What do you think about Paul?

Actually, I think that Paul is created such that it reflects how we play the Pokémon games.

Sometimes, for getting a Pokémon that is suitable for our team, we catch a lot of them, and release all whose nature don't match, and calculate the IVs, and then train such that they have appropriate EVs... ect...

I should hope that fans don't say abusive things when EV-training their Pokemon. D:

I do that all the time in battles when my pokemon won't snap out of confusion or sleep when the opponent does so in 1 turn.
I just don't stop giving my pokemon commands... otherwise the battle just sort of... doesn't continue.

Oh god.
I can't unsee it.

Paul is an arrogant ass. And they way he treats his pokémon? Some of it borders on abuse.

And yeah, I think he may have been intended as a jab to the ultra competitive battlers in real life who keep resetting if the legendary has a nature they do not want.

I love Paul as a character, probably even more than Ash. I think he's probably one of the very few good DP characters and it's a nice change to have a trainer that believes in a different battling style, no matter if it's right or wrong. Plus it gives loads of room for character development.

Love the fella. He's an awesome guy.

In a world full of Sunshine and Happiness, he smacks ya silly and feeds ya a nice spoonful of reality.

Paul is very much like Silver, but he is also very much like the average player. Yes, some of us (like me) treat our pokemon as actual creatures, excluding those we catch for the dex, but most people probably don't care about them and just want them to be stronger and win and will get mad when a pokemon misses or hits itself in confusion. So, I agree with the OP.

Paul is the typical real Pokémon game player! We are like Paul when we are playing Pokémon! We chose only the strongest and we haven't got a team so weak like Ash's team!

Paul? He's my 2nd favourite character! He prevents the show from being too 'goody-goody' and well...He's like chocolate for a person who has been on a diet =\. He kicks out the "WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS!" and the Sunshine, medows and butterfly rainbow bit and shoves a spoon of reality up your...Mouth...

Paul is one of my favorite characters in DP. At first he was a Jerkass but I have a feeling after his battle with Brandon, he changing to be a Jerk With A Heart Of Gold.

Yes I'm addicted to TVTropes.

Or on his way. I think it'll have to be a fight with Ash to actually change him into one of those!

For now, he's mainly just The Rival, an Ineffectual Loner, and once-unintentionally in early DP a Noble Demon.

TV Tropes is terribly addicting, isn't it?

He's stupid, annoying and looks like a twat.

I like Paul as an addition to the universe but I hate him as person. I mean, who wants to be friends with guy who abuses his Pokémon and generally acts like an ass to all the trainers he fights?
