Kanto

+ Beautiful cities
+ Beautiful city/route music themes
+ Some of my favorite Gym Leaders reside there
+ Pokémon Trainer/Champion Leaf
+ Vileplume
- A lot of uninteresting or ugly Pokémon. Sure, the same is valid for every region, but Kanto is the one frequently said to have the best ones, for being "the original"
- Overrated as fuck
- Not so good battle themes
- Meh champion

Johto

+ Amazing battle themes
+ Dunsparce
+ Cool champion
+ Cool rival
- Extremely underdeveloped and small region, thanks to Game Freak's genial idea of putting two regions in one game
- Some really annoying city/route music themes

Hoenn

+ Trumpets
+ Best battle themes in the whole series
+ Trumpets
+ Beautiful and unique cities, also the whole region looked and felt very fresh after Kanto and Johto
+ Trumpets
+ Eccentric and less "safe" Pokémon designs, when compared to the previous regions
+ Trumpets
+ Mawile
+ Trumpets
+ Battle Frontier <3
- Shitty rivals
- Extremely bland Gym Leaders and Elite Four
- Too many water routes
- Fucking HMs are required everywhere and everytime
- Too many new Pokémon, 100 would have been fine

Sinnoh

+ The best city/route music themes in the whole series
+ Best Gym Leaders and Elite Four since Kanto
+ Best champion to ever grace this series
+ Best pre-Generation V evil team
+ Drums
+ Lots of evolutions for older Pokémon
+- The battle themes, with a few exceptions, weren't as good as the ones from Hoenn and Johto
- Caves, caves everywhere
- Too many legendaries
- D/P save times were soooooooooooooo slow, thank Arceus it was fixed in Platinum
- 30fps
- Slow battles :(

Unova

+ The region, like Hoenn, felt very unique and fresh
+ Game Freak was taking risks and trying new things and I appreciate that
+ The best Gym Leaders since Kanto, both champions were great too
+ Grimsley
+ Stunfisk
+ Team Plasma
+ Best rivals! Cheren and Bianca <3
+ Absolutely amazing battle themes, I still listen to them frequently, 4 years after the release of the first Gen V games
- TOO MANY NEW POKÉMON. 150? Are you shitting on me, Game Freak?
- No older Pokémon available in B/W. Fuck that noise.
- Not so good route/city music themes
- Too many legendaries... again

Kalos

+ FEWER NEW POKÉMON. YES, IN CAPS, BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THAT.
+ Goddamn the route/city music themes were amazing
+ Lots of cute new Pokémon
+ Mega Evolutions
+ Fairy-type
+ 3D models over sprites
+ Team Flare is the best looking team ever. Seriously.
+ Kalos' Power Plant music theme is so good, that it deserves its own mention
- Shitty rivals
- Meh champion
- The game runs like shit, the framerate is all over the place, specially with the 3D effect on
- The battle themes are the worst so far
- Game Freak is probably going to add even more new Pokémon in the third version to completely ruin the Pokémon series
- Please, don't do that, Game Freak
- I am serious.

Kanto:

Like
-Koga
-Blaine
-Bill
-Awesome evil leader who's also the Gym Leader of Viridian City.
-Cool gym leaders.

Dislike

-No real culture in comparison to the other regions.
-Bland Pokedex
-Boring bad guys
-Teachy TV guy

Johto:

Like
-Awesome culture
-Lyra (I wish I had a girlfriend like Lyra. Well actually I wish I just had a girlfriend.)
-Ethan is equally cool
-Non-linear
-Great set of Gym leaders (with a few exceptions of course)
-Lots of awesome Pokemon
-Great music (At least in HGSS)
-Each town/city has a unique feel.
-Youngster Joey
-Koga is in the Elite Four.
-Has a very "old world" feel. Sort of a mix of Meiji Era Japan and Feudal Japan. Yeah I know nothing about Japan but still that's what it reminds me of.
-Fascinating history.
-All three starters are cool.

