The door was left open that night and strangely people were going in and out and they forgot to lock it.Sound's weird to me so what do you think.I think we can all assume she has died so what is your opinion on the matter?

My two cents

I think most Americans missed the story, which is not surprising as they often miss stories that are big in Europe. This is not being judgmental or offensive or anything along those lines. One could argue that Europeans are often not informed on local issues in the United States and that is hardly surprising or unusual either. Anyways I think the question could be considered slightly tasteless in the current context, because it isn't that long ago that it happened.
However I do understand why you asked and why people are so curious.

The case is quite fishy and the reaction of the parents is highly unusual. There was an interview with a German psychiatrist that caught my attention. It was on the topic of Madelaine and he stated that he has dealt with a number of parents that have lost their children. He observed that their reaction runs counter to what is considered normal. In most cases the parents are shattered by their loss and taken over by grief, they could never organize such a campaign or invest so much energy to woo celebrities to their cause or run such a media campaign. They simply would not have the energy or the motivation to do something like this so soon after their loss, however the McCanns pretty much went crazy on it and toured the world relentlessly. Although their approach could be defended by stating that in their desperation they channeled their energy into the search it seems improbable.

My personal theory is, I do not want to waste too much time going in to too much detail, that they gave Madelaine some strong sleeping medication (the father was a doctor and had access to that sort of thing). Probably not the stuff you can pick at a pharmacist's just like that and possibly got the dosage wrong. They then hid her body somewhere in Portugal and started the campaign to possibly distract from these events. Although you may think it sounds like a conspiracy theory there are some factors to back this up, the main one being that the course of events sound totally unrealistic and that they drove quite a distance in their car during the stay. It's hardly chance that they were considered suspects by the Portugese police for such a long period of time.

Forgive me: Who?

I'm rather surprised you didn't hear about it...

Anyway, personally I believe the chances of her being alive now are very slim, if not zero.

Are her parents to blame? Well, the circumstances are suspicious. But I don't believe that the parents had a direct involvement with her dissapearance. Certainly, it would have been wiser to use the caring facility at the hotel, for one. These mistakes, while leading to her abduction, were not done on purpose.

I believe something similar to Swampert, perhaps not the sleeping pills, she could have killed herself, slip in the bath or something. With both parents being very well educated (I think they were both GPs) they would probably know how to deal with it and cover it up and actually have the confidence to pull it off.
As a Brit myself to be quite honest I'm glad the story is starting to die down, it dominated the headlines for literally an entire year and by that time I'd had enough. I didn't like the way the tabloids slated the Portugese police either, at first it took them a long time to find good evidence and the papers moaned that they didn't care and they weren't working and as soon as they take action by suspecting the McCanns (who whichever way you look at it are obvious suspects) they are again slated for being heartless.

I agree, the media frenzy was simply sickening. However the McCanns did try everything to keep the story in the news and they did pretty well considering. I have to say as a British citizen the state of our media disgusts me.

Britain's tabloid papers are rubbish.

Also...the Portugese police did start of quite sluggishly, and took a while to really find their feet. Put they did put a lot of effort into the search, having up to 180 Portugese police searching at one stage.

I agree that they started poorly, but the flak they received for their actions was unwarranted and they did improve considerably, but hardly anyone decided to mention that.

To be honest, I've stopped caring.

The most sickening part is that hundreds of people go missing everyday, it's just the young white girls that get put on headlines all over the world.

It's refered to as the Missing White Woman Syndrome.

I don't really care much anymore, I used to. I think it was bad for the both of them going out and leaving Madaline at the hotel room by herself in the first place and it was not unlikley an event such as this could have happened.

I have two theories:

First, that something happened to madeleine while Kate and Gerry were out and she somehow hurt herself bad and may have died. To cover that up they said she was kidnapped, but what happened to the body then?

She was actually kidnapped, but my well now be dead, but no one is exactly sure.

I lost interest in this a while ago. Just hope the truth can be brought forward and this put to rest soon, but I doubt that.
