What Emerald cloning glitch?

Recently, I've heard widespread talk of a so-called "Emerald cloning glitch". Now, I've had my copy of Pokemon Emerald for at least a year, and never encountered this.
Could someone please enlighten me as to what it is, and how it works?
 
I forgot the exact mechanics, but it makes a perfectly alike clone...

And causes no sideffects, irc.