Dislike
-Team Rocket's motivations are even dumber than in RB/FRLG
-Team Rocket
-Introduces a ton of cool Pokemon but barely features any of them.
-Whitney was laughably easy. Maybe it's because I never played the games as a kid but her Miltank wasn't all that hard. I don't know if she was tougher in GSC though.
-Chikorita is an awesome starter that has no use in it's own freaking region.
-Some of the Gym leaders are completely forgettable. Like seriously the Fighting guy isn't the slightest bit memorable.
-Professor Elm has zero involvement in the Johto games' plots

Hoenn

Like
-Terrific design.
-Lots of awesome Pokemon.
-Juan
-Team Magma/Aqua have great uniforms
-Dive
-Lots of water
-Tons of cool towns
-Contests
-Two cool Champions
-Great legendaries

Dislike
-Boring player characters
-Wally
-Distribution of Pokemon among characters
-No real history of the region or complex myths
-The plot was dumb
-Professor Birch is nothing but a freaking wimp. He can't get past a freaking Zigzagoon.
- Several of the the Elite four use multiples of the same Pokemon.

Sinnoh
-Great music
-Three good starters
-Team Galactic
-Distortion World
-Snowpoint City
-Crasher Wake and Volkner are actually cool characters
-The Legendaries are pretty decent (except for the hideous monstrosity that is Palkia.)
-Good new Pokemon
-Cynthia.
-Bug type Elite Four member.
-Complex history and myths

Dislike

-Boring gym leaders except for Crasher Wake and Volkner
-Nothing particularly exciting about the region. Sinnoh definitely feels like Game Freak was tired or running out of steam.
-Distribution of types is quite poor. Very few Fire types and too many water types.
-The Pikachu clone is the worst yet.
-Region design
-The contests
-The Elite Four hardly use any new Pokemon
-The Safari Zone

Unova

Like
- The Gym leaders actually get involved in the story.
-Forced people to use new Pokemon.
-Lots of great themes.
-Lots of good new Pokemon
-Little reliance on HM's
-BW2's design was terrific
-The Elite Four can be challenged in any order
-Two great Victory Road's

Dislikes

-Extremely linear
-No Elite Four in the PWT
-Only two of the Elite Four are difficult.
-Way too many legendaries.
-The legendaries are awful. The only one I liked was Zekrom.
-The whole surprise reveal at the end of BW's plot isn't surprising at all.
-The regional bird is the worst yet.
-Daycare in BW2 wasn't accessible until Post-game

Kalos

-Glorious 3D.
-Two great box legendaries and neither of them are dragons.
-The Fairy type is a great addition to the series
-Lots of great music
-Snowbelle City
-Nice theme to the region
-The regional Professor actually does stuff

Dislikes

-The camera in Lumiose City
-The PokeDex is way too big.
-Too small of a region.
-You're never really far from a Pokemon center. Unlike the other games, Kalos's routes aren't very far each town.
-The Gym Leaders have almost no personality at all. Only Wulfric and Korrina do stuff.
-Lysandre's motivations are too close to Cyrus'
-Heavy focus on Gen I Pokemon rather than new ones. Diantha especially is severely weak to Steel.
-The Elite Four/Champion are a total joke
-The Fairy type is too powerful. It really needs one more weakness. Bug would be nice.
-Team Flare doesn't seem to be much of a threat. Unlike with the other teams, you hardly encounter them. In fact it's not even until after your first badge do you even meet them.

Hoenn
- Fucking HMs are required everywhere and everytime
This is way too true of Sinnoh as well.

]Sinnoh
-The Legendaries are pretty decent (except for the hideous monstrosity that is Palkia.)
The Lake trio SUCK BALLS (not in the good way) for their bland designs/limited competitive use.

I pretty much agree with everything mentioned so far, a few to add are:

Jasmine's Steelix and Clair's Kingdra. WAY worse than Whitney's Miltank.

I actually liked Unova's linear map. Except the entralink thing, i have never worked out how to use that. It's way more complicated than it needed to be.

Gens 3,4&5. TOO MANY LEGENDARIES. Do these tiny regions need 10+ legendaries EACH??

Kanto
+
The original region
Great Pokedex
Zapdos
TPP

-
Either do FireRed/LeafGreen, or it's black and white/silly colours
Pikachu in Yellow as a starter has to be ignored for the first gym.
Not enough of a post-Elite Four storyline, so nothing for Mewtwo to do.

Johto
+
Interesting regional differences (Mountains)
Linked to another region.
Roaming Pokemon
Breeding Daycare
Times of day.

-
Pokedex. The starters were crap. In General, Gen 2 was a bad generation (TBH, quite a few like the Natu, Sneasel, Chinchou and Slugma lines, I always thought they were Gen 3, despite having played Gold a few times)
Legendaries were a bit poor.
Whitney's crying. I spent hours trundling around unable to get past Sudowoodo because she didn't give me a badge.

