2013 saw the release of Kickstarter's golden boy, the Pebble Smartwatch, bringing wearable tech out of the realm of super-geekdom and into the trend. 2014 brought Android Wear and the announcement of the Apple Watch, along with further development into Google Glass (which has now sadly been cast aside in favor of a newer, quite similar prospect). We also saw fledgling companies break into prominence with fitness trackers, wearable GPS, and their own brand of wearable technology (mostly smartwatches) take center stage. Even the last few weeks, with CES 2015, we saw the highlights of home management, personal security, and revolutionary interfacing break into the world of the wearable. My question to the forums is: What is your experience with wearable technology?
I myself have a Pebble Steel smartwatch that I wear everywhere. As my job requires me to wear business attire for the most part (I work in the lab at a hospital), it doesn't clash and actually falls into the background. Everyone I work with has a watch, some round-faced, some square-faced, so my smartwatch doesn't stand out.
I like it mostly because I don't have to whip out my phone every time I want to check a notification. It gets sent directly to my wrist. I can control my music from my arm, access quick notes, and quite a lot more. I opted for pebble over Android Wear because frankly, I like what it does better. The always-visible e-ink display doesn't hurt either.
Sound off with your experiences. I'm curious.
