What do you hate certain characters in the show as being described as?

Ash: I hate it when people say he's stupid, mainly. Come on, it's his show, leave him alone already.(He was built slow, that's just the way he is. And I love him for it.)

Max: I get pissed when people call him a know-it-all. If you were a know-it-all we wouldn't be pissed at you about it, would we? (well, we would sometimes...)

May: Getting called jailbait? Come on people, that's just your own sick mind. I know some ten-year-olds alot worse than that. And there's been worse characters in younger animes anyway.

Brock:
Who's the idiot who decided to call the guy a pedophile, anyway? I mean, he can be a little weird at times, but give the guy a break! Just because he travels with people younger than him doesn't make him a pedophile.

Richie: He is NOT worthless, he is awesome. And he is NOT an Ash clone.

And don't yell at me for saying this stuff, I'm allowed to have an opinion.

How can Brock be called like that? look at the girls he is usually chasing, 99% of them are older than him.

It bugs me when people refer to Jirarudan as a "Pokémon collector" when there's no evidence that he had any before the events of the second movie (which, technically, would make Moltres his starter. Epic). Nothing in his gallery suggests that he collected them.

But the one that just plain makes me mad is when people compare Cyrus to Hitler. Do these people have any sense of history? Can they think of no other historical dictators or anybody else at all? Cyrus is far more akin to the Japanese/Roman/Mayan emperors who declared themselves divine. I'd be more inclined to say Mayan given the whole "benevolent dictatorship...if you don't mind the live sacrifices part" thing.

My biggest one is the number of people (in my experience usually Team Rocket fans) that complain that Ash is a horrible, evil monster that abuses poor, innocent Team Rocket just because they attack him every few days.

A close second is the people that probably stopped watching in Johto and think Ash actively STOPS his Pokemon from evolving, and hence describe him as "an idiot" or "retarded' and other similar words.
I've even seen fanfiction where Pikachu is upset because he wants to be a Raichu and Ash won't let him evolve.

I loathe it when someone refers to Brock as "useless" or "dead weight". While I will agree that he's not as interesting compared to the other characters, he still makes himself extremely useful for practical reasons. Not everyone in the show has to be in the action. There's still has to be a balance.

If Brock wasn't there to do things, it would only get in the way of character development of the other characters.

Of course, when Brock actually does get the spotlight, people moan and bitch about it. Making them massive hypocrites. Which is it? Do you want Brock to just be in the background and fester, or do you want him to contribute? Because we all know he isn't leaving. Replacing him with another character isn't likely to work because we're very likely to just end up with another Tracey.

I hate it when people say that Musashi is a heartless bitch and completely evil. Something that Kojiro and Nyasu would hate her or be scared of her. She may be a selfish tsundere and a little silly but she's as good as Kojiro and Nyasu are! :p And calling Kojiro whiny and weak is such a cliché, he can own people too ya know.

I haven't seen any active members of the fandom do that since D/P started, at the very latest. Most Team Rocket fans are very twerp-friendly these days.

You know what I hate? When people act like Jessie is the most horrible person in the anime. I mean... hell, as a fan of hers I'll be the first to admit that she's a giant jerk sometimes. But when people ask why James and Meowth (mostly James, a lot of people with that attitude are James fangirls) put up with her, I just get pissed. They put up with her because she's their friend! These three have proved time and time again that they can't live without each other, that they love each other and would do anything for one another. They'd even sacrifice their lives for each other for crying out loud. Jessie's "bad behavior" is usually not even as bad as these people make it out to be.

I also get annoyed when people call Max an "annoying brat" and a "useless" character. I don't think that's true at all. For one thing, I don't find him annoying, though I suppose that's a matter of opinion. But he's definitely not useless. Just because he doesn't have Pokemon doesn't mean he's useless! His focus episodes were some of the best in AG, and really helped expend on the Pokemon world. It was interesting to see it from the point of view of someone too young to train his own Pokemon.

It seems like outside of pokemon-specific communities, most fans know little about pokemon after the original series, so they still think of Ash as being the newbie he was in Kanto, while talking about Gary like he's some kind of god.

Personally though, I never understand all the hate Tracey gets, and Max to a lesser extent.

Indeed, AG had the ability to to have episodes that could only be done with such a character. You can't find an equvilent before or after.