Hoenn
+
Tropical theme
Looked awesome everywhere
Best Pokedex
Two opposing teams, unlike anywhere else.
Great main legendaries
Challenging task to get the Regi guys.
Massive selection of berries
Double Battles
Salamence
Shedinja's and its awesome ability

-
Eastern Water Routes, annoyingly easy to get lost in.
Wally
Acro bike or Mach bike
Contests and Pokeblocks

Sinnoh
+
Great storyline
The step-up graphically between GBA and DS
New Eeveelution methods
Teaming up with people (Riley eg)
Big post-Elite Four storyline
Vespiquen and Attack Order

-
Can't get Super Rod until after the Elite-Four
Navigating Mount Coronet (nothing wrong with it, I just didn't like it)
Iron Island
Still hadn't got rid of Contests and Poffins
Dialga and Palkia were a bit crap

Unova (Bearing in mind I am still doing Black for the first time, so this is based on the Black version, not Black 2)
+
N and his story
Loads of atmospheric stuff that was impossible in early games, such as the aeroplanes in Mistralton city
Crazy Pokemon like the Klink and Litwick lines.
The creators playing around with Bridges and spiral staircases.
Choosing the order you take on the Elite Four.

-
The first gym is stupid
Elemental Monkeys
Lack of branched routes. There are two or 3 places only where you reach a T-Junction effectively. All other towns are in one end, out the other.
The sudden, massive jump in levels of trainers Pokemon after N's Castle.
The Unova Pokedex, with no Pokemon from previous generations originally is a brave, and ultimately stupid move.

Kalos
I cannot comment as I haven't played X or Y.

How I rate them.

Hoenn>Sinnoh>Kanto>Unova>Johto

Kanto
+ The region that started it all
+ My hometown (Tokyo)
+ Ash/Brock/Misty being from this region
+ Nostalgia
+ Favourites like Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo
- Admittedly, aged poorly, and needs more content/culture/visitable places
- Over-represented
- Gym difficulty is not very well balanced depending on starter

Johto
+++ The other Poke-Japanese region besides Kanto to actually undergo consideration and design as part forming the nation of Poke-Japan, and not being in complete isolation!
+ The first region series to introduce a female protagonist
+ My cousin's hometown (Kyoto)
+ Culture
- Too few Johto Pokemon actually inhabiting in Johto, and many of them being unavailable until later in the game.
- Levels curve poorly managed in the Kanto adventure. Esp Blue -> Red
- Gym leaders poorly balanced for the starter Pokemon.

Unova
++ God bless Poke-America!
+ Pokemon Musical
+ Great storyline and climax in BW1.
+ Gym Leaders actually doing stuff in BW1.
+ Better consistency in difficulty depending on starter
- Level grinding for gym leaders is frustrating
- Also issue of level curve post-game
- There seems to be more Pokemon with poorly-balanced stats, and or lucklusture movepools
-- DS Wi-Fi shutdown, and thus being forced to rush through the game to complete regional Pokedex, resulting in extra difficulty. Really not happy with this. ( I was a latecomer, and played BW after XY.)
+/- Focusing on new Pokemon in BW1: +) Another try at something new, which is refreshing. -) Restricted choices for battling Gyms

Kalos
+++ A even better instance of GF going "Vive le France!"
++ Actually getting a parade for becoming Champion. I think this should be standard in all games after XY, including remakes.
+ Nicely detailed scenery
+ A bit more elaboration on fashion and style (aka character customisation)
+ Much less frustrating EV Training, Trading
+ Fairy types
+ There seems to be much better balancing of gym difficulty based on starter
+ Majority of my favourite Pokemon making a return in this region.
- Some unresolved history/story details, but hopefully should be addressed in Z/XY2.
- Tierno/Trevor being annoying
- A bit light on the storyside, but hopefully should be addressed in Z/XY2.

Kanto (Note this is mostly based off the gen. 1 games because those are the only Kanto games I've played):

Pros:

The original.
Catchy music (I practically remember every single theme)
Strange sense of mystery.
You're forced to figure things out.
It was a bigger challenge (Darn you Dragonite and Lance!)
Easier to complete the Pokédex.
Glitches.

Cons:

Bad graphics.
Horrible sprites.
Unbalanced gyms.
Unbalanced leveling, way too much grinding.
Glitches that hurt the game.
Messy programming. MESSY programing. MESSY PROGRAMING.
Poor storyline.
Did NOT age well.

