I mean some Pokémon are so different from other Pokémon and Humans are just another animal. Way can't Poké balls catch humans?

Why would they be named POKEballs then? Poke of course being short for Pokemon..or does that confuse you somehow?

It must be some hyper-advanced form of technology that we don't have here. I recall in one episode Jessie taking a Pokeball for a golden Sudowoodo, but it wouldn't capture her. She was rather shaken, and was all "ohh so that's what it feels like".

Of course, anime does not equal games, so I don't know why one can't catch a human in games. Maybe no-one's tried. Although it's probably a good thing if Pokeballs are programmed not to catch humans. I'm getting disturbed just imaging the things people could do if they can "capture" humans...

i think the balls are programmed to only catch pokemon. future devolopments might make human capture possible, like the Snag machine made stealing pokemon possible (People snagging for XD sequal?)

If we're going by the anime, I don't know that your regular poké ball could hold a human-- it seems that the bigger the pokémon is, the larger the poké ball must be. (This sort of holds true in the games as well, when I think about it.) But even with a larger ball, I don't think they would catch humans. The technology is likely made just to absorb pokémon cells or whatever, which certain seem to differ greatly from a human's.

On the other hand, if that technology exists, then there's no doubt that they could make something to catch humans if they wanted. It just... wouldn't make sense to make that available to the general public. XD

I donno if poké balls have always had that technology, though. Remember in Pokémon 4Ever, when Sammy had his like... screw-top poké ball? XD I wonder if it's the same or what.

Wailord...

POKEmon, POKEballs you do the common sensing cause I don't know why they can't catch humans

Gameplay and story segregation. It'd be too easy to take out villains (or heroes) if you could just catch them in Pokéballs.

However, I can think of one logical justification. Pokéballs were made by humans, so they probably just made them so they wouldn't work on humans, one way or another.

If there were balls for catching humans... They'd be called humanballs. Not a bad idea, actually. I could snag any guy I wanted. ;3 (teehee, jk)

then it would be a sort of slavery. And then parents would complain about it, and how pokémon promotes slavery and stuff. There's your reason.

My theory is that pokemon have some unique property in their DNA that is recognized by the pokeball. Humans, inanimate objects, etc. don't have this, so they can't be captured.

Well pokéballs do contain itmes...I dont see why not people...or anything else...
I think it's been confirmed that item balls are not the same as Pokéballs, they just use the same model.

It's even possible that they're even bigger than Pokéballs, since it's possible to mistake them for Voltorbs.

So item balls are made specifically for items, and cannot catch Pokémon.

Poke Balls are made for catching Pokemon, and cannot catch items.

I get it now.

I always assumed this, as much as I'd love to catch Jasmine. I'd use a luxury ball, I swear.

One of the options Lucian can talk about in the Canalave Library is how Pokemon often curl up in an attempt at healing, and the Pokeball takes advantage of that instinct, hence why you lower HP.

So its probably the Pokeball taking advantage of that instinct by providing it with a "safe zone" to rest.

I see it as there is a safety device that prevents capturing Humans. Of course, there is probably a device that also does not allow you to steal other peoples' Pokemon. If the Snag Machine can override the "theft lockout", then there is no reason someone could make a device that overrides the "Human capture" safety device. Of course, it is probably HIGHLY illegal to do so.

Of course, such modified Pokeballs would make for pretty good less-than-lethal weapons.

Granted, I do believe that in one episode of the anime, the return beam of a Pokeball, when directed at Humans acts as a ranged and apparently rather powerful stun cannon.

Also, if item and Pokeballs are a different item and are not interchangable, than how does that explain Brock catching a rice ball/jelly donut? Did he get a malfunctioning model?
