Were the DP specials a one-shot thing after all?

Back in February of this year we got two specials about Dawn and Brock after DP ended. Since then...there have never been anymore special episodes, for either those two characters or any other DP character.

Unlike the set of hoso specials that aired back in AG where they made somewhere around 15 of them, it seems those two DP specials were a one-shot thing, intended to give a bit more closure to Dawn/Brock that we didn't see in DP191.

I had somewhat thought Paul would get a special, since he said he wanted to re-challenge Brandon, but now that DP is almost a year old and such, I doubt he'll ever be seen or mentioned again. At this point it also seems like Dawn and Brock are done for the forseeable future.

It seems like the writers really are done with promoting past characters. I'd be very surprised if a new special pops up randomly now that we're almost 1 year into BW, especially when BW itself hardly ever references the past at all.

Your thoughts? Do you feel the DP specials were a one-shot thing and the writers are done with past characters?

Its almost been a year since the DP series itself ended though, which was last September. We also have confirmed titles through August now.

You have to remember the two specials aired not too long after DP ended, but now its almost been a year since that series concluded. With the BW saga itself avoiding mentioning past events much, it makes me think the writers aren't going to do any more specials.

Or, it could be an annual thing. I'm not saying it's not possible it was only a one time deal, but it's too early to assume that.

Like others said it hasnt passed enough time to make such call.While i have my doubts of new specials being made i wouldnt write out option of more of them being made in future.
I didnt even expected that Dawn and Brock will get pokemon specials after DP ended but to my surprise they happened,so there might be some glimpse of hope for more of them being made at some point.

Many of ex Ash traveling companions werent wrapped up with there existing potential to do more with them having things to offer on table.For example Mistys story and goal of becoming water master was left unfinished with things being left at standstill currently at gym.
With Brock writers didnt cleared up everything leaving unanswered things about his newly founded career not being known i what direction this decision will take him(like:will he become traveling doctor?what else he might need to fulfill aside from studying?etc).
With May we dont know how she went at Johto GF and if she mange to become top coordinator like she intended to.etc.

For that reason alone we cant claim how writers are "done with past characters"when they clearly didnt finished their job about them.Whether they intend to continue from where they stopped is another pair of sleeves though.

Seeing how much older characters like Gary,Jessibelle and nowdays Giovanni managed to find their way to appear in main series when noone expected it writers could easily make new set of specials following adventures of past Ash companions to allow audience opportunity to follow adventures and further development of their favorites.

When you think about it more specials being made like new set of chronicles could really become a hit having enough characters and potential to do something really great out of it.Not only for DP characters but previous ones like Misty,May or Gary too.
This could prove to be good marketing move with attempt of attracting more of older fans toward this show gaining different age demographic while keeping target audience for main series.Judging by fans popular demand for more of them being made with AG specials being well received in past this would increase popularity of show increasing TV ratings.

Question is are writers able to recognize benefit behind this?

I'm not sure if its possible at this point. It would seem random for them to continue the DP special since the DP era seems over by now unless Gen 3 happens to get a remake and Dawn exploring Hoenn seems possible for her to get a special though I'm not sure for Brock maybe he can travel with her.

I think there is a chance we get some more specials! Of course it depends on the plans of the writters to include the characters into the anime!

I think we can look for a special if there is going to be an Ruby/Saphire remake! A special including May and Dawn in Hoenn, or introducing Brendan! Brendan meets May! Or something like that!
I would love to see a special one.hour special about May takin on Johto GF!

For Brock, I don't see a reason to make a special about him, maybe takin' classes at Med school but his story is truly told, nothing more to say!

Correction: It hasn't even been six months yet. It's far, far, far too early to be wondering about this sort of thing.
