in the Pokemon world?

Mine is that I have been a trainer since the first generation, and today I realized that poison is not effective against ghost. Like, I've had no idea this entire time! I don't even know how and/or why this is?

Name something that you recently found out that has truly astonished you.

The staff and I decided that this topic was better suited to Pokémon General Discussion since it can contain more posts outside of Sun and Moon. Of course, talking about SM is fine, just remember to keep your spoilers in spoiler tags! :)

I disagree because lately could mean SM or XY, ORAS, BW, BW2, or anything before. It all depends on the game the current user is playing.

Its random and not a new really a huge thing to announce, but I was shocked to find out how popular Kirlia is in the Poke-Furry community. I knew Gardevoir had fans, but didn't know Kirlia did. I adore Kirlia, but not for those reasons!

I think what surprised me the most was in DP, learning that Pokemon who were eaten could regenerate by having their bones tossed into the sea. It really kind of makes me wonder if Pokemon are immortal to an extent.

But then again, none of the Pokedex entries mention that sort of thing. In fact it's the complete opposite, as you have Pokemon eating each other whole. Plus if Pokemon could regenerate themselves, then I don't think we would have the Mother Marowak and Cubone sub-plot in RBY and the subsequent grave towers or even fossilized Pokemon. The series is very inconsistent that way.

I was a bit shocked during the final battle in Sun/Moon, when the opponent begun the battle using Stealth Rock. Idk why I was surprised, but it's rare that in-game trainers use competitive strategies.

The games have been out less than 2 weeks, so I won't say who it is.

I was shocked to find out that Lusamine is over 40 years old. Apparently her secret is fashion, I think.
She's 40!? Can't say it shocks me though because anime typically tricks people often with ages. Sometimes a girl who looks 12 is actually 60.. Its just, so hard to determine sometimes! Thanks for announcing that though.

Some of the Rex entries in Sun and Moon are... surprisingly cynical. Primeape's comes to mind.

It has been known to become so angry that it dies as a result. Its face looks peaceful in death, however.

Another shock for me is finding out that the opponents in Battle Royal are actually competitive battlers. One had a Venusaur with Life Orb.

Well, in-game, that story is explicitly presented as a folk tale. No reason why it should immediately be assumed to be true, or at least 100% accurate.

Sure, but a lot of fans, even Bulbapedia, takes it as fact.

I never thought I'd say this, but Pelipper is actually... kind of... good. I used one in Sun and Moon since it was the first Pokémon I caught and, while it sucked hard in the early game, when it finally got good moves in the form of Hurricane and Hydro Pump, it turned out that it was actually a good attacker, and it one-shotted most of Hala's team in the E4. It also is surprisingly good at taking physical hits, aside from Electric ones. In fact, it ended up being the best member of my team in the long run, as Decidueye became too slow for its somewhat fragile defenses, Pelipper had enough speed to pick up the pace. Never underestimate the power of a Pokémon who loves to annoy you when surfing.

It's pretty clear that, Lunsamine took whatever Cyrus did, and then did the complete opposite of that.
Perhaps this kind of implies she was some kind of spoiled child with no expectations placed on her, which is something interesting to think about...

Nihilego (UB-01) is actually it's own stand alone Pokemon and has nothing to do with Lillie~ XP Lillie's presumed to look so much like it because Lusamine dresses her to resemble Nihilego, seeing as she buys her clothes for her.

On that note, the fact that UBs are Pokemon in general seeing as it seemed like they were trying so hard to refer to them as some Alien species. I thought it would be unlikely that we'd be able to catch them in SuMo, but the are indeed considered to be Pokemon~

I never knew rock was normally effective against rock until yesterday. My Lycanroc when up against another Lycanroc and it listed his rock moves as being normally effective. I just assumed it resisted itself all this time:/

Also what @Team Gaara said.

I was immensely surprised by how dark and compelling Sun/Moon's story and characters were for a Pokemon game. Seriously... it caught me so off-guard, these games truly stand out in my mind now. Totally memorable.

Also, was surprised by Salazzle and how great it was. Offensively, it almost always had a good move for the situation. Defensively, its Fire/Poison typing really made it able to resist a lot of types that could decimate the rest of my team. Tsareena's physical defensiveness combined with a Reflect was also a pleasant surprise. It was my tank and I never expected that for a feminine Grass-type Pokemon. Also kind of surprised at how powerful and intelligent the Sun and Moon trainers are. Even with a Solgaleo on my team at around the same level as the NPcs, I found it fainting frequently, making me think that Legendaries aren't quite as powerful as I've always thought they were. These games were in general a big surprise and shock for the Pokemon series.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the game's story and characterization. Despite the overall happy ending I felt a bit sad that Lillie's not in Alola anymore. I'd say it's pretty close to BW's story.

In hindsight I suppose it makes sense the Aether Foundation employees would be better equipped than Team Skull since they're well funded and stuff. But I was surprised at the variety of pokemon they had since most organizations stick to one particular group of pokemon.

How much slower breeding in XY seems compared to how it is now. Even without O power the eggs are fast (no more having to move off screen for the npc to refresh) and they hatch much faster than the O power X3.

Also, I've gotten a few Pokemon in bank balls through Wonder Tade that I'd otherwise not bother with, but whoever caught my future Lyconroc in a Moonball handed me my next project.
