According to the active user history, 508 people were on BMGf. What's up with that? I'm shocked the server could handle that much.

Probably a lot of Google search spiders/bots and stuff like that. D/P were still freshly out at the time, so no doubt Pokemon-related Internet searches spiked.

edit: Crap, read it wrong. Thought it was talking about this year. I need to go to bed. The other half of my answer still stands though.

lol, I was about to ask if you were there.. hm.. when was the first real game info released? Probably after then... maybe that was when Serebii shut down, hmm... now I'm curious.

[edit] lol, I think I need to get a grip on the time by years, lol, I believe I was way off

Thought it was talking about this year.

You'd think it would though. Diamond and Pearl was practically the resurrection of Pokémon. What could possibly have caused such a huge amount users and bots?

I can only say one thing: The hand-over when Pokemon USA received the anime license from 4Kids, which eventually resulted in the VA switch.

Yes, I think that may have been why so many people were on at that particular time.

Because, when that first happened, every time I would check the Currently Active Users thing, I'd always see a BUNCH of people reading the threads. I was thinking to myself, wow, I've never seen Bulbagarden so popular before! O_O

Really? I didn't think it caused that much concern to everyone.

Oh believe me, it did, Geoff!

You should've been here at the time of that event. Because it pretty much shook up the entire Pokemon fandom, since no one saw it coming.

It was completely unexpected. And at the time, many people were curious about it. Everyone wanted to know what was going on with the companies, and some people speculated about what was going to happen.
