i know its colours in kanto

in johto i think its plants

have no clue in hoenn

have no clue in sinoh

so, can some please explain if the names are named after anything in perticular in gens 3-4.

I think Johto is types of wood, im not entirely sure if they continue it beyond there, but i don't fully know.

Hoenn's towns are all made up of two words.

EX: Little Root, Petal Burg, Lily Cove... etc.

Sinnoh's town names describe the town's famous trademark. (Sandgem's sand and beach; Floaroma's gardens; Sunyshore's solar panels; etc)

If are wondering about the other regions (are they considered regions?)...

The Sevii Islands are named after archaic English words.
The Orange Islands come from the different types of oranges or citrus fruits.
In Fiore the main towns are after the four seasons.
And in Orre the main towns are named after types of minerals or rocks.

However, Phenac City is named after Phoenix, Arizona.
Phenac comes from the word of the mineral Phenakite.

heathrome and pastoria???
Hearthome = (heart, home) The city's description talks about how it's child-friendly and caring with many families living there.

Pastoria = (pastor) The Bible used pastor as a term like "being a Shepard" or "feeding sheep". Pastor could refer to Crasher Wake/Maximum Mask who uses his prize money to help others. (Bulbapedia says he was based on a real lucha libre who was an actual pastor)

Phenac comes from the word of the mineral Phenakite.

I really doubt that that's true considering that Orre itself is actually based off of Arizona. It might've been a "dual-pun", but it's widely known that Phenac came from Phoenix, not Phenakite. The issue is heavily debated however, but I'm sticking with what makes more sense.

but it's widely known that Phenac came from Phoenix
No it isn't. They said Orre as a whole was based on Arizona (or basically the desert part of it).

And considering Phenac is in the word "phenakite" and not in Phoenix, I'm deffinately going with that.

I'm sure I saw it somewhere that Phenac was taken from Phoenix and not Phenakite.

I fail to see how anyone could get Phoenix from Phenac especially since all the other towns have a mineral theme, including the Region itself.

Anything 3rd gen onwards is usually just two words that best fit the city's characteristics.

Could be, but what about Rustburo, Slateport, and Mauville? Wow, this discussion is confusing. xD

"Rust" and "Burrow", "Slate" and "Port"(duh), "Mauve" and "Village". The basic rule is, besides Pallet Town, every first town is related to plantlife. I also think Phenac is from Phenakite rather than Phoenix.

Oh! x_x

I don't think those names really suit the towns, though. =O

I especially don't think Mauville matches. The place doesn't have any shade of mauve, like the really early games, or a speck of mauve on it. Not even a purple or pink! Well, maybe pink...

I think Phenac is from phenakite too. Plus I agree that Mauville doesn't make sense. And what about Solaceon Town, Jubilife City, and Eterna City in Sinnoh?

Town of the sun?

Jubilee life in the city?

Eternal city?

They are all names that don't seem to match the traits of the town, but they do if you look beyond it.

Jubilife comes from Jubilee, like a celebration, and life, probably as it's such as it seems to be Sinnoh's big city.
