...As in redoing old episodes in high quality, and scrapping the fillers. Would you still watch it?

Gee, I thought Pokemon was pulling a Kai all over itself already.

Seriously, no. Not until Pokemon gets itself a proper ending.

^ This.

Although, if Pokemon (ever) does end, I WOULD like a DDK version of it. <3

Pocket Monsters is way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more episodic than DBZ ever was, so it would be harder to splice episodes the way they're doing with Kai.

Plus, the show isn't really old enough to warrant a "remastered" version yet.

I think it's ridiculous to "remake" the epiosdes like that, especially when they probably have a lot to work on the new episodes
Really, they better just keep focus on what they're doing now rather than bother to make us something we already saw
I also completely against doing multiple version for one episode... I just find it stupid... even if there were things to improve in something's original version - I say leave it as it is and just learn from your mistakes for next time

Not to mention a lot of fillers in Pokemon are very funny episodes, and still add to the overall story in some form if they have good screentime for a certain Pokemon.

Although I do think of all the sagas, Johto is the one that could use the most streamlining and the most condensing.

hypothetically, what would you say if they animated Dengeki! Pikachu? That's right, an adapation of an adaption of an adaption of an adaption. XD

But what I'm really getting at is that Dengeki! already seems to have spliced the episodes (and I guess the high amount of detail in the artwork, with some of the most realistic-looking Pokemon in the franchise, could count as "remastering").

So your point? A lot of the DBZ fillers were amusing and not bad; my brother's worried they'll cut the Afterlife Tournament out (which was pretty damn good, but never-the-less a filler arc).

It wouldn't be about "screen time". It would be about keeping the /story/ flowing (which there is little of, outside Gym battles, contests, and some evil team scheme on occasion). Pogeys would be nixed left and right, because it suddenly would NOT be about the showcasing, but the story. Why condense a series that did the showcasing already and try to maintain those elements? No point in holding on. You want showcasing? Go watch the original. You want a story that doesn't stop the breaks for anything? "Kai" it.

Yet, no, would not happen with Pokémon. You couldn't even do this to Sailor Moon without having to fall back on the manga entirely, for that too was episodic, whereas DBZ is just a constantly moving story. And since Pokémon has no medium the anime is based on (not even the games) to fall back upon for backup...no. Won't ever happen.

Now that would something a lot of people would want and Rocketshippers would pay good money to see. But a Kai version of regular Pokemon? That just wouldn't work for reasons already listed.

Holy crap, this.

I'd be up for updating the animation some time in the distant future. I mean, why not? But trimming down episodes and editing them together is a no go. Not that either of those ideas will ever happen, though.

Dengeki didn't so much "splice episodes" as "just adapt a few of them and ignore the rest".
Would be fun to see an anime adaption, though.

But yeah, a Kai-esque remake of the anime wouldn't work. The anime isn't based off an existing work (unless you count the games), so there's no such things as episodes being padded to fill more time. The series is quick-paced enough that it wouldn't benefit from having material from the different episodes cut, and "filler" is nothing more than "episodes where nothing significant happens". And in that case... can't you just skip these episodes yourself next time you watch the series?

so there's no such things as episodes being padded to fill more time.

Isn't that only partially true? Because without something to base the anime off of, they really have no where to go except to make things up. Which is why DP is likely to have more episodes then the other regions because they're trying to close in on the next thing they can base the anime off of (game wise).

All Kai does is slightly improve the animation quality, redub the voices, change the BGM, an opening and ending, as well as get rid of the filler episodes. So, within 8 episodes, the Saiyans have arrived to Earth where it took 21 episodes in Z.

Pokemon has no need of this- the anime is consistent with the video games; so long as there are new main series RPG video games coming out, there will be an anime.

All Kai does is ... get rid of the filler episodes.

Uh, no, that's the entire point. They're not just skipping the filler episodes, they're removing extraneous scenes from the episodes themselves in order to cover more ground quicker than before. Pokemon doesn't really have any such content that could easily be cut in order to cut the episode's length in half.

If all they did was skip the filler episodes, that could easily be done by just airing the original without those particular episodes.

Same with Pokemon - don't want to watch the filler episodes, just... don't do it.

I think they should go back and update it with new 'Mons. Like, for instance, the Maiden's Peak episode. They should have Gastly turn into a Zangoose instead of a run-of-the-mill mongoose.

Well, we could only hope this can be done with the reruns on Pokemon Sunday.

I hope they never re-do old Pokemon episodes.

As Adamant said, you can simply skip the worst fillers that you know you didn't like next time you rewatch the show.
