tender scientific process here called TDP that allows us to turn any carbon-based simple or macromolecule chains (even diamond, bucky balls and nanotubes) into short hydrocarbon chains. It's an unlimited supply of oil; the petroleum companies heard about it and are investing. So why not invest billions in the process instead of a cool $55 mil...?

The companies are making money hand over fist with the rising oil prices. If I was in their position, I wouldn't piss that away, either.

It's just as profitable for them to buy out the producers and get the same tight grasp over it that it has over conventional sites.

Now that we've established that at least part of the real reason for the war on terror is oil. However, I think there is another. Bush was an ineffective president before 9/11.

The Republicans lost the Senate due to one of their own declaring himself as an independant. The economy as not taking too well to his tax cuts. Then came 9/11 and Bush could get in front of the destroyed world trade center and rally America behind him. And so, he continues this war because he knows without it, he's nothing.

there should not have been any war in Irak....all conflicts can be solved peacefuly...there should be no wars at all...i know...is an utopic thought...but..think about it...so many people die every day for a cause they don't understand in most of the cases...why...for others to get the power over the oil in arrabian arrea.they should fight each other...not innocent young boys and girls...don't you think?
