Throughout the history of the Pokemon anime, there have been many ups and downs, characters and plots coming and going, and shifts in the writing style as a whole. My question is, where do you stand with the creators of the anime right now? Recently, some of us are under the impression that the BW series was a major blunder, but some would say Pokemon's better than ever. Assuming the show continues for many more sagas, do you think that the writers will maintain high standards in future sagas, or do you think their abilities to innovate are thinning and that more new writers should step up to the plate soon?

It's really hard to predict what will happen next series... for me, the show only improved with the time until BW started and returned to past mistakes... I hope next series will return to the AG/DP standards, but who knows...

I am ready for the series to end. With TR on their way out and Ash being reset I feel it's time to move on. The show needs to wrap up.

I agree. As much as I love the anime, I do have to admit it is starting to drag a bit and it is time for a change.

Well the question is more in the context of assuming the show continues, so I'll edit the first post to reflect that. Personally, considering the multi-billion franchise that it is, I'm confident that they wouldn't let it go down without trying as many options as possible. I think that in BW, they are trying really hard to innovate, but some of the effort is mediocre or backfiring. It might be that they're just trying to do too many new things at once. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are paying attention to their mistakes and will produce something along the lines of Hoenn quality in the next saga, but if they don't then I think it might be time to look for more staff.

NOT happening, The Anime will continue just as long as there's a profit to be had, qaulity & story be damned.

My expectations: they'll continue to screw up and not use good ideas to their full ptoential (or any potential) in favor of advertising video games & trading cards and pandering to small children

Yeah, what Pokemon could really use is a Lauren Faust or (if we're blessed by Lady Luck herself) a Yoshiyuki Tomino producer, director or writer to come in a give the show a makeover. Same with Eddie Guzelian who graced Power Rangers with RPM. Someone who gives a damn about telling an honest-to-God good story that appeals to viewers young AND old. Hell, Takashi Shuudo had the right idea before the Executive Meddling came into play.

I mean, Gundam advertises plastic toy models for KIDS and look at the franchise's Anime and Manga series. They certainly give more that two damns about telling a good story (Seed, Seed Destiny and Wing maybe not but still). Hell, in the 80s, Robotech was one of the few dubs or Macekres to allow death and violence on American TV. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Batman The Animated Series are pretty mature (outside sex and gore). And need I mention Pokemon Special?

The whole "it's for kids" shtick irks me to no end because it's an excuse to be lazy and make a waste of talent and entertainment.

I expect...no, that's much too strong a word...

I would like TPTB to let Ash grow the hell up and not repeatedly regress to Season 1. I would also like them to let Ash win a major league tourney. (Obviously I don't count the Orange Cup as "major league.")

I've suggested that they might have another character be the one to collect badges, and Ash could travel with him/her as a mentor, like Brock was and Cilan is.

I wish the Writer's let Ash grow !
A lot of Anime , Hero start off as a Loser but I want to see how that loser become the type of person we want to grow up to be !
Ash was a Loser when he start he journey and it was okay back then but after 14 year we want to see Ash as the person we want to grow up as. A TRUE WINNER !!!
The writer failed at this !
I don't think anyone want to be like Ash who can't protect his own pride ! Ash lose's his pride multiple time !
Like when he got beaten by Rocky !
Its like , He was Loser when he started he's journey & He's still a loser after 14 year !
I want to be like Perverted Ikki from Air Gear rather then Ash because Ikki can touch the Sky but Ash can't !
So , If those Writer aren't serious about writing then they should let batter writer take their place .
I believe the Pokemon Manga writer's are way better then Anime writer !
After all , The manga were more enjoyable then the Anime ever was !
So I think , The Producer should hire them to writer the Anime & Fire the one who come up with Ash's rebooting , Trip's superiority & Elesa's Gym battle !
My expectation of Writer is : They will learn from their mistake in Best wish ! Most Little Kids are impatient & they see themself in the main character place in Anime !
So, Writer have to figure out what kind trainer Most kid want's to be & reflect that Character on Ash !
Writer has to find the Idol trainer in Kids eye & then he must see that what trait of that Idol comparable with Ash !
For example
In AG , Writer mistake was that he make Ash too hot temper !
However , Writer has to show Ash like a dense & clueless boy without showing him like an idiot !
Sometime dense & clueless personality make a character Cool so writer must try that !
Plus , Ash should always smile in his Battle .
Not a Sarcastic smile ! But A warm , Gentle & innocent smile !
Ash should keep a warm smile no matter how tough the battle may be ! He should keep smiling like he's having fun & he doesn't care about the outcome of Battle !
I hope the writer realize that !
By the way ,
Was the Battle in DP & BW written by the same person ???
Well , It because I was watching some old DP battle & I realize that their something off in BW Battle
Like those were written by 2 different people !
Another exception from Writer : Writer's should make time to check out Bulbagarden Anime Section page to see what we think about the Show & also keep a connection with Mod's to know about most people opinion about the Anime !

At this point I predict Ash will continue losing leagues, and be sent off to a new region. Expecting closure for him is starting to seem pointless.

The fact that Ash has been reset should indicate he's not leaving anytime soon.

