What are your thoughts about if they created a live-action Pokémon movie?

What are your thoughts about it. Think about how they did Dragon Ball. They changed so much. Would they change so much too.

Ah, so we've jumped one up from the CG movie idea. Well, pokemon outside of anime would look weird in my opinion. Frankly, they could make it look cool, but then I suppose that the movie would get PG for violence or possibly PG-13 for intense violence. Which would also open up channels for ships and whatnot, as well as some other elements fans want.

So, unless some producer is willing to gamble the eel farm, I doubt that an live-action pokemon movie would happen. Though, now I have this mental image of a scyther standing on a road in a forest in the pouring rain. I have no idea why.

Yea, but think about how much money it would take, because don't they have to buy the rights or something like that?

I think this has been discussed on both fronts: CGI and Live-action.

On the surface it sounds like a great idea...Transformers, the Marvel Comics...they all made the jump to the big-screen, but I don't think Pokemon would really work in live-action.

Transformers was able to make a smooth transition from animation to real-life because transformers were machine-like and easy to be made into live-action machines. Heck, visually transformers is a lot better in real life.

But Pokemon is a different situation altogether. Many Pokemon are only recognizable because of their quirky, cartoonish nature. Pikachu just isn't Pikachu if it isn't animated.

In real life, Pikachu would lose that trademark look and would appear forced.

They could try to make them look more animated using CGI, but that would look stupid too IMO. Plus all those special effects as well as buying the rights from Nintendo or whomever would cost a lot of money...and I don't know if the following for Pokemon is so big anymore that the live-action adaptation would be a boxoffice hit.

They would have to change a lot. The cartoons are very tame relative to their subject matter, but in reality the kind of material Pokémon covers could not be portrayed in a believable fashion with actors and realistic CGI unless things get much grittier. Plus they would need to significantly shrink the suspension of disbelief, by explaining what they can, and changing some of the more ridiculous things.

There's no reason they couldn't effectively make a live action movie, but there are plenty of reasons they wouldn't, first and foremost being that the amount of effort required to seem even remotely natural is not worth the low demand for such a movie.

Money aside however, I think that the idea does have some merit. I mean, yes people wouldn't like seeing pikachu in a real-life setting, but I think that if the right director were in charge, and the script was good, and the animations were top-notch, then I think even the most loyal of fans would find little to complain about. Yes, I did say in my earlier post it's unlikely, but I've thought a bit more about it (and that scyther in the rain is still in my head) and I think that something like this could happen. There are a lot of variables (money) which would probably shut down the idea before it began, but still...

just try to imagine something like that. It's not pokemon butchered, it's pokemon from the point of view of the trainers in game. This would probably be how they would see it.

I wish all these live action adaptations would stop. I'm so sick of everyone looking down on animation as some second rate medium.

As for the topic, live action Pokemon just wouldn't work. The show is too cartoony for it to translate. I just can't picture them accurately pulling off the Rocket-Dan mottos.

Not to mention the amount of Pokémon and the size of them..... take Wailord or Groudon for example, they'd have to use a far camera shot to fit them in a scene.

groudon is only 11' tall. That's not even as tall as Rubeus Hagrid. The anime has a bad habit of portraying pokemon beyond their normal size. Though, I'll admit, the games do give the impression they are larger.

Exactly. I agree with Rocket Girl...lots of the shows trademark aspects are too 'cartoony' and childish to pull off in a good way in real-life.

Even the aspect of throwing a Poke-ball and capturing an animal/pokemon inside would look a little silly if done by live-action actors. It might not by reading it in text, but seriously visualize that image in the context of a gritty, action movie. Kind of silly.

As an anime, however, I love it. And Pokemon is just fine as an anime. I wouldn't mind a large motion picture being done with Pokemon (still anime) but a full-length, more adult themed movie.

More likely than the live-action one, but still unlikely. Nintendo probably wouldn't want to go that route with a concept that has been in anime as a kid show.

I take it back. A live action Pokemon movie would great if it was a parody movie. That was hilarious.

Burn it. Burn it with fire and never look back. It would fail so hard the sun would die out.

Yes! Yes! A million times yes! It's as if people have forgotten that we already have eleven actual movies that we can go back to at any time and watch.

I never understood the "kick" people got out of watching their favorite cartoon being acted out in live action. Especially with a show like Pokemon. I just...I just can't see what the appeal would be.

Actual humans dressing as may or misty in such outlandish clothing would make the actress just plain awesome. Or a dawn actress. Yeah that is the only appeal I can see. A real life looking Pikachu would be creepy like scooby doo.

I think it will work if it's not based on the anime. Although I am kinda skeptical that it will work, and be liked.
