What Pokemon would be what nationality
in your opinion
:)

Just something I thought of :)

Please keep any racist opinions to yourself this is a friendly thread =]

In my fanfiction I have kind of a racial undertone to it in that the Kanto region tries to control the politics of the Hoenn region in a similar way to how the US tried/tries to control Latin America.

EDIT: I misunderstood the point of this thread. If you are trying to assign pokemon to ethnic groups I won't take part in it.

Races =/= nationalities though.

I'm not quite sure what you want people to answer in this thread, other than associating pokémon traits with races (or more specifically, racial stereotypes) which is probably a bit absurd. There's really no way to do that without being racist. Other than the whole thing about jynx's design being based on the stereotype of a black woman there's really not much to go by.

I however will bite.
Jynx is a black women.

How do you know when she has rouge over her face? She has it on her hands too though, that is strange. But black women aren't blond. I always thought she was nordic, like a viking or something, despite her dark face.

I sometimes wonder if different Pokemon are different species or just different races, considering that a lot of them breed without problem. Then there are of course Pokemon who look different, like in colour, for instance karanakushi, depending on where they live, but how different do they have to be to be a different race? When is a Pokemon a different race? When is a Pokemon a different species? Where goes this line?

I wonder if Eevee's evoultions are different races? Or are they different species? If they were though, they should evolve from Eevee by the Evolution, that is, through generations, not evolve as in growing older. If they were different races, then I think that also is determined before the Eevee evolve, what I mean is Eevee's evolution will be decided by its genes, rather than where and how it evolves. Yet, Eevee's evolution is not chosen by its genes, but by the environment. Then, can we call the evolutions of Eevee different species or different races?

Don't different color morphs kind of sound like different races - like in Shellos and Gastrodon's case?

I'm glad that humans in the Pokemon world have different races, though. I like seeing dark-skinned characters (like Lenora, who really looks African and not Ambiguously Brown).

If Countries then the ones they're from, Ie Kanto-Sinnoh Japan, Unova American, Kalos French.

If we talk about black and white races, we have these Pokemon:

She's a Ganguro girl. Or a Yama-Uba. Probably a combination of both those things.

I was basing this on her name Rougela. Rouge is a kind of make-up. I looked at Bulbapedia to find more information and it seems she has many possible origins, like that her skin is frozen blue.

But I wasn't that far off when I thought she was a Viking:

"What Jynx is based on is a controversial topic within the fandom, although common interpretations are a Nordic or a Viking woman (possibly Hel, goddess of the underworld), or ガングロ ganguro, face-black."

That she is a Ganguro seems believable though. They use lots of make-up, which again explains her name. I'll probably stick to that theory as well.

Yeah, I know that. But the whole viking angle doesn't make any sense to me. Just because people living in cold climate have blond hair means that Jynx is based on that? I mean, granted, that's probably where Yama-Uba's white hair comes from but I doubt that was the initial source of inspiration for Jynx, it probably just a case of someone getting inspired by a source that was inspired by another source.

This is the only thing posted here worth discussing. Initially, it seems difficult to draw the lines at what constitutes a specific species. I would have said each egg group is one species since they can produce fertile offspring, but Ludicolo breeds with plants AND fishies, but Jumpluff and Mantine are definitely NOT the same species.

Right, so it seems like the point of this thread is to assign races to different Pokemon which is just asking for trouble, so I'll close this. If you want to talk about Pokemon in terms of interbreeding/species definition you're welcome to make a new thread for that.