I would never complain if they air those Team Plasma episodes they put on hold for months.... as for now, I don't expect anything from them, but I do with they would use more of the game features. And I would like them NOT to use the new characters of B2W2, but stick with the current trio - Ash, Cilan, Iris. Although stupid, they're doing wonderfully - and the show's looking good. I don't want the new girl from B2W2 to take Iris' spot ... maybe it's because I got used to Iris, but I'm fond of her.

The only thing im expecting, or more appropriate would be to say wishing is that writers start treating this show as continuity being consistent with character development(mainly Ash), acknowledging past regions and characters giving them some recognition with anime being treated as one entity.

I wish writers would stop with constant character replacing too which serves no purpose starting to be pointless. Instead of focusing more on one character building up on its story, they are rather introducing constantly new companions giving us fragment of half developed characters which leave unfinished despite having potential to offer more.

Argument how this is needed because it makes anime apparently fresh is bull, because plenty shows don't replace main cast keeping things fresh by doing new exciting things with already existing characters taking them forward.

Even when they replace cast like Bakugan or Inazuma Eleven go, they still bring back older companions making them relevant to anime again, re opening stories, developing them forward never stopping to exist.

Sad because when you think about it, each of them whether its case about Misty,Brock,May etc had untapped potential and unfinished things on which writers could expand and do much more.

I wish that at very least writers try out some new innovations like character rotation perhaps.
That way we would still get new characters ,but at same time fans would be given opportunity to see their favorite characters from past in action again, being updated, refreshed and developed more taking them in new directions.

I think it would be interesting to see for instance May developing new style as coordinator,do steps forward toward her goal and develop new pokemon and potential rivals.
It would be also interesting to see Misty being developed with many things being left unexplored.Like expanding on her goal of water master,do more with pokemon, reveal more about past and open potentially new subplots to enrich here story and do continuation.
Same with Max for example, seeing him getting first pokemon and starting out journey would be more than welcomed to see.

It would be certainly something new and fresh, being intriguing to see combination of older and new with favorites we used to like getting chance to shine too. Compared to get go rinse and repeat of what they have been delivering to us for past 6 years.

Thanks to their reluctance to try out different formula being too traditional which turned away many past viewers, we have show which contains inconsistent development of characters, almost non existent continuity, poor treatment of storyline and full bag of unfinished plots. Pity because if they took in account at least some of suggestions reaching toward different kind of demographics while keeping target audience, this anime would be much better than what we have now and ultimately more popular .

You're expecting FAR too much, 123. As well as things that will NEVER happen.

I don't think expecting that writers and anime improve in general is unreasonable expectation. There is always room for improvement, especially in anime like pokemon. And while im aware how some of things are unlikely to happen, we can't deny how sooner or later in order to maintain viewers interest and keep attracting people toward show writers and producers will have to try out different approach and change current direction in which things has been taken.

At very least i expect Ash character being better developed with writers already proving in past how they are perfectly capable of doing better job than what we got in BW. And more attention being given to past and previous characters which contributed to pokemon popularity , strengthening continuity in show adding for unexpected twist. It would certainly bring boost to ratings.

Maybe none of this will happen, but in that case it will mainly be because of writers laziness to try out something different rather than anything else.

Quite honestly I agree with 132. I fail to see how utterly impossible it would be for the writers to try this approach.
My expectations: they'll continue to screw up and not use good ideas to their full potential (or any potential) in favor of advertising video games & trading cards and pandering to small children
They might do this for a while longer, but eventually Pokemon will go downhill enough for them to realize they are falling behind in the market and they will hopefully have the wisdom necessary to try something with more quality. Its possible they could utilize old friends or even old Pokemon at some point, given there is some amount of demand for them and/or the writers run out of steam for constant new characters.

Not utterly impossible, but HIGHLY unlikely. Remember: telling a good story is secondary (maybe even thirdary) to advertising other parts of the franchise (sadly :-( )

Oh, I'd really like it if that happened. Heck, they kinda did that with DP and I'd love for them to do it again. (There are times I can almost see that sort of thing trying to break through the weird Kanto/Johto combo the series has become)

An episode which Kanto starters come together and kick some serious asses. I loved the ones they fought with Pyramid King Brandon.

I admit, I wouldn't mind having Ash win the league than maybe loose to an Eliet four member. That way it'd be a step up, slowly but surley but I don't want Ash to leave the series just maybe to get better. I don't mind Team Rocket leaving now, they are just boring now before they'd at least make you laugh but not even that now =/

I prefer the newest Pokemon version, Black/White and Best Wishes! I absolutely love where the story is going. Though, it is a bit difficult to predict what will happen in the next premiers. Which is exactly what I like. In the past, Pokemon was redundant and had a very simple flavor. It got old. They're finally switching stuff up. Team Rocket is more BadAss and they added the Shadow Triad and N to the games. I'm looking forward to the next premiers. I sense success in these next games for sure.

Although, I do expect more of the anime. I don't like how Dawn is reappearing for cameo. Also, I am expecting a more modern anime-style and more backstory/romance/realistic situations etc.
