Me:

1. Think that Japan is just like America, but better.
2. Bash people and call them racists when they point out that yes, Japan does have its flaws.
3. Harass non-anime fans and give the rest of us a bad name.
4. Throw a temper tantrum or plug their ears and sing "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!" when encountered with a canon fact or fact about Japan that they don't like.
5. Try to convince people that bad dubs are as good as the originals.
6. Bash good dubs for no other reason than the fact that they are dubs.
7. Act like spoiled brats with entitlement complexes when it comes to anime companies and artists/authors/producers.
8. Think that they know everything there is to know about Japanese culture because they are a so-called anime "expert."

* "omg kawaii! ^_____^"
* Pocky obsession
* "glomping"
* flaunting otaku status like it is something to be proud of

1.Claiming to know everything about Japan only because they know words like "Kawaii"
2.Makes fun of other styled artists because they're style isn't similar to their favorite anime-styled artist.
3.Constantly brings a certain anime into a conversation.
4.Is completely oblivious to the fact that Japan, like every other country, isn't perfect.
5.Always trying to "claim" their favorite anime characters saying their, the characters #1 fan(anime fangirls/fanboys).And whenever someone else says their the number one fan, they start arguing about it.

I'll edit this post when I think of more stuff.

The first post pretty much sums up. Although one thing that annoys me is when they learn Japanese or go to Japan, for anime related reasons or something. There's a lot more to Japan than video games and anime.

Oh and they also feel that fan subs are infinitely superior to dubs or official subs, despite the dub actually being good. I thought the dubbing work for Full Metal Alchemist and Paranoia Agent were superb (so much so on PA, that I don't even want to watch it in Japanese). I ran across a dual audio version of Paranoia Agent with subs, and needless to say, the dub was just as accurate as the sub.

But then again, any anime they make reference to for calling the dubs crappy is mainstream anime, which quite frankly don't have the most impressive line up of VA's.

When they make posts with the apparntly singular intention of causing tension/arguments....

Everything said so far. >_>

The world needs more sensible animé fans, no?

Fascination with female characters. Panties and what not. They're fictional, stop obsessing over them like they're real. It just makes you look creepy. >_>

Almost everything above sums up what annoys me with anime and, in the same sense, sci-fi/comic fanatics do that really annoy me. People may not realize it, but these people are almost the same. They live their lives completely devout to their favorite series and treat it like they have to be this way, otherwise their not real fans. It takes all the fun out of being a fan of any series, anime or not.

Usually I'm a pretty tolerant person so most of those things don't annoy me. I think some of the things they do like glomping, enthusiasm are kind of weird, but that's about it. (I don't think I'd ever show that I think it's weird)

Um, I know! I'm a little bit annoyed by fangirls that try to turn every male character gay. I mean, it's funny at first but it gets annoying real quickly (especially because I don't do that with female characters, and haven't seen much of males doing it in general). I know fangirls can argue that it goes the otherway, but I've at least not seen it, so it seems like women are more vocal in it. I'm not complaining about them making fanservicey guy pictures, just the fake gay shipping.

I mean, it gets especially weird to see Yugi and Yami shipping, it's either impossible or highly disturbing how that can even happen.

1. Think that Japan is just like America, but better.
2. Bash people and call them racists when they point out that yes, Japan does have its flaws.

Those attitudes I prefer as I've seen more polar opposites which I find more annoying. I don't usually give reactions towards anything but prejudice (of even somewhat silly kinds like in inanimate objects and movies).

From the opposite side of fandom, I find that Foreign aspect of Japan to be really annoying. I mean, it's no longer the 30s, it shouldn't be some big adventure to just to go get sushi. :p (It sounds silly, but sometimes you hear people talk (or TV and radio) like the people aren't Human or it's a 3rd world country)

Also, like what was said about the second, it's definitely not what you meant, but I've heard people make pretty bad assumptions about Japan too, which can also annoy me at times (when it's based off of old stereotypes).

Then sometimes I get annoyed when people hate a cartoon or product because it's Japanese. Without even seeing it they want to refuse acknowledging the work still using old/stupid claims to say they don't like it (like saying the frame rate is horrible when in reality, a lot of old cartoons had bad frame rates regardless of where they were made)

So I'd prefer those attitudes than the polar opposite ones. Those I find more annoying.

I will say, now that I think about it, there is one thing that Anime "Otakus" do that can get on my nerve: Have a snooty attitude with liking a series. I remember when I use to read the reviews on ANN for comics, the reviewer had an obvious bias towards genres they aren't use to, like girls comics and such, and that just annoys me.

One example is I don't know how they can give Yakitate!! Japan an "A" rating and then mark down another series to a C for being unoriginal. Yakitate!! Japan is charming (I like cooking, shounen, and sports comics) but I can admit its a pretty unoriginal. Maybe it's because they understand the bread puns... I don't know, but it's pretty clichéic with it's tournaments and exaggerating the descriptions of the food product. I just find that snootiness annoying at times, but especially if it's by a "professional critic".

