Was it a mistake for Dawn to get Swinub?

Note: This is not a whining thread, this is just based off some observations that I have made

So Dawn has had Swinub for around ten episodes and a movie, and in these ten episodes+movie, it has done.......nothing. Lets look at her other Pokemon

Piplup: Ten episodes after Dawn got it, it had fought Dawn's Buneary for the capture, and was used in the appeal round of the Jubilife Contest

Buneary: Ten episodes after Dawn caught it, it was used in the battle round of the Jubilife contest

Pachirisu: Ten episodes after Dawn caught it, it was used in both the battle and appeal rounds of the practice contest, and the appeal round of the Floaroma Contest

Buizel: Ten episodes after Dawn caught it, it had battled Lucian's Bronzong, and been used in Dawn's practice Double Contest battle with Ash

Aipom/Ambipom: Ten Episodes after Dawn recieved it from Ash it had evolved and been used in the appeal round of the Solaceon Contest

I mean, aside from being captured, eating stuff, and being defeated in 2 seconds by wild Psyduck, what has it done? Jack Squat.

So, do you think Dawn should have captured Swinub? I think she should have caught it at a later time, for example just before she wins her 4th Ribbon, instead of her 3rd ribbon when it was actually caught
 
Dawn didn't get to do anything with Aipom as an Aipom... it feels like Dawn didn't even have Aipom at all and recieved it as an Ambipom
Maybe the same will happen to Swinub who will get more or less ignored until it evolve
Dawn probably will use it in the next Contest unless that Hearthome
 
You're ignoring the fact that the Summer School arc happened immediately after Swinub's capture, and none of the Pokemon got screentime in that.
 
She SHOULD use it. Swinubs are friggin adorable.

Also, maybe Dawn should be investigated by the ASPCA for neglecting her pets.

But I don't think it was a mistake per say, maybe just the timing of the capture? I agree with your statement that maybe if she caught it a tiny bit later, it would've probably been given something to do.

I think waiting before her 4th ribbon would be too long though IMO. They want to showcase Mamoswine I'm guessing, and if it was caught that late I don't think it'd get the chance to do that without it feeling like a really rushed evolution. =/

Mostly because we've already seen alot of Aipom screen time when it was with Ash. It would have been more-or-less the same thing if it was an Aipom with Dawn.

Sometimes I think you people have no sense of how to predict stuff. I'm more then willing to bet that Swinub will be used alot more in future episodes.

I'll probably evolve quickly into a Mamoswine.
 
We've seen plenty of Swinub when it was a Muchlax. I do think the piggy has alot of potential and should be used more often. Don't forget, the main cast has 6 + 5 + 3 = 14 pokemon to use. There's also TR and the main plot 'gettig in the way' of things.

I still think it'd be nice if we could see Dawn with Aipom a little longer
But ok maybe that wasn't the best examples... Gligar and especially Yanma are much better examples of what I tried to say
Maybe they just don't want to give these Johto Pokémon much screen time until they evolve... I guess Aipom was lucky... even Paul's Murkrow didn't really do much and quickly evolved
 
I felt with Gligar was that once Ash got it, everyone was already talking about Gliscor, mainly because of the Movie 11 poster spoiler. That irritated me. So it was a no-brainer to be a Gliscor.

Feels like some priorities are messed up here. Evolve certain recent Pokemon, but not others that had character issues in the beginning, like Chimchar.

The writers are using the "evolve card" for showing off a trainer's Pokemon more. The same will happen with Swinub here.

Even Buneary was neglected for a long time until recently.

They should have kept Dawn's team at 4 and just left her like this for all of Sinnoh. She did NOT need Swinub and that could have gone to Brock.

I hate to say this, Scott, but would Swinub have been better off with Brock? It's not like Brock was going to use it in many battles or appeals or anything. Don't get me wrong, Brock's a great character, and his Pokemon have been doing a lot more than they have in, say, Johto. But at least with Dawn having Swinub, there's a chance that it'll eventually be used in some contests. Brock's Pokemon do little other than chores, comic relief, and maybe blast off the Rockets occasionally. I really suspect Swinub will get its day eventually...probably after it evolves into Mamoswine. At least that's my way of looking at it.
 
I've been thinkin about this. We should just give it a bit more time. Maybe Dawn'll use it in her next contest.

I totally agree. Like the old saying goes: "Rome wasn't built in a day". Give Dawn a little more time and patience and eventually it will probably work out.

It's almost as if the writers want to promote Pokémon introduced in Diamond and Pearl...

Do you think it's possible that this show is franchise driven?

Well Pikachu and Piplup appeared, but thats a given

Buizel appeared in the lake episode, Happiny and Croagunk appeared in the Triathalon episode

LOL I feel they should have just let Dawn have one. It seems that's all she can use *Cough* Pipulp *Cough*

By screentime, Geodude ment "Specifically given the focus" rather then "Out of their Pokéball and in the background".
 
That's right.

So basically the answer to the question posed in this topic is that it's obviously too early to say.
