In the anime, the three Lake Pokemon synchronized or whatever with Ash, Dawn, and Brock. Were the matchups intentional?
Mesprit-Dawn
Azelf-Ash
Uxie-Brock

If you look up the descriptions of the Lake Pokemon, then:
Mesprit is the Being of Emotion
Azelf is the Being of Willpower
Uxie is Being of Knowledge

And they match with the personalities of the people they synched with:
Dawn, who is more given over to emotion than Ash or Brock, gets partnered with the Being of Emotion.
Ash, who possesses a single-minded drive and determination, gets partnered with the Being of Willpower.
Brock, who has more textbook knowledge than either of his friends, gets partnered with the Being of Knowledge.

Was this symbolism lost on everyone? I don't know, it just ocurred to me one day and I ran with it.

The writers obviously paired the two trios up with whoever was the most compatible.

Eh. I just find it kind of funny how both Brock gets paired with the squinty-eyed one.

Nope. The symbology exists in the games as well. Cyrus shuns al emotion. Mesprit, the being of Emotion is the one connected to the player.

Anyway, you're new. So Welcome.

Definitely. On the galatic battles 'finale', they all used their 'powers' to stop Dialga/Palkia, the animations represented the trait. Azelf (Ash)'s power represented Willpower - it quickly ran towards them to stop it. Uxie (Brock)'s power represented Knowledge - Brock seemed to float towards them like Damos in the Arceus movie, and told them that they should stop because everything is alright now. Mesprit (Dawn)'s power represented Emotion, I'm pretty sure she just stood there and closed her eyes or something, which represents her feelings getting towards them. I think there was defintely a link, though the fact that Mesprit appeared in the first episode... was it planned then? Not sure.

It was intentional. Each of the lake Pokemon was paired with the trainer that shared whatever things they had in common.

I think the real question is whether the game developers actually took in consideration to the anime when developing the "pixies.'

Granted WillPower, Emotion, and Knowledge, are pretty typical, but I wonder how they ended up matching the characters?

Although Dawn was likely created just so she could match Mesprit. If Ash was emotional for example, Dawn's personality would probably be centered around will power. And Brock was probably only included just because he is knowledgeable.

But I have to wonder if it was mostly coincidental or not, since like I said Dawn was obviously created to match Mesprit. And Brock likely only came back because he matched one of the Pixies.

After thinking about it, maybe the anime was just lucky.

It's pretty obvious that it is... the directors weren't just slacking off.

I always felt it was kind of obvious, but yes, it's definitely intentional. ^^

The finale showed this quite well, as was previously stated.

Well, yeah of course it was intentional.

The whole "willpower, heart and knowledge" thing is a pretty common trope - Dawn, Ash and Brock make up a "power trio" - the id, ego and superego.

IF it was intentional or not, it worked perfectly. The weird thing is how it's always Ash "saving the world" there must be more capable people out there, other than a 10 year old boy.
It shocked me how Pokemon Hunter J got seemingly killed in the anime, I thought it was a kids show!!

Actually, this isn't the first time they've killed a human on Pokemon.

In the special, The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, Dr. Yung/The Phantom was seemingly "killed" in an explosion. And if I remember correctly, we never found out whether he survived or not. So what happened with that character was similar to what they did with Hunter J.

I said Hunter J because the Lake Trio attackd her, and this thread is about the Lake Trio. I didn't say it was the only time a human had died, or the only time anything died. I just commented on how it was shocking that they killed someone, I know it isn't wans't just her, Ash died in The First Movie, but was revived, Lucario and Sir Aaron died in the ninth. Don't pull out your own crap from what I said, you have your opionions I have mine.