------------------

OH! I remember something! It kind of annoys me when otakus listen only to Anime music or reference one of my favorite groups by some anime song they may have done! I just think, "You know, they've done other things too". It's an unfair attitude, I know (for some people, anime music is all they have for getting into japanese music), but it's more of a pet peeve. I'm less forgiving to people that listen to old, 10 year old songs religiously too, like Ranma or Dragonball or something. Yeah I have nostalgic attitudes towards dragonball music too, and could probably sing "Cha-la head cha-la" at a karaoke bar, but it's not in my ipod! :p

So many things that annoy me:

1. Bashing America while proclaiming Japan to be the best nation ever.
2. The constant random use of Japanese words because they sound "cooler."
3. In the vein of #1, but instantly every American cartoon or comic to be worse than every anime or manga based solely on the fact that they're not Japanese. Throw in music as well. Especially when they only listen to anime music and J-pop/rock. At least throw in some classic Japanese music.
4. The general disillusionment that intense anime/manga fans get. I.e., if the dub voices aren't the EXACT tone and pitch of the original. Or if the background music is SLIGHTLY altered. Or a word is removed/slightly mistranslated. I get the BIG mistakes being issues, but so many things get blown so far out of proportion.
5. Every character in every anime being paired with every other character in the same anime based on some random look/interaction. Just because they were in the same scene does NOT mean they have the hots for each other. And the fact that every one of these pairings has to have some cute little nickname. And the oddly intense debating that goes into them.
6. Learning Japanese solely to watch un-dubbed/un-subbed anime. It's like learning French in order to go to Smurfworld.

And I'm sure there are other things, but because of the things listed above, I try to distance myself from intense anime fans. Always best to avoid conflict.

Oi. That's one of my pet peeves as well!

I only have one major peeve when it comes to anime fans. (everything else on this list I agree with too but yeah)

The ones who listen to nothing but J-Pop and anime BGMs and proclaim that it's the best ever, and then bash American music for whatever reason.

I seriously want to tie them up in a basement and blast Scandinavian death metal and/or cybergrind in their face for a couple days.

I can't post here without saying I used to be guilty of a few of these things myself, true.
But it was realizing how a number of people seem so engrossed by anime culture that I had to
reflect on my own actions to see where it was getting me.

Yes I was quite fanatical when I first learned about anime, but it got to be
too much and now the very things I used to enjoy tend to irk me which are
very much the things that have been mentioned here.

[which I mostly keep to myself, but I guess if I'm free to vent here, then I may as well.]

I must say the number one problem I have with Anime society are Asians
denouncing their culture in order to claim they have some direct lineage
to the Japanese, thus zomgthey must be Japanese.

I hate it, really. Asian culture is beautiful, to each it's own fruitful history.

If you have heritage from Malaysia, China, Korea, the Philippines, etc. then please
say you're from there, NOT Japan. You have a lot to be proud of.
I'm not going to research that, but I know, it's there.

I myself was on the verge of doing the same when I began to background research into
the rather unique history that has distinguished Filipino culture from most other
Asian societies. [History being that Philippines had been more Western influenced than the other cultures on the Pacific Rim. etc. etc]

And many other societies have rich backgrounds too that distinguish them
from all the surrounding islands/countries. Being Asian does not make you
f**king Japanese.

The moral is, I made it a point not to diverge from who I am and where I've
come from. Of course, I'm not making it a point that I'm showing off to
everyone I'm around that I'm Filipino. It was that behavior of people who
'claimed' or flaunted Japanese linage that got me worked up in the first place.

I'm much less fanatical about anime today than I ever was, but I can still
enjoy it and that's pretty much the level to which it needs to be taken.
But it pains me most to see people not take any pride in their own
cultures anymore that they must detach themselves from it to be Japanese.
The truth is, the Japanese could really care less if you thought yourself
as one of their own. Shoot, Japanese put most Asian cultures down in the
past; just be glad they're a whole lot less aggressive today.

There's a lot that I hate about people like that.

1. Bashing the dubbers. I don't care how much you people hate 4kids, they made a decent dub for Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. 4kids ruined One Piece? So what!? Saying that Pokémon sucks because One Piece was ruined is NOT a legitamite reason! And honestly, I don't find One Piece that bad really.

2. Bashing music edits. I understand that changing the music can ruin the mood, but how does that make the anime in its entirety suck? Some edits actually are better than the originals.

3. Biased bashing. I don't give a fuck whether Dragonball Z is better than Yu-Gi-Oh! or if Naruto is better than Pokémon. If you like it, that's fine, just shut the fuck up. I don't want to even hear it. Saying that Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! are only for little kids just shows how immature you are.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
