What do you think the lack of water pokemon in the League means?

When you look at the pokemon Ash used in the League, he barely used a lot of the same type pokemon. 3 ground type, 2 grass types, 3 fire types, 4 flying types, etc. But he only used one of his water types, Buizel, as it was a Sinnoh pokemon in the Paul.

Why do you think that is? Maybe they're being saved for something else is BW? A water pokemon tournament of sorts?

Discuss.

it is because the water pokemon always get the shaft none of them have evolved and the only one who has got like two battles

A water pokemon tournament of sorts?

Better not. Thank you Gible for that disturbing image.

Anyway, hmm, just like leaf494 said, water Pokes always get the shafted. Writers are not favouring them among other Pokemon, so lack of em' doesn't really mean anything to me but I expect Mijamaru to grow big during BW.

This is how I saw this:
Nando- Ash used pokemon with type advantages to Nando's grass and bug-type pokemon (iow Fire, Flying, and Bug-types).
Conway- Focused on a "speed-based" strategy consisting on his on-ground and aerial pokemon.
Paul- Ash used the same pokemon as in Lake Acuity (iow only 1 water-type, Buizel, would be used in this battle).
Takuto- Ash used "powerhouses" like Sceptile, Swellow, and Torkoal that have consistently won numerous battles for him. Heracross was used for the type advantages and Sleep Talk. Gible was used mainly for Draco Meteor. Pikachu was used because he is Ash's partner pokemon/mascot.

I think it means that the writers weren't paying attention. Either that or they were busy rolling dice to see which ones would appear... maybe in conjunction with a betting pool.

I think it means, that the writers need to have Ash pay attention to training his water pokemon before the Isshu league starts unlike in Sinnoh.

I don't think "lack of water types" in the league means anything. Don't read too much into it.

and I think thats its a bit ridiculous to say that water types are "shafted". We may not have seen a lot of their evolutions (but remember, Brock's Mudkip and Lotad evolved) but the main characters' water types have still had tons of screen time and important roles to play in the series. Seriously, after DP gave us Piplup, the spotlight stealing penguin, I don;t think there's really a casefor water types being "shafted" at all.

All of Ash's Water Pokemon got used.

It was just in one of the off-screen battles.

Perhaps the writers wanted those types to shine and get some lime light? Maybe those Pokemon were best for the storyline? Etc.

Because Squirtle and Corphish had already done enough, and the writers hate Totodile.

I think someone here needs to get a slap in the face...
Anyway, while I hoped for Croconaw, I still think the Takuto battle was good, just cause it was so stupid and shocking XD I was like "OMG WTF 0___0 *LAUGH* " when Sceptile beat Darkrai and even more when Takuto sent out Latios
And who knows, DPt and HGSS are on the DS just like BW... maybe Ash will use some older Poké during BW... mainly gen 2/4 ones to advertise these games... WATER TOURNAMENT WITH MISTY AND ASH'S CROCONAW STARS (I'd actually really love it if they do this XD )

Actually by the time the Isshu league starts they would probably be promoting generation 3 more then 2 and 4 (assuming R/S remakes happen).
Also by the time the Isshu leage happens the third B/W version will probably be out on the 3DS so most of the attention would be on the 3DS and in terms of generations the focus would most likely be on generation 5 and 3^_^

I never said League... there's always a chance Ash will use a few older Poké at the middle of a region... a water tournament would force him to use his older ones, in case the tournament force trainers to use more than 1 Poké

It means Misty is coming back!

No.

I think it's a coincidence. We had the whirl cup as a water Pokemon tournament already.

I thought it was kind of odd that Totodile didn't get any focus, or evolve to "complete the set." Though if anything, I imagined that he might have used one during that skippable battle during the Paul vs Barry fight, and I assume it was Corphish.