Johto(Based on the remakes):

Pros:
Chikorita.
Some really awesome Pokémon (Skarmory, Tyranitar, Lugia).
My home region.
The music was freaking awesome!
You get to fight Red at the end.
The Gym Leaders were pretty cool.
Art style was different, yet nice.

Cons:

Very little Johto Pokémon are actually found early on in-game.
Storyline wasn't all that great.

Unova:

Pros:
Based on something other than Japan.
Some interesting designed Pokémon.
Loved the rivals!
The music matched wherever it was played very well.
Victory Road was a nice challenge.
The storyline was the best I've ever seen in a Pokémon game.

Cons:

Some badly designed Pokémon.
Easy E4.
The sprites looked a little odd mashed in with 3D graphics.

Kalos:

Pros:

3D graphics.
Character customization.
Some good themes.
Nicely designed Pokémon.
They did a good job making it France-like.
Picture Spots.
Some of the bad guys were idiots!

Cons:

Everything is EXPENSIVE!
Colors on the Pokémon seemed a but washed out.
Horrible flying animations on certain Pokémon.
Routes don't have big grass patches for the PokéRadar.
Unanswered question, and the storyline was a little silly.

Aaand that's all I have!

Kanto:
Pros:
+ First region ever
+ You can challenge four of the gyms in the order you want (Vermilion/Celadon/Saffron/Fuchsia)
+ GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK
+ Lord Helix... I mean, Omanyte and Omastar
+ Lavender Town and the Pokémon Tower
+ References to the real world (Mew being from Guyana, Arcanine being a Chinese legend...)

Cons:
- Glitches
- Awful graphics even for its era
- Psychic-type is very overpowered
- Takes a turn to wake up
- 100% accuracy attacks are broken
- No post-game

Johto:
Pros:
+ I love the "ancient Japan" feel of the region
+ Noctowl
+ Shiny Pokémon
+ Free Shiny Gyarados
+ The legendaries, specially Lugia and Suicune
+ Day and Night cycle
+ BREEEEEEEEEEEDDIIIIINGGG
+ Tied with Sinnoh for best route music
+ Goldenrod City
+ Joey and his Ratatta
+ Best post game (You visit Kanto!)

Cons:
- Unown
- Team Rocket isn't even trying this time
- Whitney's Milktank
- Batteries run dry
- Apricorn balls are broken
- Whirlpool is the second worst HM ever
- No Safari Zone
- Johto is quite small :/

Hoenn:
Pros:
+ Best player characters
+ You finally meet your DAD
+ Your DAD is a badass gym leader
+ Gym leaders do something other than just stay in their gyms for the first time (Wallace, Watson)
+ Best gym leader: Juan
+ Steven Stone
+ Best starters
+ Tied with Sinnoh for best legendary trio (Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza)
+ Metagross and Cradily
+ PokéNav
+ Berries
+ Contests
+ Abilities
+ Best battle music
+ DEM TRUMPETS
+ Few glitches in comparison to Kanto and Johto
+ Two new villain teams with conflicting agendas
+ Legendaries now take part in the plot
+ Hardest Victory Road
+ Best Safari Zone
+ Great post-game (in Emerald at least)

Cons:
- Poochyena and Wingull
- You may need to do a lot of grinding between Sootopolis and Ever Grande
- Ever Grande isn't even a city
- Few Pokémon variety in water routes
- You can get lost very easily in water routes
- No Day and Night cycle
- Batteries run dry
- Your rival gives up mid-game
- Wally only battles you like, twice?
- Teams Magma and Aqua's agendas are quite odd anyway

Sinnoh:
Pros:
+ Last region based on Japan
+ 3D region for the first time
+ Large region
+ Snow routes
+ Best city: Jubilife City
+ Tied with Johto for best route music
+ Right number of Pokémon (107; not too much, not too little)
+ Good and balanced variety of old and new Pokémon
+ Reclassification of Physical and Special attacks
+ Tied with Hoenn for best legendary trio (Dialga/Palkia/Giratina)
+ Garchomp and Lucario
+ Staraptor
+ Best champion
+ Best Pokémon Professor
+ Gym Leaders are even more active in this region
+ Tied with B2W2 Unova for best plot and best villainous team
+ More Berries
+ Super Contests
+ Poffins
+ Decent post-game

