There are two battle styles: Shift and Set. According to the new Bulbapedia article for it:

  • Shift allows you to switch in Pokemon when the opponent switches due to fainting.
  • Set does not allow this.

Which one do you use, and why?

Both in different situations.
Shift if I fight random people and Set if its a Rival or Champ battle so their next pokemon will suprise me.

Set usually since its faster, less buttons to press, and is more like a real battle and gets you used to thinking that way. I avoid items in battle as well for the same reason (with the rare exception of an X-Accuracy - stupid evasion uppers).

I use set in hopes that if I eventually get wi-fi, I can be used to having to switch when a pokemon uses its move. That and I like a good challenge.

Definitely "set". It provides more of a challenge, and battles go faster that way.

I like Shift it gives you the opportunity to see whats coming up so you best prepare for that situation

I did not know much about Options section until about one or two weeks before. When I heard about battle styles, I decided to go with Shift, because that is more easy.

Always shift. I like to keep my Pokemon around the same levels, so it's easier to rotate out should one of my Pokemon level while in battle, then I can shift without forfeiting my turn to attack.

Shift. Let's not make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Shift. It makes me feel bad, but I don't really care. I don't battle much on Wi-fi and I absolutely hate the Frontier, so Set never really applies to me.

I just use shift. I never even knew what Shift and Set meant until about a week ago.

I mainly use Shift because it's easier.
