Didn't Dawn capture a Swinub like 20 episodes ago? What has Swinub done besides be a tired Munchlax clone since its capture?

Do the writers have trouble handling all of Dawn's Pokemon aside from Piplup?

yes. I think everybody's fed up with Swinub, Pachirisu, and Buneary. Its like they arent even there.

People complain earlier Pokemon had no personality, but at least they were seen outside their Pokeballs! :p (With the excpetion of the birds of course)

I'm tired of you making several threads a day.

They haven't been focusing on Dawn's contest arc lately because of Ash's gym battles and Jun appearing.

How the hell does someone get tired of something that's not even doing anything?

I did notice the writers not giving Dawn much to do lately, but Swinub in general has almost no screentime beyond those group shots when they're eating or whatever.

Is this that true for Buneary though? I don't think its that shafted anymore.
I just want Swinub to do something..a battle , even if it loses, before it evolves.

Everybody assumes that Swinub will be rushed to a Charizard-extent because of that Mamoswine image. It could easily be another trainer's Mamoswine.

Hmm. I don't want it to be rushed though. I'd like it to stay as a Piloswine for a while.

I don't really see how this is a valid topic. Maybe a speculation as to what Urimoo will do, rather than a question that can easily be answered would be better.

If you go back 15 episodes, we have an episode about Pachirisu, a contest where Mimirol and Eteboth were used (not Potchama), the Galactic arc, the Fantina introduction and it's subsequent battles, the Summer School arc and Jun's introduction.

There hasn't been but two out of 15 episodes really focusing on Hikari, and of those two, the featured pokémon were Mimrol, Eteboth and Pachirisu. Because all of the other episodes are really plot heavy and leaning either towards Satoshi or the series overall, it just appears as if Hikari doesn't have any pokémon besides Potchama.

Urimoo will at least be seen this week because of all the pokemon getting separated. Hopefully it'll actually be doing something interesting.

Unless I'm mistaken, didn't May's Munchlax not do much of anything until several episodes after it was captured? At least, it wasn't used in a contest until long after it was captured...

As for me, I'm all for rushing the evolution to Mamoswine. I can see where Swinub can be seen as kinda cute, but Piloswine is anything but. Well, y'know. I don't think it's cute, and I doubt it would function as anything more than a slightly bigger Swinub-pretending-to-be-Munchlax.

With Mamoswine, though... that, I can see being an awesome method of transportation for Dawn. Still won't be cute, but the imagery is a bit more amusing than it would be as a Piloswine.

We were so excited about the piggy when we saw that trailer; it's easy to see why we're disappointed w/ it. The last (and only) time Dawn only had Swinub out was the Psyduck one. 102-77=15ish: pitiful. Swinub hasn't gotten as much screentime as it's debut in all of it's subsequent appearances combined!

I don't know if Urimoo really has any potential if it stays unevolved; it's design is very generic. Plus, what personality could you give the thing? The gluttonous pig . . lol, nice one.

I personally wasn't psyched about Dawn getting Swinub at all when the Movie 11 pic was revealed. There's a ton of cuter, more fitting Pokemon out there for Dawn (plus, do we really need an ice-type for her when Buneary already knows Ice Beam?), plus I feared that this was somehow going to tie in with her childhood friend, Leona, and her three Swinub and I never really cared for that character at all. Thankfully it didn't (so far), but all the same, I was never really supportive of this capture. Like many others have said, Dawn getting yet another Pokemon when most of her others aside from Piplup have had only a few small chances to shine really wasn't timely in the least.

I remember people joking that Leona could be Kenny's sister. Yeah, Leona was a very boring filler character. With any luck we won't see her again.

The funny thing is most of the fandom loved Piplup when DP first started, and now so many people are sick of it.

Yet the writers don't seem to get the clue, (see the current Japanese ending all about Piplup), and her other Pokemon don't really get the attention they deserve.

Its kinda sad, I think, that 11 years into the series and the writers still can't handle a main characters team properly.

I too liked Piplup when the series began, but that's because it had a fresh personality and its fighting with Dawn was pretty entertaining. I'm sure it's been said before, but it wasn't entirely unlike how Ash and Pikachu didn't get along in the first episode. But like Ash/Pikachu, Dawn and Piplup degenerated into a boring, generic friendship bond that gets old after so many episodes. Piplup's undeniably an attention whore since it won't stay in its ball half the time, so it's not even subtle when the anime's trying to market the character. Plus I remember Dogasu remarking on Piplup's stupid antics that came out at random at the very end of the last Tag Battle episode that really did nothing but... glorify that Pokemon.

In moderation, Piplup would've been just fine, but shoving it in our faces constantly just runs it way too far into the ground. With Buneary being love-struck for Pikachu and Pachirisu being an adorable little trickster (plus Ambipom showed tons of personality as Aipom already), it's obvious the rest of Dawn's team has potential and deserve to have just as much screentime. It's not like May's Torchic got shoved into the spotlight this much. Our society just suddenly has this stupid fetish for penguins and it leads to crap like this... but man, this is me veering way off topic again.

Swinub, on the other hand... it's hard to give it much other than a Munchlax Mk. II personality, which I'm tired of, personally. That's why I'd prefer to see it quickly become Mamoswine. I have this perfect vision of Dawn riding on one of its tusks while poor Ash and Brock are forced to walk. Plus it could be a handy method of transportation if they go through the anime equivalent of Route 216 and it becomes nastier than usual if they're already integrating Platinum into the storyline...

I think Ash's teams, except the bird, have been handled well. As was May's team, except Munchlax apparently. But see, Munchlax was original then, so I didnt really care weather it was in a contest or not. It was funny!

Which is why I dont really see Dawn with another Pokemon. We'll probably get the Swinub evolution, and possibly Buneary (not likely though). Regardless of what people think, the writers do reuse plots and ideas. Thats why I think Dawn's team will stay at 5, like Mays did, and she'll dump a few for the BF.

But like Ash/Pikachu, Dawn and Piplup degenerated into a boring, generic friendship bond that gets old after so many episodes.

I noticed that as well. One of the reasons I originally liked the Dawn/Piplup interaction is because they fought with each other, Piplup was arrogant and so was Dawn.

Yet...all that disappeared after like the first 20 or so DP episodes. Turning their dynamic into another Ash/Pikachu type of friendship was disappointing.

To be honest, I don't like how Dawn's personality changed from early DP either, she's lost a lot of her spunk and all she seems to be interested in is Contests nowadays. Dawn even used to bicker a bit and had a slight temper, but that seems to have disappeared and been replaced with an extremely girly personality. I still find Dawn entertaining, but I liked her a lot more in early DP than what she's becoming now.

This is getting off topic though, so back to Swinub.

I could see it being like how Turtwig evolved into Grotle. Even though Piloswine or whatever probably wouldn't have much of a personality, it'll at least be an improvement due to its size and battle capabilities.

Maybe Swinub went on a diet and has hence been too afraid to leave its Pokeball, lest it get tempted by food. Maybe.

Although I think it's just typical shafting in favor of the penguin as per usual. Which is a pity, I'd love to see moar of everyone else.

Maybe if it evolves, it'll have a battle with Jessie's Yanmega in a contest and Dawn will see she does not utilize Ancient Power wisely. Then there'll be an arc of Dawn learning how to deal with Mamoswine, maybe this could continue for around 3-4 eps. What do you think?