Cons
- Bidoof and Bibarel (Although at least it can be used as an HM slave)
- Too many new evolutions and pre-evolutions for old Pokémon. Not that I didn't liked them though.
- Worst Safari Zone
- Takes a lot of time to save a game

Unova
Pros:
+ Seasons
+ Village Bridge
+ Older player characters (They're around 16 to 18)
+ Female Pokémon professor
+ All gym leaders are involved in the story
+ B2W2's plot is tied with Sinnoh for best plot
+ Fresh Water, Soda Pop and Lemonades are cheap and you can find them in every city
+ You can use TMs as much as you want
+ Your Pokémon won't lose health from Poisoning outside the battle
+ Pokémon World Tournament
+ PokéStar Studios

Cons:
- Not based in Japan; very loosely based in the New York area instead
- Annoying critical HP level bleep is replaced with an even more annoying tune
- Decent Gym Leader battle music is changed when you battle the last Pokémon
- Worst Gym Leaders: Cilan, Chili and Cress
- Worst character names. (Seriously, Chili?)
- You battle the Elite Four in the order you want: this means that all the Elite Four have Pokémon with the same levels. Where's the challenge?
- Gym Leaders are capped at 3 Pokémon, and the Elite Four only have 4 Pokémon per member.
- TOO MANY NEW POKÉMON!
- Worst legendaries (Reshiram is cool though :L)
- Many of those new Pokémon were practically rip-offs of old Pokémon (Zubat/Woobat, Geodude/Roggenrola, Tauros/Bouffalant...), or had AWFUL designs (Vanilluxe is a freaking ice cream cone, Cryogonal is a robotic snowflake? Trubbish is a TRASH BAG...)
- Also, Elgyem.
- Also, there were no cross-generation evolutions and pre-evolutions.
- Not enough old Pokémon in the region
- Only one fishing rod
- You can't plant your berries anywhere
- No Safari Zone
- No Contests (The Musical sucks in comparison)
- You can only BREEEEEEDDD your Pokémon until the post-game

Kalos
Pros:
+ Your characters are rendered in 3D for the first time
+ Character customization for the first time too
+ You can walk in 8 possible directions
+ You can give longer names to your characters
+ There's some sort of love triangle between Calem, Serena and Shauna (Only if you choose Calem)
+ Lumiose City is huge
+ Snow comes back
+ Old Pokémon are back in the wilderness
+ Talonflame and Greninja
+ 100 TMs
+ Mega Evolution (I didn't like it at first, but now I can't stop using it)
+ Wonder Trade makes filling the Dex an easier task
+ Poké Ball Boutique
+ Exp. Share is now a Key Item and it improves all of your party, making grinding less necessary

Cons:
- Kalos has the opposite problem to Unova: THERE ARE TOO FEW NEW POKÉMON!
- Very short post-game
- Worst reason for a villainous team for obliterating the world. (Because "it's too ugly")
- Worst sidekick character: Tierno. Did he do something else other than saying how much he loves to dance?
- The gym leaders aren't involved in the plot anymore
- E4 is organized the same way as Unova's
- Actually, pretty much all of Kalos remains strongly apathetic to Lysandre's death threat
- No proper Safari Zone
- Still no contests
- You only can plant berries in a specific area of the game

Kanto
+ Best set of starters
+ Got us all into the series
+ Well balanced difficulty
+ Fun rival battles
+ Missingno
- Poor game balance
- Legendaries dodge pokeballs unless they are sleeping
- Zubats and Tentacools are freakin everywhere
- Many sprites were off model (Koffing, Ekans among others)
- Pokemon had terribly scarce movepools
- Finite life of the internal battery means the cartridge will lose the ability to save and all your pokemon are erased from existence

Johto
+ Nice soundtrack
+ Culture has a very traditional, old timely charm to it.
+ Introduced Dark and Steel types
+ Large story, keeps you busy
+ Can visit Kanto
+ Apricorn Balls
+ HGSS had an awesome Safari Zone
+ HGSS had pokemon that follow you
- Didn't introduce many Dark and Steel types
- Dragon and Ghost were still incredibly scarce
- Didn't have its own league sharing it with Kanto
- TM lineup was terrible in the original GSC
- Those damn running legendaries
- Has the same battery problem as Kanto

