As we all know, the first 23 episodes of BW were rushed to try and get the TR/TP arc out of the way. However, due to the possibility of those episodes being permanently banned, do you believe that the first 23 episodes of BW were wasted?

I think they were wasted, as we saw from BW024 - BW050, there were more story arcs and character development packed in than the first 23 episodes. If the TR/TP episodes weren't planned at all, BW would have started a lot more casually. When you see the length of the gym droughts in BW, it goes from 11, to 7, and then suddenly jolts up to 27, which just rubs in how bad the pacing was back then.

What are your thoughts?

Eh, I feel that only the infamous scenes with the Rockets were wasted... and I mean the "briefcase scenes" from episode 7 forwards, when the Rockets didn't meet Satoshi-tachi for a long time and were doing stuff that was heavily related to the upcoming arc. Except for the Venipede episode, of course...

Oh. And I think Flint/Pierce was a totally wasted character. I really wish we could know what the hay happened to him in the Plasma arc. He left such a dry taste in my mouth and then he just disappeared, making things even worse. Not that I liked him, but it's still a shame leaving a recurring character unfinished. At the moment, I'm convinced that he died.

I forgot about Pierce. I presume he died in the Plasma arc, or maybe he took a plane to live by a seaside resort.

The writing has been exactly the same with the same quality(good) in most episode, the first episode weren't rushed...

Well, the meteorite stuff didn't really start until the seventh or eighth episode, so those would have likely remained the same.

And I chalk up the terrible pacing to bad writing. I don't think the Rocket / Plasma stuff had anything to do with those first few gyms being so close together.

The TR plot, yes. The rest of the show? NO. Besides, I don't think the pacing had anything to do with the TP eps.

I thought that the series had bad pacing at the start because the writers wanted to get the TR/TP arc out of the way as early as possible.

I think everything started to went downhill after the Snivy episode. It was during BW008 that the writers have first expanded on the meteonite plotline. Certain episodes, such as the Dwebble and Trubbish episode, weren't too great because the writers decided to spend additional time with TRio's meteonite plot.

I have to admit that I did like the part when Jessie and Meowth snuck into the Nacrene Museum to steal the real meteonite and switch it with a fake. Although it was something that they had obtained around BW010, it was connected to this operation. The meteonite was mentioned and shown in BW014, which means that there is some continuity and good writing involved.

There was some potential here, but of course due to the circumstances we never truly got to see how the meteonite affected anything.

I think the fact that they even put the Team Plasma storyline on hold after BW25, even if they did air, is ridiculous.

Its now been nearly 30 episodes since Team Plasma's first appearance and Giovanni. Why the hell did they build them up so much just to have both completely disappear? Best Wishes turned out very disappointing IMO.

He's in the same plot hole as Giovanni. Someone has to get them both out.

Perhaps Flint was arrested by Looker, I think that's why he stopped appearing.

The Galaxy Gang got a split-second behind-the-scenes appearance in DP36, then a very minor appearance in DP60 to kickstart an unrelated plot, and finally a proper introduction in DP69. It's not really all that unprecedented.

Yes but in the middle of all that was the Pokehunter J episodes which kept us interested and would lead into the Galactic finale.

Best Wishes needs recurring villains, and no I don't mean Jessie/James and Zager every so often.

None of the episodes in full were in waste, just the important TR scenes concerning the Meteornite.

Since we're already 50 episodes in and i'm assuming Satoshi is leaving or has already left Nimbasa, they missed a good oppurtuniy to have the Plasma arc take place there.

So in a way, yes it was wasted, but all the episodes leading up to it weren't a waste, except "A Venipede Stampede!".

No way. Only 2-3 could be considered filler, and the others were mostly pretty good. Nothing was a total waste.

The real life events at the time were just unfortunate, that's all.

I wouldn't call them "wasted", but it's still a bit sad and frustrating that the build-up to what would have been a pivotal 2-parter was a dud.

Also, I find the thought that the Venipede are still swarming Castelia City highly amusing. Everyone there must have probably learned to live with the highly venomous (but affectionate) dog-sized bugs.

This is basically the same thing that happened when the GS Ball was dropped, we will only know what truly happened with Team Plasma and the Meteorite if we managed to contact one of the producers of the show, after all, that's how we found out what the heck happened to the GS Ball, I'm pretty sure there is an answer to this mess out there somewhere...

...but we know what happened with the Plasma Gang. Their first appearance was to be in a pair of episodes that were skipped because of the earthquake, and that's it. The GS Ball was deliberately written out of the series because the powers that be decided against the planned conclusion to the arc, which is, you know, completely different.

As of now, TV Tokyo is still saying the episodes "will be aired at a later date". They aired the other episode that got skipped over due to the earthquake, so I really don't see any reason to assume this isn't still the case.
