Their baring on the plot, their character, their design, changes, the way the characters behaved around them, etc.

A character lifted from the games. Not a counterpart, like Ash to Red, May to May, or Gary to Blue.

For me it has to be Steven. I mean..Seriously anime crew? They could have made the episode better.

They didn't mention him being a former champion (or the champion if this follows RS), they treated him worse then most COTD, the episode was plain mediocre, they treated him like some random hiker guy, (if I recall correctly) he attacked TR for no reason, he had little character, etc.

I have to agree with you on Steven. He's the Hoenn League champion for crying out loud, and only got a 3 minute cameo in a "filler" episode that mainly did not involve him whatsoever.

Steven: worse than most COTD.

Lance: PokeSpe was way better in terms of characterization. And showing up in what should have been Steven and Wallace's turf was terrible.

Wallace: should have come to TA/TM finale.

Archie/Maxie: should have actually been dangerous and evil and not boring. Should have been like PokeSpe.

The Kanto Gym Leaders: you all know why.

Lance: PokeSpe was way better in terms of characterization.

The anime one is more true to the games then his villainous PokeSpe counterpart..However he still seemed a bit odd. Why exactly was he even in Hoenn, and why use him instead of Steven?

Definitely Steven. Lance is my favorite champion, but I was still impressed with his anime counterpart more than Steven's.

I so wish I knew that. Maybe to promote FR/LG, but I don't think they were out yet at the time

If they wanted to promote FRLG they could have dragged Daisy or Leaf Amanda into the anime. Or expand something involving Brock, Oak, or Gary. Maybe go check out Sevii Islands, or the Orange Islands and Kanto again even.

But, wasn't part of the BF in Kanto promoting FRLG?

Yes. They had absulotely no reason to drag one of the blandest of champions/E4 members into a conflict that wasn't even his concern. Steven and Wallace would have been far far better than Lance.

Steven himself was bland, but the ep itself was very funny.

Who doesn't love those eps where the gang gets split up and TR work with Ash and co?

^Hah the episode was funny. But the fact that they gave Steven one measly friggin episode is really sad and the opportunity for character development was wasted(Which probably explains why he may have seemed a tad bland) Yeah so that fails. -_- That's the only thing that annoys me about the Advanced seasons(episodes I've seen so far) - otherwise they're great.

Steven is a big one. Likewise Wallace because they limited him so much.

I was very disappointed in Cyrus--he's the most awesome team leader in the games, but on the show he was almost a parody of himself. If they'd kept him how he was in his first appearence it would have been way better, but they decided to drop all hints of emotion from him and pretty much get his entire characterization from that scene in the base where he says he's lying to his followers rather than any scene that actually made him *interesting* or challenged morality like he did in, you know, every other scene he's in.

I was also disappointed in Looker. They seemed to make him "generic semi-cool detective" than the adorable loser he is in the game.

Not a character, but Pacifidlog was an immense disappointment. Islands? What happened to the floating city?

Crystal/Marina annoyed the hell out of me, but her gameverse counterpart has no personality.

And um...Brendan and Lucas. Very unimpressive.

Sakaki isn't so villainy with his bright, orange suit. I would understand if it was just the fantasies, but he really wears it too...

why'd they alter Anzu's design, her relation to Kyou, and have her name changed into Aya? Oh wait...

In all seriousness though, while I can understand that Aya came first, exactly what was the point of bringing her back in Jouto? Especially when the games had a new kunoichi character (who also otherwise should've been stuck in Kanto, incidentally) waiting to be introduced (and she still waits to this day, along with two of the most sadly under-characterized E4 members in the entire franchise).

Which is funny because very few of the fantasies have him wearing the orange suit.

Although anime Giovanni isn't exactly a snappy dresser, what with that one Hawaiian shirt that we know he actually has (it's red and has black palm trees).

Still he manages to be far more badass than his game counterpart. He just doesn't look as impressive.