I knew there was something I missed in my last post.
I agree he doesn't get as much spotlight as the others, but he's incredibly useful (certainly in-universe). He's abit like the party healer in an RPG; he doesn't get to show off all the time, but without him they'd all be dead in a gutter somewhere.

It's still out there, but I haven't seen it much (if at all) here, and it's certainly considerably less common than it was.

I think this ties into alot of people that are "stuck in Kanto"--she was, as I recall, rather worse there, but still not as bad as some people act, and even there TR were obviously very close (aside from a couple of episodes...).

I've seen alot of fanfics--presumably written by actual fans--that have everyone act the exact same as in Kanto, or sometimes as exaggerated semi-caricatures of the their Kanto selves, despite taking place after or during AG or DP--Misty still insults Ash every opportunity she can (alot of those are, oddly enough, Pokeshipping fics), Pikachu still zaps people with the slightest provocation and likes Misty more, Ash still tries to Thundebolt every ground type he meets (sometimes they have him try to thunderbolt rock types that aren't ground and it fails, and then everyone laughs at him while I facepalm).

I noticed that too. Some people wrongly assume Ash still releases his Pokemon and never evolves his Pokemon.

Its like they think Ash is still the same today as he was back in Kanto/Orange.

Pretty much my opinion too.

Also, I hate when people are describing Tracey as bland or even when they dare to say Tracey sucks. He is far from being bland. He is very interesting character who has great character and is part of why I think Orange Islands was so funny saga.

I'm afraid I'm not a trainer young lady, I am merely... a collector.

It's in his dialogue.

URGH, COMPLETELY AGREED. One hundred percent.

Masato/Max was a very interesting way to see the world from the perspective of a non-trainer, yes. He really doesn't deserve all this bashing.

Yes, people who simply can't grasp how the characters have matured and changed bother me as well, especially if they just don't even acknowledge it at all. Fuu...

It's in his dialogue.

He most certainly is, but not a collector of POKEMON. ^^;;; Just a bunch of rare and valuable pretty things.

Considering the context of the line, it seems pretty odd for him to not be a Pokemon Collector.

Except the ship didn't even have one pokemon on it, why would you call him a pokemon collector? We saw loads of artifacts and items, but no pokemon. Not even an annoying starter he kept out of affection. ._.

Here I must agree. The closest Pokémon related thing he had was that Pokémon card at the end of the movie.

*nodnod* Yup, I hate how dub dialogue contributes to this too. Stop butchering up the script uh...not!PUSA! (I forgot the name of the company)

I also hate when James is described as Uber man, gleaming with testosterone. And Jessie as an emotionally frail little girl with a lot of "torment" building inside of her. I know that Jessie isn't a total bitch, but she ain't Virgin Mary either. And James isn't Chuck Norris, jeez. Stay a little in character, peeps. Anyways, This is from reading several Rocketshippy fanics in the old days.

Ash: I don't like it when he's portrayed as overly stupid, girly and (gawd, even more) NAIVE. Like this cute moe shotacon loliboy. ARRRGGHH. Small doses are okay occasionally, but not to the point of flandarization. Okay, I know that he is obviously naive, but not in all aspects of life (lol, mainly love XD). I guess childish is a better word for it. It just seems to me that he matured a lot since the series started it all, and some people don't heed note to that.

Paul: He doesn't seem too subject to this, but I hope he doesn't become the Draco in Leather Pants. I just want to think of him as a cold, ruthless little bastard, and that he's totally fine that way ^^ Of course, when people bash him solely on these characteristics, it gets a bit old :(

Brock: He's not useless, dead weight, nor expendable. And his character is actually interesting (just heavily neglected :( )

My number one pet peeve is when people call James gay. Ignoring the fact Kojiro isn't even close, PCI (that's the name you couldn't remember CommanderPigg) has obviously not picked up where 4Kids left off.

Next would be all the people that call Musashi a bitch and wonder why Kojiro and Nyasu still stick around. But others have already gone over that.

Something that CommanderPigg alluded to, I also hate how people judge the Rocket-dan based on how Team Rocket acts. People need to ignore the dub of them for the most part.

Then there's the twerp character bashing. Thinking Satoshi is stupid, Takeshi is useless, and all the horrible things people say about Haruka and especially Hikari (they are not Kasumi ripoffs).
