What happened to Bianca?

In the first season, she wasn't a main character by any means but still got a decent amount of screen time. 8 focus episodes (according to Bulbapedia), which I'd wager isn't bad at all. Overall, she seemed to be coming along promisingly as a character and rival.

In season 2? 30+ episode long gap between appearances. One focus episode. Did reasonably well in round 1 of the league,
was (unfairly, IMHO) cheesed out of a victory in round 2, thereby shoving her back into a relatively minor role.

No more appearances for the foreseeable future.

What happened? Do the writers have a grudge against her or her voice actor or something? Was this the result of a popularity contest or what?

Many rivals in the show go long gaps without appearing. Not just in Best Wishes, but in all previous sagas.

Why are you acting like this is something new or shocking? Many rivals have gone 30+ or more episode gaps.

What made me suspicious was that not only did several other rivals (e.g. Georgia) continue to appear during Bianca's absence as if nothing happened, but
that she was eliminated two rounds into the Higaki Conference. (Granted, so was Trip...)

Barry was eliminated early in the Sinnoh league as well.

I'm not sure what anyone expected out of Bianca really. She was constantly portrayed as a ditzy female trainer who was never paticularly good at battles, hence she she lost almost all her on-screen battles. The fact that she even made it to the league is a miracle in itself.

To be fair, Bianca did show some signs of improvement earlier in the season (in the Clubsplosion arc with her defeats of both Trip and Georgia and the Chargestone Cave arc with her and Juniper's near-defeat of Cilan and Ash, for example). She still isn't great, but better than she was - although granted, making it to the league was a lucky break.

Well, in fact she was shown to be quite a Trainer in the Clubsplosion arc, mainly because back then, the writers wanted to showcase Emboar (being a Fighitng-type).
Still, Bianca only has 3 Pokemon. It would be a bother to give her 3 new Pokemon out of nowhere to make it to the full battles. (Heck, even Barry, who had 6 Pokemon didn't make it to the 6v6)
The question imo is different: With Episode N launched, will Bianca return? Will she make it to her B2/W2 self?

i think she got the pink slip... Unless she somehow plays a role in the N arc i think she is done for good. as to her appearing in her BW2 look i doubt it cause it would be a bit awkward to have her gain 2 years while in anime time it may have been a few weeks since her last appearance. but hey anything can happen between now and XY

She should have followed Satoshi back to Kanako Town after the Isshu League and then decide to stay with Araragi-Hakase to train to be her assistant.

But I guess that would have made too much sense.

Hopefully they'll make her Cheren's childhood friend (as in the games) and touch on that at some point, but I wouldn't count on it at this point.

That would have been kind of nice, even though I don't think it would have made as much sense for that to happen as it did in the games due to how Bianca's character has been handled in BW. Still, it would have reminded me more about video game Bianca and be a better sendoff for her than what most other rival characters get.

I get the feeling all the Unova rivals have been written out with the leagues conclusion. There's really nothing indicating we'll see any of them in the N arc to be honest.

That's possible, although I could see them bringing back Burgundy and Georgia for more comedy relief dialogue between them. I could see them bringing Bianca back if she is childhood friends with Cheren, but even then, she might just appear in a flashback instead of in the series proper again. I wouldn't mind that since anime Bianca hasn't really appealed to me and I'd much rather see them handle Team Plasma over her, even though they might not be handled that well either in the long run.

I don't think this is too much of an issue - they were happy to give Conway three previously unseen pokemon for his league battle with Ash, after all.

Like a lot of people, I was disappointed that Bianca didn't do somewhat better in the league - sure, she was first and foremost a comic relief character, but she also had a pretty compelling incentive for development (her daddy issues and all - I found that more interesting than Trip's on-again, off-again relationship with Alder at any rate). I thought they were heading in that direction in the Donamite when they had Emboar secure her her first onscreen victories, though with hindsight I suppose it was designed more to give the fully-evolved starter form its obligatory glorification. I'd like to think that we haven't seen the last of Bianca, because it would be nice if she could exit the series on more of a high note, but, eh...there's no reason to assume that she (or any of the Unova rivals) will return right now.

Meh, we won't be seeing her again any ways. I enjoyed her character while she was still here and she'd keep knocking Ash into the water giving us shirtless Ash tons of timesXD

Well, Cheren's episode has come and gone, and we've gotten neither hide nor hair of Bianca... I'd say the good ship Her Fans' Only Hope Of Seeing Her Again has sailed. :( Want to say I'm just being a pessimist, but...

Just because they were rivals in the games doesn't mean they know each other in the anime, and she really wouldn't have had a reason to be in Aspertia at the time anyway. there's still a chance she'll show up, don't worry. :)

It is kind of odd that they didn't establish some kind of connection between Cheren and Bianca given how that was important in the games, but the anime has never been a faithful adaptation of the video games to begin with. She might appear in whatever they have planned after Episode N, but I don't think it's too likely to happen. Aside from maybe Burgundy and Georgia to resolve their rivalries with Cilan and Iris, I don't think that the writers would be that interested in bringing back the rival characters for the last chuck of the series.

The only way now I could see her returning, is if they have one last tournament with all of the rivals in it. They did kind of end Ash's/Trip's rivalry in the league kind of, Bel not so much so maybe??? Good-bye Bel, it was nice having you as the first real girl rival to Ash and you were fun while you lasted.

This is why I think Bianca should have been Ash's female companion instead of Iris. Bianca is much more tolerable than Iris (in my opinion, of course), so naturally we see about ten times as much of the latter than of the former...
