When I heard a new generation of pokemon was coming out, I was really excited. I was eager to find what new concepts and tricks would be added to competitive battling and what new pokemon would be joining me as I defeat gym leaders and take down evil organizations. Then the titles turn out to be the letters X and Y... WHAT???

Looking back gen 5 wasn't all that creative with black and white and their ice cream pokemon garbage pokemon, etc. Even so, gen 5 turned out pretty good so I decided to grin and bear it as the new pokemon started being released I began to get skeptical ( a Y shaped pokemon??? What the heck were you thinking) but it was okay.

When Pokemon X and Y appeared at E3 I decided that the weird shaped pokemon could be overlooked, I looked over the new announcements the night after the presentation and raged.

Who's idea was it to put fairies into pokemon. Sure I've seen articles explaining why fairies could be okay but seriously, just because Morgan le Fay was a fairy isn't enough. When I started playing pokemon it was all about the battles, even now in 2013 I love competitive pokemon but I don't want my dragons killed by darn pixies!

Even since gen 1 with just 3 dragon types, dragon was a clearly superior type kept at bay only by other dragon types or ice types, but with this fairy type coming in, dragons are no longer as intimidating. Another annoying addition is that poison is being given a second chance. Poison is one of the least practical types with only one type advantage.

Thanks to this, game freak has attempted to boost the strength of poison types slightly with strong attacks (gunk shot, poison jab, sludge bomb, sludge wave) strategic capability (toxic, toxic spikes toxic-venoshock combo, high-speed infiltrator crowbat) and powerful abilities (chlorophyll Venusaur, effect spore amoongus and vileplume and rain-healing toxicroak and tentecruel)

Poison types will be overpowered when they are the prime defense against these unnatural dragonslaying new additions.

All my love for pokemon is falling apart. we went from this in generation 1:

The awesome creatures controlled by only the most elite trainers

To this in generation 3:

Powerful allies on the field of battle

All the new pokemon look too soft to fight with they look more like cute little animals that you'd stop to look at rather than pit against each other in a fight to the knockout. Sure, I admit fairies deserve a place in ledgends and fantasy stories but not in pokemon!

I am a long time pokemon fan but seriously what happened? Can anyone help me see how this is a good thing?

February 27, 1996: Pokémon Red and Green are released. Pokémon is declared Ruined FOREVER.

*yawns* Next declaration of Pokémon's ruinedness please.

Why don't you post a fairer comparison than Rhydon, Blaziken and the little fairy?

Otherwise all I have to say is, we went from this in Gen I:

to this in Gen III:

to this in Gen VI:

If you say so.

Considering most of what has been revealed seem to be unevolved, yes. Go look at the majority of previous generation unevolved Pokemon and tell me whether they are cute little animals that are too soft to fight--because they are.

It's not really fair to compare First stage Pokemon with a fully evolved one.

There, fixed.

They were comparing what is likely an unevolved "cute" Pokemon to evolved "cool" Pokemon, so I compared two unevolved cute Pokemon with one fully evolved cool Pokemon... So, no, I'm not sure what needed fixing there tbh.

There is no way you can be making this argument when we haven't even gotten the whole Generation VI dex yet. I'm sure there will be plenty of "badass" Pokemon that'll tickle your fancy. Right now, it's just not the time for complaints like this. Try again when the games actually come out.

Some of the staff have discussed this and decided this thread is better off closed.
