What do you want to see in the Unova League Tournement

Where do you think it should be?

Who should be in it?

What should the layout be and who should face off against who?

Should characters like Iris battle as they have no other goal than to train?

Should there be new characters involved?

Should Ash finally win something?

Discuss Away:loopy:

I honestly don't want to see him win the league outright because I don't know how or why they could continue the series after that.

The main theme of the anime is Ash's perpetual journey for greatness. Once he achieves it, what can they use as his goal after that?

I want to see Ash do quite well, like last time, and possibly win, and battle against the Elite Four, for once. I hope there's character development, too. Also, for Kenyan and Shooti to do reasonably well.

Well, being the Pokemon champion of one region, isn't being the Pokemon Master of the whole entire Pokemon World. He won the Orange League, even if it wasn't that important.

And, they could introduce a new Protagonist even if he decides to finish his journey after BW.

I want to see Tobias...

EDIT: Serious post. I would like too see Ash, Boanca and Stephen Steven do well. I am not so sure though if I want to see Trip in the tournament. (Or more precisely in the whole series anymore)

Honestly, the only thing I want to see is battles of a Diamond and Pearl caliber. If we get 1 minute battles for the league like we have so far in Best Wishes, then I'd be incredibly disappointed because the league is about battling. In accordance with this, I'd like some interactions between Satoshi and his rivals, but not to the extent of how they were in the Don Battle Tournament for comparison.

Ash's Torterra defeating some guy's Terrakion, to make up for its awful track record in Sinnoh.

If the final battle turned out to be Ash vs. N... I might like that.

I agree with Iteru's post, but I don't want it to be with unevolved starter pokemon. I don't care if they have to rush them now, I want to see good battes with good pokemon. I really want Trip to gone in the early rounds. The final battle should be really action packed, and Cilan saying stuff in the final moments.

Ash vs N, and nothing less... except

Unless Paul shows up to teach Trip a lesson in rivaldom.

Uh! It would be fair to be at the place were the League is in the games!

For the participants Ash,Trip and Bel are there for sure! Stephan,Burgundy and Georgia are possible as well to appear!
N!, Cheren or Hilda one of them must be there as well! I personally am WOWing for N! but either one of them would be great!
It should be an ordinary tournament with some double battles in the first 2 rounds and later with full 6 on 6!
Ash should win so we can finish his story and continue with some new charaters! :D

I just don't want to be bored to tears, that's my only request. And HOPEFULLY, there will be a satisfying conclusion to the Ash/Trip rivalry. If they have a Trip/Bianca battle in the spirit of the Paul/Barry battle, I think I'll rage :/

I want Ash to fail miserably - like Kenny did in the Grand Festival. He has done nothing tactically that suggests he should be competitive at a league, let alone win it. Even if he should comfortably wipe the floor with his current rivals - they aren't setting a high bar.

- Ash exclusively using the pokemon that he has obtained in the Unova region and Pikachu in this tournament. Since Ash will have at least nine pokemon by the time he reaches the Sinnoh League, this should mean that all of his pokemon would receive equal screentime without making the battles repetitive (such as Ash using the same six pokemon in the Hoenn League). The Sinnoh League was a mess because Ash had access to well over 20 pokemon in the tournament, a quarter of whom were only seen in cameo appearances.

- Since Ash supposedly has a lot of rivals this time around, I hope that the writers can eliminate some of them by having the rivals themselves paired up against one another. It would provide interesting character dynamics between individuals who were either shown interacting with one another a great deal in the Club Battle tournament or have not truly interacted as of yet. I liked Barry's matchup against Paul in the Sinnoh League because it was an anticipated matchup that had been established since Barry was first introduced in DP, and was later brought back when the two encountered one another. Hopefully we have something like that, especially for the female characters who seem to have interacted the most with one another during the Club Battle.

- Now that TRio is no longer in every single episode, I hope that the writers will just exclude them from the tournament all together. Part of the reason why some of the Sinnoh League matchups were shorter than they should have been was because we got background commentary from the other main characters/recurring characters as well as TRio themselves.

- I am hoping for the revival of the battlefield change system that was established since the original series. The Sinnoh League screwed over the system by utilizing them sporadically (top 16 and top 4), and only two of the battlefields (grass and rock) were used in the actual tournament. With that respect, I hope that the Unova League can add in new and more interesting battlefields so that we won't have to go through the same old thing that we have experienced in past regional competitions.

By "Diamond and Pearl caliber," I hope you are referring to important gym matches and rival battles that took place prior to the Sinnoh League, because that particular tournament had noticeable flaws from start to finish. Most of the battles in the Sinnoh League felt rushed-- the majority of Ash's Oaked pokemon were not shown participating in the league on-screen, Ash's battle in the second round was only seen for a few seconds, and some of the on-screen battles themselves were resolved either quickly or off-screen (i.e. the most notable battles were Quilava VS Armaldo and Donphan VS Dusknoir).

Yes.

the majority of Ash's Oaked pokemon were not shown participating in the league on-screen

I don't particularly consider the participants that important as long as the battle involves strategy and isn't a OHKO fest (some kind of background to the battle helps too but isn't too major). Our opinions differ on that.

(i.e. the most notable battles were Quilava VS Armaldo

Agree.

and Donphan VS Dusknoir).

Don't agree. They explained with Trick Room iirc which is a legitimate strategy and showed how deadly it could be against fast opponents.

That's what I want in the Isshu league. Logical explanations and strategy. Best Wishes battles mainly consist of constant attacks with little thought.

Ash is getting set up for a win soon. Notice, despite the writers typically resetting his overall experience or his Pokemon's skills etc., he gets better and better final rankings in the League Tournaments.
Kanto: Top 16
Johto: Top 8
Hoenn: Top 8
Sinnoh: Top 4 (and arguably 3rd place overall for losing to the Champion in the semis)
Either he wins this time through, gets runner up, or pulls another semifinal loss. He'll win eventually, whether its now or not we won't know exactly.
Oh, and he beats Trip in an early round. Please, writers? Kick that noob down where he belongs.

Yes.

What I don't get though in that battle is the fact that Donphan is a fucking slow pokemon. Ash should have just said "OMG my Donphan knows Stone Edge" (like he did in every other battle) and just pommel Dusknoir with that

Let Ash finally WIN!

I've repeatedly floated the idea that after becoming a champion, Ash could still continue his journey with a rookie trainer out to make a name for him/herself. Ash would become the mentor instead of the student, which would help him mature even more. (He could sure use it.)

I would kind of like to see that, but not sure how much focus could then be on Ash. It would be weird to see him on screen while a different character was the star of the show.

Multiple times as many battles as we seen so far in previous tournaments and more episodes half a season is fair. Also if they can fit a six on six battle into one episode multiple times that would great. I honestly don't care much about the rivals but I hope Sylvester and Dino show up. I hope to see pretty diverse teams and strong pokes in every opponent.
