What do you think of Ash's Contest style techniques during his Sinnoh Battles?

Go ahead, I'm curious about what people thought of Contest Techniques in Gym Battles. I thought they were pretty neat. They really were probably the reason along with the crazy fun action during early Sinnoh why, I liked those gyms a lot.

-Aipom, Pikachu, and Turtwig's "Spinning" to evade Rampardos, Geodude, and Onix's attacks.

-Buizel's Spinning Aqua Jet which overpowered Maylene's powerful Lucario's Metal Claw. Helped weaken it enough for a Draw.

-Buizel's Ice-Aqua Jet against Wake's Quagsire.

-The Counter-Shield Technique that Chimchar, Pikachu, and Buizel used against Fantina.

-Grotle eating his own Energy Ball to get powered up.

I thought they were really interesting, and they really gave another dimension to the battles. He was still using those kind of techniques at the end though, like when Infernape used Flare Blitz underground to destroy the Spikes.

Something new to the table since they were more than just the attack-and-dodge sort of thing. And something we can't do in the games makes them stand out.

I think its funny that just because the Contests are gone now, all of Ash's techniques he learned have disappeared.

Likewise nobody ever mentions coordinators anymore or Contests in general, as if the people in Unova don't even know what it is.

This

I'm pretty sure both characters will freeze when they meet Dawn or May :D

Or it could be that he has new Pokémon and no contest-based trainer to work with. (Cilan isn't. He's just fancy.)

I liked the extra dimension it implemented, however far it may have strayed from the games (nothing new there). It was neat to watch, namely Ash's Countershield.

Those were awesome. The way they were used shows just how Ash (and by extension, the writers) has become much better at battling (and writing).

It's just sad that since we're in a new region, we'll probably never get a single mention of them ever again.

He should know the moves well enough to be able to teach them to Oshawott, Tepig, Swadloon, Tranquil(maybe?), and Snivy...

And he has Pikachu to teach them!

it shows ash's skill at the time that he was able to adapt dawns techniques to suit ordinary battles
