I hated the cartoon for a long time at the start - what actually got me interested in Pokemon was when I saw a stickerbook in a local bookshop about the original 150 & there was this amazing wolf-thing that was white with red eyes & tons of tails.

(Later learned it was based off a fox instead of a wolf)

But from the first time I saw a ninetales, that was me hooked.

My Uncle got me hooked at the age of five when he showed me the show on the WB. Then I got hooked on the games at the age of five.

Ninetales!

What got me interested was Nintendo Power's mini-magazine Pokémon Power when I was six. Then I got Blue for Christmas that year and started watching the show, collecting the cards, and playing other games.

Same here. Although I was like 12 or so when that Pokemon Power magazine started in Nintendo Power.

I got Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Pokemon Blue for the holidays that year. Good times, man.

I think it was at the end of my first grade year (I was like seven or so) and my friend got a bunch of Pokemon cards as a birthday present. I'd never even heard of Pokemon before that, but I thought they were so cool and I begged my mom to get me some, so a week later she did. Then she found out there was a Pokemon cartoon and told me about it, so I started to watch it--Bye Bye Butterfree was the first episode I ever watched--and from then on, I was hooked.

My old friend got me into it. We were like 6 years old at the time. He showed me some cards and a video game and I was hooked.

My dad took me to see the first movie. He did not know that I would be interested in it for all these years.

It was all thanks to Nintendo Power. They sent me a video describing the phenomenon just before it was released nationally, talking about what the show and games were all about through the voice of an american woman posing as Ash's mom (but twice her age I'm sure). Then the "Pokèmon Power" bits came out which enriched it further. I got all six, but I don't have #3 anymore. It simply vanished as far as I can tell, I always kept them together and all the rest are still together where I always keep them.

Then I realized that all Nintendo Power did was praise Mario and Link without giving Megaman or Final Fantasy due recognition, and give codes for games that slowly had less and less to do with my tastes.

The anime. My uncle watched it, so I watched it, since I was a toddler back then. Well, not a toddler, but still young.

I don't really recall, since I was barely talking and such when I got interested, but I believe Kiratwig started watching the show because of a friend of his. After that, he asked to get the game, and for Easter, my mom got us both the game (KT got Red, I got Blue). He would know better than I would, though.

My best friend was always really into video games. I never cared about stuff like that until she showed me some Pokemon stickers and cards - and I loved them. I could only find Japanese cards most of the time, so I'd get the kids I carpooled with to teach me the names.

Then I got "The Electric Tale of Pikachu" comics and became absolutely obsessed with Jessie and James. I couldn't draw back then, but I was always tracing pictures of them from it. I eventually started watching the show just because of them, but was annoyed that they always lost. Eventually my mom got me a GameBoy Color and Pokemon Red. I could go on, but I won't.

That was pretty much my story too, except I got the games duty-free while on a holiday overseas...

My cdousin let me borrow his copy of Red and i was hooked immediately and the later i got right into the anime and the rest as they say is history

My brothers friend let me borrow his Pokemon Blue version when I was about 5 or 6 and that was it,I fell in love with Pokemon straight away, later he let me keep the game.

I kind of just got swept up in the fad at the time. I guess I was in fifth grade, and new first season episodes were still coming out. I guess I started with the cards because they were easy to get. I never bought a single one, but I traded my way to a good collection. I was always significantly in to pokemon when I first got Blue version.

I was not very rich as a kid, so I didn't have cable. I would always watch local channels, especially for Saturday morning/primetime cartoons. My memory's a bit fuzzy, but I recall viewing the premiere of the first episode (It's rare that I "grow up" with a show, since I usually show apathy for the premieres). Yeah, being about five, I was entranced right away.

Cue the down spiral of my life.
