So I'm trying to link my DS to my wireless router and it asks for the WEP key, but my router uses WPA, so I plugged that in instead but doesn't work.

So how would I go about fixing this?

WEP and WPA are two different encryption methods used by wireless networks (essentially, they keep people from intercepting the data you send/receive). WEP is older and weaker, WPA is newer and stronger. The DS only supports WEP, though I think the DSi (when you can get one of those) supports WPA. Get a DS/Wii USB wi-fi dongle for your computer (assuming you have a PC) and use that to connect your DS.

You don't. Or rather, you can only use WEP if you want the WiFi connection.

The DS won't recognize a WPA level encryption so you either work with the lower protection or more unfortunately, none at all.

WEP is actually incredibly weak and I don't reccomend using it. If you can, get the USB device and use that to connect your DS, that way you don't have to open up your entire network like that.

I have the USB thing, its just that its a tempermental piece of crap :/

I'm just wondering if the Wii will atleast recognise WPA since I'm not in the mood for weakening my protection to play a videogame.

The Wii will recognize WPA, thankfully. It's a shame the DS isn't capable of recognizing WPA encryption since it'd be a lot less of worry on security. At least Nintendo is correcting that with the launch of the DSi as Yoshi said, but that doesn't do anything for current DS and DSlite owners. :/

Exactly, I hate that Nintendo did not include WPA encryption on the DS and DS Lite since it is far more secure than WEP especially with the WPA-PSK(TKIP) mode set on routers. Even then I am happy with my DS and have a Playstation Portable which will do all the multimedia aspects that the DSi can except for the camera, which the Playstation Portable has as an option but I don't have at this time.

I had this exact same problem. So I also got the Nintendo USB hub to try to get around it but I found the POS to be just about worthless, either dropping me every other game or not letting me connect at all. So I broke down and ended up switching my router over to a WEP connection instead of WPA since I don't live in a very populated neighborhood, full of mostly senior citzens anyways and I'm not to concerned about any of them cracking my connection. Bottom line is Nintendo really should have the support for more secure connections by now.

Too bad we can't use the Wii as an access point for the DS

EDIT: Apparantly my Wifi USB connector is being affected by my wireless router and is keeping it from working ;/