Hoenn
+ Very good soundtrack. Trumpets FTW
+ Region has a beautiful, tropical feel.
+ Made dark and steel more populated and improved their moves
+ Made abilities
+ Cool evil vs evil thing going on with team magma and aqua
+ Much better TM lineup
+ Fixed the battery problem though time still freezes unless you have connected to FRLG
- Too many surfing routes
- Regis are nearly impossible to get unless you use a strategy guide
- Wallace as the champion in Emerald just felt like fighting a stronger version of Juan
- Feebas was absurdly difficult to find
- Can't connect with gen 1 and gen 2
- Battle Frontier opponents cheat worse than an 8 year old with an action replay
- Your rival was so easy to beat

Sinnoh
+ Team Galactic really stepped up the scale of evil team threat level.
+ Had the physical special split everyone asked for
+ Poketch was awesome
+ Lucario
+ Liked the variety of environments present in Sinnoh
+ Cynthia
+ More TMs
+ Lots of stuff to do after the E4
+ Fighting and bug got much better moves to use
+ Liked the gym leader difficulty
- Dragon became broken
- Team Galactic were really weak until Platinum decided to give them something better than level 30 Wurmples.
- Too many event pokemon
- Could never figure out how to get the good stuff from the great marsh
- Too many new pokemon were babies or silly looking evolutions of old pokemon.

Unova
+ The story is probably the best in the whole series, both of them
+ An entirely new pokedex
+ Liked the gym leader difficulty. Nice and challenging
+ Skyla, Elesa and Roxie
+ Beating N's legendary without using yours makes you feel like a badass
+ Kicking the stuffing out of Ghetsis is awesome, both times.
+ Battling Colress is really fun, especially post game where his guys are in their high seventies
+ Pokestar Studios
+ Infinite TM usage
+ Entralink music is freakin incredible as are many other tracks in the game
+ Cheren and Bianca provide an interesting new take in different kinds of players/trainers
+ Cynthia comes back
+ Gym Leaders have more personality and influence during the story
- Starters are terrible battle wise
- Unova pokemon have really shallow movepools
- Black City and White Forest are a pain in the butt to optimize. White Forest rarely has free evo stones even if you have the right people.
- You needed and event from the previous gen to get Zoroark
- Weather wars
- Those damn Watchogs
- No Cynthia in swimsuit scene

Kalos
+ Pokemon looks amazing in 3D
+ Pokemon Amie
+ Fairy types to help restore game balance. Plus Sylveon is adorable
+ Some very unique pokemon were introduced like Aegislash
+ Starters were much better than Unovas
+ You can move diagonally
+ Mega Evolution
+ Many old favorites are obtainable in game for the story
+ Breeding for high ivs is so much easier and possible
+ O-powers remove further tediousness
+ Everyone is so pleasant in this region, aside from team flare
+ Friend Safari once you get it going
+ Easier to get battle points
- Gyms, Team Flare and E4 are too easy to beat even without overlevelling from the exp share
- Friend Safari when you haven't got it going
- Very few new pokemon
- Little to do after story finishes
- Not enough bonus legendaries or bosses after E4
- Gym Leaders don't do enough for the story and are back to simply being obstacles.
- Gamefreak has too big of a hard-on for Blaziken
- Tierno was useless until he starts giving you heart scales
- Where did all the move tutors go?

Hmm....

Kanto
+ The original is always a classic.
+ Long road to Fuschia city with no rest stops.
- Crowded central area compared to other regions
- Got the short end of the stick in Gen 2 (e.g. poor Blaine, no Viridian Forest/Seafoam/Cerulean Cave). HGSS handled it much better.
- Favorite Pokemon in this region: Really don't have many, but there is the Charmander line and the original Eeveelutions (Jolteon is still an all-around favorite for me)
- Least favorite Pokemon in this region: Zubats, every last Fighting-type Pokemon (yes, I did just say that).

Johto
+ some favorite Pokemon in this region: Noctowl, Lanturn (especially Lanturn)
+ Favorite group of legendaries (the three beasts)
+ Bugsy's Scyther (quick U-Turn strategy) in HGSS.
+ National Park
+ HGSS's Pokeathlon
- That cow. That cow....

