I recently received an infraction for mini-modding, because of this post.

My sole intention was to be helpful. As far as I know, posts like these were always allowed as far the rules go. I'm just downright confused as to what constitutes as mini-modding, and just being helpful.

Normal user doing a moderators job. That's mini-modding.

Honestly dude, just report threads.

I reported the thread after I was told it was okay to. I was under the impression before it was mainly used for reporting what is inexplicably flaming and spam.

I still don't understand what's the line between being helpful and mini-modding. From what the rules make it to seem, I was not mini-modding.

Nope if you think that someone is breaking a rule or it needs a moderator to help out(like close a thread because another one exists) then just report it. If you try to take matters into your own hands...well you already know what happens.

We can't discuss infractions in public. You have to talk to the mod who gave it to you in private.

It is not the regular user's job to direct people to the proper threads if a duplicate appear or any other such situation. That's our job.

per the rules, linking to a thread when you should have and could have reported it is mini-modding.

Him saying "there is a thread here" doesn't do ANYTHING helpful, unlike if he actually reported it.

I fail to see why. It's the same information, just given by two different people.

I don't see how just telling somebody about a rule is assuming a moderator's job. By banning this, you're making it look like the moderators are the only bunch that actually give a damn about them.

Personally, I see mini-modding being something like a user going up to another user and saying, "you can get infracted for this rule, a mod is going to chase you down," by actually referencing the moderator's power.

I'm not discussing this specific infraction now, just the rule in general.

shouldn't this rule apply to the contest hall too? grnmarvl13 said that rule only applies to the pokémon world forum, but does it apply to its sub-forums too?

I didn't know if that rule would apply, but considering the Contest Hall's only purpose is so Pokemon World isn't flooded with all the comparison threads, one would think it would.

For the record, I did report the thread thereafter. I had previously asked GrnMarvl whether I should report them or not, and he answered me a couple of hours later.

That being said, if another user has already pointed out the existence of another thread, I don't think the moderators really need to make another post just to reiterate the rule and say that they locked the thread.

If someone posts a link, which they shouldn't, then I normally just lock it.

Let us do our jobs. All it takes it one report. It's easier to do that linking.

We announce that we lock or move a thread as a courtesy to the other mods. Especially if it's a higher mod in someone else's section.

Wait...Just to clear things out:

1) Is telling others that their actions are against the rules, count as mini-modding?

2) When are the appropriate times to report threads you see a problem with? (EG. Same concept as another thread, getting spammy, flames etc)

3) Continuing from 3, would it count as an infraction if a person posts in the thread, just to say that it was getting off topic?

And everything in between. I find it hard to tell the difference between mini-modding, and trying to be helpful

I'd always thought the report button was for explicit posts.

No, the report button is for reporting a user if they, to you, have broken a rule.

Edit: Also,I think Archaic/Evkl or some other Admin made a thread about mini modding.

...You can't possibly report..Lets say...40 posts for spam, can you?

Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
