(Or, screw both those names and let's just call her "Ellen", as if she made an appearance in the anime.)
To start with, that girl is my favorite character in the entire Pokemon franchise. Not just because of the notorious butt-patting incident from the manga (which I do like, btw).
Actually, it was because when I first met the person whom I now communicate the most with online, the reason he first contacted me was to discuss some fanfic request that I hosted on AdultFanFiction.net and he took up. His idea for the request was to create a Pokemon fanfic where the girl (whom he dubbed Ellen) would become cursed; any further details about that potential fic, though, can be discussed another time.
So anyway, seeing as this girl is my favorite character, and while I did enjoy (technically) playing as her in Pokemon LeafGreen, it sure sucks that I was never able to play as the version of her that wears a cute black dress instead of that drab outfit that she was given for the games. I mean, honestly, even though they are the same character, they might as well be two different characters entirely. I can accept that Nintendo redesigned her because Viz owned the rights to her original design, but then Viz has the balls to pull a cheap-ass stunt and redesign her to be consistent with the games (by having Silver buy her some new clothes as a present, which still doesn't even explain why her hair is also completely different). And, just to mock us even further, Nintendo decides to redesign the female lead of GSC just because they already f**ked around with the girl that could have been introduced in RBY. At first, I thought "Soul" actually was going to be a separate character from Kris/Crystal/Marina, but in any case, I wouldn't have any problem with this new(?) girl character that's due to appear in HGSS if she actually is a different person entirely (which could only be proven by the manga or by an in-anime cameo).
Now, the aforementioned butt-patting scene notwithstanding, I'm really not a fan of the Pokemon Special Manga to begin with. However, something that makes me even less interested in it is, at the end of the FRLG arc, Blue (along with four other trainers) are turned into stone. I was shocked half to death when I found out about that on Wikipedia, and I am grateful that they are de-petrified at the end of the Emerald arc.
If there are any Pokemon ROM hacks that would enable me to play as "Blue" instead of as "Leaf", I'd gladly play them. Of course, I'd prefer it at least be a hack of Gold, Silver, or Crystal, if not any other game, and that it take place in Kanto. However, even if it were a hack of Red, Blue, or Yellow, I'd still be likely to give it a try.
However, the fact is, there aren't any such hacks, but I am planning a fanfiction equivalent to the games. I should probably save for another thread (or post, if anyone would request), but needless to say, she *will* be clad in her manga outfit most of the time. Even when (not if) that outfit gets destroyed later on, instead of the sucky outfit that she was given for FRLG, she will wear a blue sundress with a heart-shaped low cut, with a pair of flip-flops to boot, and her hair will be left entirely as it is.
Well, that's all my thoughts for this post. I sure wish I had any pics to show you of how I'd redesign her, but I am glad to at least have all of this off my chest now.
