This one's pretty self-explanatory.

One genre I'm sick of is kid coms about teenagers (usually girls) who want to be pop singers (or some other kind of celebrity). I mean, ever since Hannah Montana, these shows have polluted the airwaves. They always have the same characters, just with different names (for example, two best friends being a girl with a severe attitude problem and a boy who's stupid and the butt of all their jokes), the same plotlines, and flat-out mean-spirited behaviour 24/7 (the characters treat their "friends" like shit). Plus real-life teens/tweens are interested in other things besides lame pop music.

Remember to be civil in this thread.

(Can someone please move this thread to Entertainment, Inc. I posted it in Video Games and Technology by mistake.)

For one, I'm absolutely sick of the glut of reality courtroom shows that have saturated US syndicated television over the past decade. Almost every case presented before the starring "judge" in these shows seems to follow a common "formula": Family members or roommates suing each other over a wrecked car, unpaid rent, a dog bite, borrowed items that were supposed to be returned but never were, yada yada yada.
To add insult to injury, these shows litter weekday afternoon television, especially on FOX affiliates or former WB affiliates, when many years ago, they would run cartoons during these timeslots. (By the same token, I can't understand why recent cartoons like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Steven Universe can't be sold to over-the-air broadcast syndicated repeats, yet it's perfectly alright for broadcasters to air trashy "talk" shows such as Jerry Springer and Maury in the mid-afternoon. Then again, though, what with Common Core federal education standards, the war on obesity, and all, kids cartoons are inappropriate to air on over-the-air commercial television yet women beating each other up and taking their clothes off on-camera get a free pass.)

I'm not really a fan the tween shows they have on Disney and Nickelodeon too. I mean, I get why some people like them, but it's just not for me. I like listening to pop music sometimes, but the ones they show are just annoying. I think the only one I've ever liked was iCarly, in the earlier seasons that is. But I just don't watch those shows now, I'd rather prefer my mystery, crime, and suspense shows anyway.

Annoying soap operas consisted of the following:
A twisted Cinderella story where the protagonist is a poor but spunky girl who is actually the long lost daughter of some rich CEO; the antagonist being the CEO's wife being jealous of everyone around her and can't stand anyone else being happy except herself; the love interest is either the CEO's son or someone who can't even decide what he wants for dinner and is influenced by every single person on the show and constantly changes his mind and whines about his angst; and the evil friend/sister/rival of the protagonist who somehow teams up with the antagonist and tries to kill the protagonist. In the end, the protagonist gains her 'rightful' spot as the heir and everyone else is punished one way or another. Details may vary, but this is pretty much the essentials.

This happens a lot on TV where I live (and it's a well-known 'trope' sort of thing), and I'm sick of the carbon-copypasta'd plotline shared by so many shows at the same time. Even when there's something that looks new, there's always at least one of the above mentioned included. I've rarely seen a soap opera that was not a twisted version of Cinderella.

Oh, and another factor that makes me doubtful of any new show that even looks promising: 99.99% of the soap operas or any other drama that is not labeled as 'romance' HAS romance going on in the show. -.- It wouldn't bother me so much if the romance was toned down that it wouldn't hinder the plot, but geez - can't we have a show that's 100% romance-free for once?

I can't deal with any telenovelas/soap operas. They're all so insipid.

I also can't stand this trend I'm noticing (maybe this has always been a thing?) where they make kid superhero shows that have adult superheroes in them, but the adult superheroes always act like total dicks and are portrayed as too stupid to know how to tie their own shoes, so the kid superheroes have to step in and fix anything. Like, really guys? I guess this is all a hallucinatory dream world because obviously the world ended before the kid superheroes were born because the adult superheroes were too busy staring at the sun or eating glue to defeat the supervillains.

Disney "comedies" such as Hannah Montana and those ilk, and the biggest surprise of them all: reality, and in particular the Real Housewives of... franchise (both Australian shows - Melbourne and Sydney - are on pay-tv fortunately and my family got rid of Foxtel so I don't have to suffer from the tripe on Arena, plus it was getting too expensive) . Fortunately, we Aussies don't produce shows like Jerry Springer and Judge Judy (although the latter airs on free-to-air here in Australia on Network Ten), but unfortunately, we have A Current Affair which is pretty much trash.

Oh, and celebrity gossip shows that pollute commercial media.

I agree: a lot of those teenybopper sitcoms seriously need to stop. They're carbon copies of the same premise with the same characters and stupid, insipid story lines and everything! Also, pointless cartoon comedies like Breadwinners and Teen Titans Go, too. In regards to anime, that's obvious: Harems! Ecchi! Need I say more? There's too much of this garbage floating around! (Granted, I know a few good harem anime, but the bad ones tend to be more popular and prominent) And people wonder why I got into anime in the first place...

I have to say: there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many sitcoms on TV for me. I'm just tired of it. Most of them are predictable or I don't like their humor.
Side note: I'm talking about shows shown on Dutch television so if you're not familiar with all the sitcoms, it could be because of this

I'm honestly done with the sitcom formula of "dopey, dumpy dad who's like an overgrown child and his smoking-hot wife who really should be with someone better. Oh and their two kids."
And harem anime. End harem anime.

"Reality TV" where they put a bunch of people together and wait for drama to happen.

Sitcoms in general, especially ones that follow the formula of "dumbass dad and too-good-for-him wife who are unhappy together". Adult cartoons that exist solely to shock (Mr. Pickles for instance) can desist as well.

I am sick of adaptations of anything because they are too predictable, and aren't necessarily that original in anyway.

I totally can do without the Olympic footages. I pretty much avoided Rio this year, and I am looking forward to my hometown's Olympic games in 2020 even less than the usual. (See my blog entry for why.)

Shows or movies where a guy that's chubby like me is treated as comic relief, and never allowed to get the girl in the end.
