The little mail icon next to a thread is different depending on whether it's "hot" or not. It also changes depending on whether it has new posts or not, whether it's closed or not, and whether one has posted in it or not.

I had thought that whether a thread was hot or not would depend on when it had last been posted in, but then I noticed that some hot threads were older than some not hot threads so this cannot be the case.

So, what determines whether a thread is "hot" or not?

Thanks in advance.

It's if a post has 10 posts or more in a day I think.

It depends on the number of replies it has. The more replies it is, the more popular or "hot" it is.

More than 20 replies or 200 views. Where'd I get this from? Go into any forum. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. There, you'll see what all of the little icons are (new posts, no new posts, hot thread with new posts, etc.). Hover your mouse's pointer over any of the icons, and you'll get a short explanation (though new posts and no new posts just give you "New posts" and "No new posts", like what's written next to their icons).

Thank you. I can't believe I didn't notice that. I am ashamed.

Please note: The thread is from 17 years ago.
Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
