So far, all Water and Grass starter Pokémon have been in the Blue and Green color categories, respectively. However, Fire-type starters have been in three color categories: Red in Gens I, III, and V, Yellow in Gen II, and Brown in Gen IV.

So, I was wondering, do you ever think there will be a Water or Grass starter family who isn't in the Blue or Green color category, respectively?

I'm sure there will be.

I don't think that the color categories are what determines the color scheme of a Pokemon at all - it's just an afterthought to help people organize their Pokemon into different groups. It would be very strange for anyone to assert that for every generation ever they will never use another palette for the starters. Although Oshawott probably could have easily fit into the White subgroup...I mean, here are a few "white" Pokemon:

I'm sure there will be a starter Pokémon at some point. Sure, they've changed non-blue animals to blue for Pokémon (like Oshawott), but it's bound to happen eventually. Saying that though, all fire-starters have been of a colour related to fire (red, orange or black), all grass starters have had green on them...so maybe all water starters will at least have some blue on them?

There's a pink shellos
Well, Shellos isn't a starter Pokémon.

Well, I am not refering to the actual colors, but their color categories in the Pokédex. Fire is the only starter type where its starters have not been of a single color category (Red in Gens I, III, and V, Yellow in Gen II, and Brown in Gen IV).

I doubt it. The starters are usually pretty simply designed when it comes to colours, and Chimchar's "brown" is pretty much orange, which gets lumped into the red category anyway. Cyndaquil's pretty much just an oddball in this regard.

I don't see how Bulbasaur isn't in Blue. It's skin looks blue to me. Oshawott is the only water starter I can see in a different color group.

His mini-icon helps me out when I wonder the same thing. It's very obviously green.
