Me and Belthazar were trying to trade with each other. Both of us had each other registered, but when we try to connect, both of us get the "You are not registered in this person's friend roster" message. What is the problem, and has this happened to anyone else?

This has also happened with DarkTorterra, whcih is weird because he had managed to link up with me almost an hour ago

The same thing happened to me I just fixed it by logging off and coming back in. *or maybe they didn't put you in their roster.*

No, we were on each other's since we both tried to respond to each other's invite. It keeps giving me the option to log back on so I do, that didn't fix it. I even logged off completely because I needed to plug in my charger and check our friend codes. Still nothing.

I connected with three other people just fine yesterday after our failed attempt at trading, so I don't think it's a problem at my end...

It seems that it could be a problem at your end, "L", as I traded with Belthazar earlier. Have you checked your Wi - Fi connection?

I have to find someone to check my setting now if it's better.

I traded with belthezar yesterday. It all went fine except for some "communication error" screen. when we came back on it wasnt a problem.

Yah, that was a little tedious. =)

The error message I got while trying to trade with empoleon dynamite (and occasionally when trading with others) ended with the number 86420 in brackets - thinking it might have been an error code, I looked it up on the Nintendo Wi-Fi page, which said it means there was a problem establishing a UDP connection. I'm behind a router, so that might possibly be causing problems - the trick is that it's not consistent. It goes away after a while, and it also seems to depend on who's doing the inviting for the trade. Any idea which ports Nintendo Wi-Fi uses? That way I could use port forwarding to give my computer access outside.

That said, the error message I got with L is different to the error message I described above, so I'm not sure if it's got the same solution...

Really, I think it's the wifi connector, I can't believe Nintendo would put their name on such a shoddy device. I need to get a new one, a different one.

Customer service is crap as well when none of their advice works.

you could probably get a decent wireless router for the same price, and they have an actual resell value/use for other things.

We've got a real wireless router, but the DS can't handle the encryption it uses. I'm not particularly interested in downgrading my security just so that I can connect to Wi-Fi. Sure, getting occasionally disconnected from Wi-Fi sometimes gets a bit tedious, but considering the alternative is standing in computer game shops or sitting in McDonalds looking stupid, I know which I'd prefer.

Apparently the Nintendo connector is simply a re-branded Buffalo wireless thingy. Not too sure exactly what you'd call it...

The most frustrating thing about this situation is that I have things L wants, and he has things I want, but we can't connect to actually do the trade.

What's even more frustrating is that I was going to start a breeding shop of some of the most common OU Pokemon, and breed them with decent movesets and natures for those who can't be bothered and trade it to them for random things.....

Downgrading a router isn't really going to be a problem for me since I would only use it for Nintendo, as long as it works better.
