is it balanced

Do you like his pokemon

Do you think he should have caught other pokemon instead

Post all the Sinnoh teams you think would be suitablr to Ash

They're all pretty good. They've all been well-defined personality wise and have plenty of good battles and screentime.

If we do get two more evolutions, they'll be a contender for Ash's strongest team in the series.

I would have liked to see him get a Gallade, but overall I'm satisfied with the team that he has. Will be even better if Monferno or Grotle (or both) evolve.

Referring to Grotle and Monferno? Buizel should evolve sometime this lifetime too.....

But overall, I don't like it. His team is only for plot's sake. Anyone can beat it.

Type-wise, Ash has a severe disadvantage. Three of his pokemon are weak against ice moves (although this can readily be solved by Staraptor's Close Combat and Gliscor's Fire Fang).
I think Ash should train his current team more. It's been over 15 episodes since he lost to Paul, but I feel he had done little to improve their battling skills.

Personally, I find his Sinnoh team to be the best team he has as of this moment. Practically everyone has or had a moment in the spotlight with specific episodes devoted to them, and each one of them has a personality, and they all have room for improvement, and they're all good battlers. My personal favorites are his Monferno, Buizel, Grotle, and Staraptor, in that order. Gliscor, is my least favorite, but she still has her quirks that make her enjoyable from time to time, I just hate how much of a jobber it is.

I look at things from a competitive perspective. Like Boron said, 4 of Ash's Pokemon are weak to Ice (Gliscor with a 4x weakness to said type). In the show, each of them have good personalities.

If you've watched at least a season of Pokemon, you'd know that most of the time "weaknesses" don't mean shit to them. Pretty ironic in a way, mostly misleading and stupid.

The writers usually have Ash win if he's in a battle with a type disadvantage, so it doesn't mean much.

How many times have we seen Ash get out of a spot where he would otherwise be screwed if this were the games? That's why it doesn't matter.

^that is true, even so most of his hoenn gym victories had lackluster finishes anyway, at least during jouto, the battle froniter and this region they know what thier doing when it comes to important battles.

Of course considering the full battle with Paul, I can't put too much faith in this team to handle the league (especially Paul) by themselves, not to mention they are rather boring mostly and the most intresting two hardly do anything worthwhile (Monferno and Gliscor).

Hasn't he been using Monferno mostly lately? It was just in the tag battle and in the summary for the James episode Ash is training it for the Sunyshore Gym.

I don't think Ash's full battle against Paul really shows how strong or weak Ash's team. Paul went into the battle with specific Pokemon with specific moves to counter Ash's team.

More like Paul went in with Pokemon everyone knew he already had.

I'm not really sure if you got what I said....

Take Paul's Magmortar moves and ability for example.

Rock tomb was for Pikachu's Volt Tackle.

Flamethrower for Thunder/Thunderbolt.

Flame Body for Quick attack.

Now take into account that Ash had never battled Paul's Weavile, Magmortar, or Torterra. Paul on the other hand had battled every single one of Ash's Pokemon. He knew how they attacked, and moved. Why do you think Paul was so pissed when Ash used his counter shield? Because Paul didn't have a move to counter it.

Umm so? If Ash "wants to be the very best" shouldn't he be able to defeat his rival, plus Ash has seen a big handful of Paul's Pokemon anyways. It's also Ash's fault he doesn't catch enough Pokemon in Sinnoh, hence why Paul has seen and battled every one of Ash's Pokemon. Also Ash's Pokemon have very weak move pools, while Paul's on the other hand, have very good move pools. I just think you're mad your hero lost another battle.

Take Paul's Magmortar moves and ability for example.

Rock tomb was for Pikachu's Volt Tackle. (Not good enough.)

Flamethrower for Thunder/Thunderbolt. (Not viable.)

Flame Body for Quick attack. (Default mechanism.)

Now take into account that Ash had never battled Paul's Weavile, Magmortar, or Torterra. Paul on the other hand had battled every single one of Ash's Pokemon. He knew how they attacked, and moved. If Ash is too stupid, which is highly likely, to figure out what strategies Paul can come up with with his [Paul] Pokemon just by watching them, then that would be Ash's problem. It was confirmed in the episodes that he went in with absolutely no strategy. I have no compassion for Ash whatsoever; its a wonder why I like Paul so much more...

But I still stand correct, whether Paul had a strategy or not. We knew all of his Pokemon, and Ash knew all of his Pokemon. No dramatic irony whatsoever as far as this is concerned.
