Been curious about this lately. What do you, the fandom, consider to be an Event Pokemon? I'm sure most of us would agree that any Pokemon received from an Event constitutes an Event Pokemon. My question is about Pokemon that can be caught in-game, but can only be (legitimately) reached by using an item obtained at an event, such as the Member Pass or the Azure Flute, or Pokemon like the Pt. Regis and Phione that can only be obtained when you have another Event Pokemon in your party.

Re: What do you consider to be an "Event" Pokemon?

A Pokemon you get in an event, or a pokemon you get because of an event, or a pokemon you can only get from a pokemon you got in an event. If an event causes it, it's an event pokemon...

Re: What do you consider to be an "Event" Pokemon?

A Pokemon that is obtained as a result of attending a Nintendo event/ wifi event. (Items that unlock them count as the item results in the unlocking of the Pokemon)

Re: What do you consider to be an "Event" Pokemon?

To me, an event Pokemon is one obtained from the event itself or a certain item obtained from that event.

When I read the pole, I thought of the notch eared pichu, which I believe to be an event pokemon, but fits the second criteria. On the other hand, Phione isnt really an event pokemon because it can be gotten infinite # of times.

One which I'll never have
Its one that is obtained through an event.

Ah, but in order to get it that infinite number of times, you need to have Manaphy, which can only be received via an event.

I would also say:

  • What about Pokemon that don't have a literal Nintendo event but are obtained through another game such as Ranger?
  • What about Pokemon that used to be only available as part of an event but are now available through other means such as Mew?

Re: What do you consider to be an "Event" Pokemon?

Knew I already made a thread about Event Pokemon.

What do you guys think about the Eon Duo? In every game that they're available, (RSE, HGSS) you can only capture one of them normally, and usually need an Event Exclusive Item to obtain the other one, usually with the only difference being that it's at a slightly higher level then it would be if you had captured it in the proper version. Would you qualify the ones that need the Event Item as an Event Pokemon, and by extension ask for or be willing to trade something more valuable for it in terms of trading?

i chose both the ones. obtained by items, are obviously Event Pokemon. The one like Spikey Ear Pichu and the Sinjoh ruins legends are also. i dont really conider the Ranger Manaphy an event pokemon, but I know there has been at least 1 Manaphy event at Toys R US. Ive also read several comments of people saying that Phione is not a legendary yet you can t get it unless you breed Manaphy with Ditto so i dont know. I consider Phione to be a novelty Pokemon.

The official HG/SS guide book clearly states that Phione isn't a Legendary, however it's also on the ban list for the Video Game Championships, so it's safe to say that it's considered to be an Event-Exclusive Pokemon. (Since the only way to obtain it is to breed a Ditto with a Manaphy, itself an Event Exclusive Pokemon.)

An event Pokemon could be a Pokemon found by an Event Item of Pokemon. Such as Arceus and the Azure Flute.

I would say an event pokemon could be obtained by an item or the event itself.

Thanks.

To be honest, I consider Pokemon that have been received by events are event Pokemon, not event items, except if they say 'Fateful Encounter' (like Fower Paradise Shaymin) in it's summary, I don't consider New Moon Darkrai to be an event even though to access it, you need an Event Item.

an event pokemon is any pokemon you can't get through normal play
(regigigas technically can be gotten through normal play people)

and btw OP your list needs to add "pokemon directly given to the player by an event (I.E. Jirachi)

An event pokemon is a pokemon that is obtainable thorough mystery gift.

Event pokemon do include the likes of Movie Regigas, and pikachu colored pichu, but that doesn't make them event exclusive pokemon.

Event exclusive pokemon are pokemon that can only be obtained thorough mystery gift.

Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Phione (via manaphy), Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus.

Like I said in the original post, I'm pretty sure that everyone would agree that a Pokemon received directly from an event is an Event Pokemon. This thread is Pokemon that can be captured in-game, but can only be reached by having a certain Event Pokemon or Event-Exclusive Item.