Hoenn
+ Feels very wild compared to other regions, especially the route up to Fortree and and massive eastern seaboard.
+ Underwater exploration
+ Favorite Pokemon in this region: Treecko family, Manectric, Absol
- (can't think of much offhand)

Sinnoh
+ Favorite Pokemon in this region: Shinx family, Riolu family (first fighting type I ever actually liked)
- Slot machines feel watered down compared to previous generations.
- General lack of personal experience in this region -- doesn't feel all that memorable, really
- No starters I particularly like (I don't really like the Chimchar line all that much so much as I just like the others even less)

Unova
+ Awesome music. I like to hang around Nacrene City a lot even though there's nothing to do there.
+ Favorite Pokemon in this region: Mienfoo (the second fighting type I actually like), Rufflet, Zorua families
+ Huge selection of new Pokemon; no old Pokemon at all until the BW1 postgame (and BW2).
+ Elesa's Emolga tag-team in BW1.
+ Great villainous team in this region; the final battles of the story are actually something other than a standard League Champion match
- No starters I truly like (Tepig's evolutions are disappointing, I wouldn't appreciate Serperior if Snivy wasn't my choice in starter)
- Very linear layout of cities and routes.

Kalos
+ Large layout
+ Great music in many places
+ Favorite Pokemon in this region: Fletchinder line, Hawlucha
+ Favorite Fossil Pokemon
+ All starters have equal appeal (though Chespin and Fennekin's mid forms are disappointing)
- Relatively linear feel to the "coastal half" and "mountain half". Okay, yes, every other region is like that and Kalos is definitely not as linear as Unova, but Hoenn/Johto/Sinnoh still feel more interlinked

...and, last but not least:

Orre
+ Great atmosphere in both visuals and music (especially Phenac City); feels very fresh and original compared to the handheld regions
- Few/no wild Pokemon actually living in the region and no interconnecting routes to explore between cities (from a design standpoint these two are related)
- In XD, I totally miss the floor in Realgam Tower that had the Entei/Raikou/Suicune statues.

Kanto:
+Pokémon Tower
+Inorganic Pokémon
+Introduced Eevee + Eeveelutions
+Raichu
+Great Villainous Team
+Nice looking region
+Funny dick rival
+Leaf
+Unique in that there’s no legendary plot
+Blaine is awesome
+Blue became Champion
+/-Continuity changes
-Radio Tower in GSCHGSS replacing Pokémon Tower
-Not much going for it compared to other regions
-Visited too many times
-Did not need to be in GSCHGSS; took away appeal from Johto
-Screwed up type matchup system
-Lack of Leaf in Pokémon canon
-E4 teams were…unfitting to say the least

Johto:
+Love the traditional appeal
+Dark and Steel-type
+Pretty good music
+Legit dick rival
+Johto Journey’s Theme Song
+Walking with Pokémon was pretty fun
+Pokémon Lost Silver
+New Eeveelutions
+Other gendered PC appears in HGSS
+Red
+/- Pokeathalon
- Box Legendaries hold no real bearing on the plot
-Always shared with Kanto, so it never felt like its own place
-Also shares too much with Kanto, League being the main offender
-TERRIBLE LEVEL DISTRIBUTION!
-No new evil team
-Ridiculous evil team plot
-Kris’s role was taken by Lyra in HGSS
-Took away slot machines in HGSS
-Some music isn’t my personal cup of tea
-Ironically, feature very few Johto Pokémon in Gym rosters and the wild
-Least interesting region

Hoenn:
+Introduced Berry Planting
+A lot of cool Pokemon
+Fantastic tropical region
+Awesome cities and towns
+Challenging games
+Kyogre VS Groudon VS Rayquaza
+Two Villainous Teams
+Two cool Champions
+Battle Frontier in Emerald
+Emerald in general
-No running in buildings
-May isn’t as good a rival as Brendan
-Team Aqua seems to be slightly favored in Emerald
-Contests were hard to follow
-Battle Frontier could get irritatingly hard

Sinnoh:
+Love the Sinnoh Pokemon
+Beautiful region with fantastic cities and towns
+Amazing music!
+Best Champion Evar
+Dawn’s Platinum Outfit
+Hilarious rival (my favorite)
+Best professor ever
+Most badass Villainous Team
+Cyrus is a terrorist
+Fun Battle Frontier in Platinum
+Great Contests
+NPCs + Memes
+Huge improvements in graphics
+Though there were many legendaries, I liked them all
+Pokemon appearing at different times of day
+More Eeveelutions
-Battles could be slow at times

