Some of you may have noticed how utterly retarded some MMORPG censoring systems are. Here you can talk about different times that censors go all weird. I can name two.

When I used to play on Runescape, I chatted with my buddies a lot. One time I typed in, "crap", and it was censored like this:

****

They thought I was saying the F word to them! Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed.

But the strangest by far is Pirates of the Carribean Online. They censor out words with "arrr", and I think their system is bugged up or something and Disney's too lazy to fix it. So usually my sentances come out as "Hey arrr did you see arrr last night? arrr ripped out her heart when she was disguised as arrr and nearly killed arrr hith her arrr. Lucklily arrr and arrr saved arrr."

Obviously, they have no idea what I'm talking about. And I wasn't cussing at all- just using japanese names because I was talking about Naruto. But this is even weirder. Once, on the Pirates Online, I was goofing off with a bunch of other people. We were all saying a bunch of random anime quotes. I typed in, "Shadow Clone Jutsu!" and it came out as "Shadow Clone arrr!". WTF? "Jutsu" is Japanese for "technique", so there's nothing bad about it. Then I type in, "What the fuck?", and they don't censor out the F word! What the hell?! So then we all start dropping F bombs everywhere.

So, feel free to comment on other people's experinces, as well as your own.

Though I don't all the words it applies to, the same's true of Guild Wars. In GW, you can quickly say who you're targeting and what attack you're using on them by targeting the creature, holding ctrl, then double-clicking them to attack or hitting space bar (attack). There's a creature called Nazeem the Damned and apparently, if you try it on him, it comes out something like "I'm attacking Nazeem the ****ed!" Someone blogged that they got thrown out of their guild because they ctrl+attacked him and an oversensitive twit whined (though from what I remember, they also said they had a history of getting in trouble for swearing; however, it's not their fault the game makers named Nazeem the way they did).

That PotCO one's just frickin' weird.

That is a weird one. Though kind of funny, I think.

I hate Maple Story's filter. It doesn't replace words, just makes you type your whole damn message again. Which is a pain when you then have to sort through what you just typed to find the hidden swear. About the weirdest they get is when they filter out items that are in the game, like wish tickets (hidden shit?) and document. It sucks.

There's also the Damned Cleric, which becomes ****ed Cleric. And, while trying to type "get back" I found that "wet back" is censored. But, luckily, with Guild Wars, you can change your censorship settings (though I'm not sure what the highest censorship level blocks out, since the mid-level gets rid of any Damned thing). There's another word that gets blocked out that's fairly common, and was actually in a player's name. Wish I could remember it.

I wonder if that pirates of the Caribbeans thing is because their censorship works by a dictionary of known words, user names, and game terms, and any word that isn't found is immediately censored. That doesn't make much sense, but I believe Disney has done stranger.

It is funny that Guild Wars even has a censor for words like Damn when it is rated 'T' for "teen". Any word that won't effect the ESRB rating should not even be considered a swear word.

One would assume so, but the Jack Thompsons of the world beg to differ. I'm guessing NC Soft's just trying to cover its ass.

This is a Pirate game damnit!

Ain't none of your sissy ninja talk allowed in a pirate game, jesus christ!

"Hey arrr did you see arrr last night? arrr ripped out her heart when she was disguised as arrr and nearly killed arrr hith her arrr. Lucklily arrr and arrr saved arrr."
Gasp...I think I actually know what the "arrs" are.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~

Uh oh, dat should'a been arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr'd.

Wahaha, Waluigi!

Virtual Magic Kingdom

Words that are not related to VMK any way is censored. Sucks, right?

Not really in a MMORPG, but when I frequently played Half-Life and mods, I ran into some amusing conversations made moreso amusing by swear filters.

A discussion about David H***lehoff, for one.

While I played WoW, I never really saw the filter in action. People seemed to find ways to make their swears visible to everyone with the filter on (it is on by default, but it can be turned off...) :/

Amazing how retarded censoring systems are, isn't it?

lol.

When I played Maple Story, I tried to mention to someone that I'd found a new sword, but I kept getting told that I was swearing. I finally managed to determine it was blocking the word "sword". I'm assuming because it's "s-word".

I remember, though it wasn't necessarily an MMORPG, a site that had broken censors, and would block apostrophes. It also blocked the words 'bad as'.

Lol blocking apstrophes. They must be deadly or something.

The evil apostrophies killed mah pekineze!
