What are these comics?

The covers peg them as 4-koma/gag comics. Basically, collections of short little humour-comics from various different artists.

Alot of popular games seem to get 4-koma releases, though I've never seen Pokemon ones before. How neat! <3
 
Hmm, never seen these before...

The first one, 4334803520, is ancient - published October 1996, by Kōbunsha. This one is a 4koma, but it doesn't seem to be related to the current ones.

The second one, 4870256746, appears to be quite old - published April 1998... by [Square] Enix... The listed mangaka does not turn up any other results in the BookWeb database. It's part of a parody 4koma series published in the 月刊少年ギャグ王 Monthly Shōnen Gag King - they have also parodied Dragon Quest. There do not seem to be any other Pokémon-related episodes in this series.
 
Indeed, it even predates the anime, though it is 6 months after the original games were released.
 
There doesn't seem to be much of a title beyond "Pocket Monsters". "4koma Gag Battle" is either a sub-title or a series title.
 
Yeah, I think Zhen's right. Blackjack, I don't have the manga with me at the moment (I didn't bring it with me to college), but when I go home next month, I can look at it for ya. From what I remember, the book contains 4-koma from various artists, each one getting a section of the book to themselves. I have another 4-koma book (different from the "official" one that everybody seems to think about) that seems to be laid out the same way.

That's so cool. Please post some Information about story and characters of this manga and some pictures. These comics look so cool.