Unova:
+Introduced Animated Pokémon sprites
+Unique Gym Leaders that functioned outside of their Gyms
+Great looking PCs, particularly the girls
+Iris replaced Alder as champion in BW2
+Forcing the use of New Pokémon in BW
+Challenge Mode
+Seasons
+Bianca and Cheren challenged me a decent amount of times
+BW2 Pokedex Habitat Feature
+BW2's Team Plasma was significantly improved
+PWT
+PokeStar Studios
-Pokémon Musical
-Least appealing starters
-Lots of legendaries that felt less expanded upon than others
-Lack of a single canon story
-Sequels instead of Gray
-Worst villainous team in BW
-Terrible Anime series
-No Safari Zone
-Battle Subway wasn't very good
-Worst rivals (seriously, Hugh is a dick)
-Also, Hugh was too much like a friend (battle with him more than against him)
-N
-Alder
-Didn’t like too many new Pokémon
-Horrible Elite Four system
-“Gym Leaders have no more than 3 Pokémon” trend began
-Less than memorable music
-Cynthia felt uneccesary

Kalos:
+MEGA EVOLUTIONS
+Lovely music
+Beautiful region
+Fairy-Type
+New Eeveelution
+Serena is a kickass female rival!
+Shauna’s Goodra
+Good friendly rivals
+Team Flare were awesome
+Lysandre is a terrorist
+Yveltal and Xerneas
+AZ’s reuniting scene with Floette
+Great post-game story
+PSS
+Phenomenal new Pokemon
-Rival-Friends are more friends instead of rivals
-Shauna's too similar to Bianca
-Calem/Serena felt too serious and never came across like the other cheerful friends
-Tierno and Trevor could have been better
-Story/Plot was a bit choppy
-Hawlucha
-Kept Unova Elite Four
-Character Customization (1. People are extremely ungrateful, 2. Took away the appeal from Calem and Serena)
-Removed two of Steel's resistances

I was going to make my list of likes and dislikes of each region but @Team Gaara; list is pretty much like mine, well except about Steel losing two resistances, the Unova pokemon and Hawlucha (this thing is awesome ) but the rest is the same.

Team Gaara that is quite a list, but I'd probably remove a few that are generation-related as opposed to region-related (e.g. G1's type matchups and G5's animated sprites).

Ack, how did I forget that one....

Sinnoh
+Best Champion Evar
+Though there were many legendaries, I liked them all

Unova
-Elite Four system
-Hugh was too much like a friend (battle with him more than against him)

Kalos
-Hawlucha
I couldn't disagree on these points more. None of Sinnoh's legendaries really appeal to me (excepting Sky Forme Shaymin), I don't 'get' all the Cynthia love, I actually liked that you fought alongside Hugh often in BW2, and I totally love Hawlucha.

I also like being able to battle the E4 at your own pace, though sometimes I do wish that as you fight them, their levels go up +2 after every member defeated (because the switch from Lv.50 E4 Pokemon to Lv.60 Champion Pokemon is ... well, rough).

Well, I just included things like that because they were introduced in that region. Also, typically, people tend to think of certain games as correlating with regions. So Kanto and Gen 1's RBY, for example.

The "Cynthia love" stems, most likely, from the fact that she's the first female Champion, and one of the hardest ones, at that. I know a good majority of people, myself included, found the battle with her 31 IV'd Pokemon to be quite the challenge. Otherwise, I guess because she's cool and wears all black, has a Garchomp, and is "hot".

I didn't find her challeging (well i didn't find any champion challeging so far, hell some gym leaders are more challeging than the champion), after i fainted her Garchomp her team fell apart. I only like her because of her theme and because it was the first time i saw a Garchomp, i was like "this the coolest pokemon ever, i need to catch one".

The sudden, massive jump in levels of trainers Pokemon after N's Castle.
Oh god, this. For me it slowed my exploration of Eastern Unova so much. It got fixed in BW2, but i only know this through seeing friends' games.

Also, in Unova the fishing rod is pretty useless. Surfing gets you lower-level stuff and the rest can be transferred (if you're lucky enough to have a gen IV game and extra DS).

Sinnoh's Valley windworks cel shading is beautiful.

I guess I should have put +/- about Steel. It's nice when you're against one, but bad when you're using one~ At least for me~ :p

In my opinion Steel shoul have only lost the resistance to Dark since Ghost is so damn OP now and it really crippled Metagross but Steel type is still the best defensive type in the game and Forretress, Skarmory and Ferrothorn are now easier to take down.
