What do you think the nature of Ash and Serenas' past interaction is?

Under what pretext did Serena meet Ash, and what did they do?

My theory is that Serena had temporarily moved with her parents to Kanto, and Ash played with her to make her less lonely. Or, something like that.
What do you guys think?

Hmm... just an offhand guess, but maybe Serena lived in Kanto originally, but had to move to Kalos due to a family/work reason (i.e. parent had to transfer to keep current job). She probably knew Ash when they were really little (like next-door neighbors or kindergarten friends), and often hung out with him (probably teasing him due to his almost comical rivalry with Gary at that time *cue the "Ashy-Boy" line*).

It does make me wonder how she figures out Ash is in Kalos? Perhaps the media recording him challenging the rogue Garchomp made her realize that he's now traveling the region (a big story like that would be hard to miss on TV)? That part is what interests me more right now. But yeah, I do wonder what their history is.

I think that's exactly it - with her flashing back to be sure that what she's saw on TV was who she remembered from when she was younger.

I'd guess that he protected her from a wild Pokemon or something, Ash doing a random heroic act of stupidity is fitting with his character, though it would be a very strange departure from normal if Ash actually remembered her though.

Her parents visiting Prof. Oak as the reason for her being in Kanto would solve two problems: give Oak a reason to suddenly know all about Kalos and a reason for anyone from overseas to visit Pallet Town.

That's a good theory. I lived in a coastal town and when I went to the beach, I made a lot of childhood friends who happened to be from out of town. Maybe the two of them were simply playing together one day and became good friends. Or perhaps she got lost near Pallet and Ash helped Serena find her way back.

I honestly don't know but I cannot wait to find out!

I'm jumping on board the theory that she knew Ash in Kanto--the flashback to young Ash couldn't really be from any other new characters unless if it's Oak reminiscing. I couldn't imagine it being any other region than Kanto either as fans would lose immersion pretty quickly if the writers claimed that they happened to have met each other outside of the episodes.

Does anyone else suspect a Kanto 'mon will accompany her if this is true? Nintendo has been pushing gen 1 pretty hard recently with all the new merch in the Pokemon Centers, and of course being able to choose a Kanto starter in XY. I could definitely see the writers have a Bulbasaur or Charmander conveniently follow her and attach to her or Ash when they meet (a la AG/DP Aipom).

If her journey started before Ashs, why is she then getting a Kalos starter?
It would add a nice twist if they were bad friends as kids but they were probably just childhood friends and then she moved.

She has a flashback of seeing him in a forest when he was a couple of years younger, so that's not it.




Wasn't Serena introducing herself to Ash in one of the recent trailers? They probably just bumped into each other once and didn't really get a chance to become friends.

My theory is that she once lived in Kanto but moved for some reason to Kalos, ash being who he is has completely forgot who she is and she'll be either keeping it a secret of knowing ash or will try to jog his memory, plus I think when she sees ash is after the news-chopper reports ash surviving the fall from that tower.

The shippers over where I live are excited. Ash was uninterested in all the girls he'd been traveling with, and now we have Serena, who actually met him when he was little.

And a popular response from a fan was,

"OMG Ash wasn't gay or asexual or anything - he was already taken! That's why he wasn't interested in all the girls he met! What a loyal guy!"


Hopefully, we get to see some light fluffy moments with Ash and Serena. Remember how the Curtis and Yancy dating side-quest in the games were light and cute? They might provide us some minor shipping scenes for us maybe some occasional blushing, the usual childhood crush.
