What are your "Gym Leaders with overrated difficulties"? What about underrated?

Have you ever had a moment where you actually managed to safely defeat a gym leader without being too clobbered in the process? Yet you found yourself surprised with people ranting about how difficult that particular Gym Leader was? What about Gym Leaders that everyone dismissed as too easy, yet you actually had troubles with it?

In starting this:

Overrated:
Whitney's Miltank. Okay, she wasn't really easy either, but I managed to safely defeat that Miltank without any of my boys and girls fainting, and that was on all of my runthroughs. On my first runthrough, Miltank didn't use Attract at all for some reason - although even if she did, there was no point anyway, due to my Graveler being female. And I don't remember if I used the in-game trade female Machop on my very first try... (I did so in my second runthrough.) Her rollout was a bit of a nasty surprise, but even that failed to take out either of my Pokémon.

Underrated:
Maybe this is not underrated, but given that people think the Kalos Gym Leaders are easy, I'll have to put this here.
Grant's was an example of "really tempting to not do any homework, but is actually required if you don't want any screw-ups". Playing Pokémon for the first time in ten years, I learnt the hard way that: a) Type advantages doesn't guarantee a victory when you don't have the stats/movesets to back them up; and b) There will always be new combinations of dual-typings to screw you over. (The last two game that I played were Crystal (GSC) and Red (RBY).) The four Pokémon that I intended to use were Bulbasaur, Froakie, Riolu, and (in-game trade) Steelix. Because I didn't check any game previews or anything, I didn't know of the double typings that I'll be up against. This meant that Bulbasaur, Froakie, and Riolu ended up of being no use, since Bulbasaur ended up being type-disadvantaged, and Froakie and Riolu were frail defensively. And their "super-effective attacks weren't of much help. (Of course, it did not help that I kept most of my Pokémon unevolved, which of the difficulties in doing that I found out only retrospectively. The reason for this is because I wanted my Pokémon to learn moves faster.) If it was not for Steelix and her better attack/defense stats, (and better type-advantages against Amaura) then I might have lost that battle. I didn't overlevel any of the aformentioned four Pokemon.

Thinking about it now, it probably could have been easy, but at the time, it certainly did make me stop laughing at Rock-type Pokémon and their numerous type weaknesses.

So, let's start that rant-fest shall we? :naughty:

Whitney. I had little trouble beating her in Silver and Crystal and only a couple of false starts in SoulSilver. It was my Beedrill that took her down and I owe a lot to that little bug. I'm going to send him over to X eventually, but I need to get him some ribbons first.

Underrated:

Clay. That Excadrill of his can be lethal if it manages to pop off a Hone Claws. I wasn't expecting that at all and he pretty much wiped the floor with most of my team. It took me nearly twenty minutes and a lot of Revives to secure a win over him; had I been doing a Nuzlocke I would have been massively screwed. The next time I went up against him, I was better prepared and brought a bulky little Golett who toughed it out and beat him.

Overrated: Elesa. Her two Emolga aren't nearly as troublesome as people claim them to be.

Underrated: Juan. His Kingdra is the devil.

Overrated: Pretty much every Gym Leader in Hoenn, they are a joke with pokemon with terrible movesets and pretty much everybody saying they are hard just sucked ass at Pokemon back then, hopefully this will be fixed in OR/AS.

Underrated: None.

Yes, I nearly got my ass handed over by that monster too! The only reason why I won with half my team surviving was my Tirtouga's Quick Claw kicking in and using Scald for the KO. No one else in my rotation can outspeed and KO him.

Can I ask you how you managed to beat her?

Overrated: I'm gonna say Whitney. I have to admit she wiped the floor of me several times when I was a newb, but after a couple replays of SoulSilver, I pretty much had her down and I easily beat her. That Attract is deadly though...

Underrated: Korrina from Kalos. Although most of her team wasn't too difficult, her Hawlucha really took me by surprise (probably because I had one). That Hawlucha outsped mine easy, and I had to EV train mine because my team was really weak against Flying types at the time. I finally brought her down after 5-6 tries.

Viola is pretty much the only underrated Leader. The first time I played through Y I started with a Froakie and had so much trouble against her.
