Was Gary the only playmate Ash had when he was younger before his official journey?

I think Ash has many playmates beside Gary. If Gary Oak is the only playmate, not involving the movies since movies is not a canon, he had lose interest in girls except for his own mother before his official journey. Ash had never mentioned a girl playmate before his journey, or even on his journeys from the Original to Best Wishes series. Ash's house have no nearby neighbors, so a young Ash walked or run to his playmates around the town, and no one befriended Ash until a famous Gary Oak rescued him from being a lone wolf.

Pallet Town has many children of the same age as Ash and Gary, but not a mentioned a girl playmate by the writer may cause a blunder to the series including the current ones. Since Ash is Satoshi in Japan and Gary Oak is Shigeru in Japan, I wished that some guys and gals from Japan will answer my question.

I am sure more than two young boys lived at Pallet.

He could have had other playmates or not, but Gary was the only relevant one, it seems.

I'm guessing Gary was Ash's BFF when they were young, and even there were other children, they live near each other, so they would've hanged out pretty often than anyone else
