What IF the GS ball wasn't dropped out?

Do you think it would have affected the Johto saga in the least? It was major plot device which was supposed to contain Celebi so I assume we would get plenty of plot-related episodes in Johto as well related to the mysterious ball and how did Celebi exactly come in that ball or how it came to be?

Do you think you would have enjoyed Johto more if GS wasn't dropped out or what do you think would have changed with it?

EDIT: I hope this thread is okay, it's not meant for bashing Johto, just for fun speculation. :D

1.Less Useless EPS
2.GS Ball Like In Japan

That's what I was thinking too, perhaps there would be less fillers.

But I doubt we would have gotten *that* much less. I don't think we would have gotten anything more than a three parter out of a "Celebi in the GS Ball" storyline.

1. Ash would capture a Hoppip with it.

2. Ash would own a Celebi.

3. Like Dogasu said, a 3 parter.

4. It would become the TRio's main objective and act more serious (like they do now in Best Wishes)

We can't really know whether the writers were planning on introducing a new character related to the GS ball or in making villains more reccuring. Possibilities are endless, so many things could they have done with Celebi. Possible time-travel, backstory, more villains, they did in fact say that Celebi was supposed to be a star of of a large arc in Johto saga.

and it would have some of the story line of 4ever(i bet they keep a bit of the story line)

I wonder how similar they were, in fact. Was it Celebi or was it something else that made them get rid of the plot arc of Johto?

because they made a movie about celebi and they said they going to make that insted

Movie 4 proved Celebi can be in the same time plain many times. It could be out of the ball and locked in it as well. So there was no excuse for it not to be used in the anime. It was already a better idea than to have even more filler. No matter how much filler could be dropped, it would had still been better. Lugia already had a movie, yet that didn't stop them from forcing it into the anime. Celebi made more sense. Three parter or whatever, would had been a breath of fresh air, however small, and we wouldn't be stuck with such a pointless plothole.

There wouldn't be less fillers. Most likely we'd get a 2-parter where Celebi popped out and that's it.

Remember, this is Johto after all, there's a reason Johto is remembered as, "filler hell," in the anime.

Thank's to Johto, we have the biggest plothole in the series. Instead of wasting our time with repetitive filler episodes with the Johto COTD's, they could have instead given us closure to the GS ball plot among other things.

But of course, it was Johto, so we couldn't expect much. We all had to lower our standards when dealing with that particular saga.

I would have absolutely loved that.

But anyway, it would have been cool if they had involved it some way in one of the movies. They had a movie based around Celebi anyway so I'm not sure why they didn't have the GS ball there.

What I don't get is how a time traveling Pokemon would be so hard to factor into the plot for the Johto saga just because it appeared in a movie already. Other than being a different Celebi, it could be the exact same one but further along its own relative timeline before being trapped in a GS ball, and also making it a perfect opportunity to have made a call-back to the movie.

I mean, whatever perceived plot holes could have arose from having both the movie and that plot could easily have been hand-waved with time travel.

Considering most of the Johto legends all appeared in regular Johto episodes, I don't see why Celebi couldn't have still appeared in the ball. Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh (kinda), and even Raikou all appeared in the Johto episodes.

It was just incompetence on the writers during Johto. But again, considering the types of episodes we were getting that saga, I am not at all surprised.

Yeah, they could've used the GS Ball as a tie in to Pokemon 4ever.

Masamitsu Hidaka didn't explain in that interview why the writers decided to save Celebi for the movie. Not only would it have been possible to do both the movie and an anime arc about Celebi, but failing that, they could have at least used the GS Ball in the fourth movie (especially given the link to Professor Oak), or they could have based that movie on Suicune, Raikou, Ho-Oh and even the real Entei (with Celebi getting a TV special instead of Raikou).

While it is easy to call the writers incompetent, I think there is more to it than that. They may have meant for Celebi to be released from the GS Ball back in 1999, but that is not what happened in Crystal a year later - the item summoned Celebi, only to disappear right after that. Anyone who actually paid attention to the in-game event would have a hard time believing that the ball contained a second Celebi. Now, it's fair to say the writers did consider Crystal when they changed their original plan, seeing as the GS Ball was distributed twice in 2001 and was a fairly big deal in Japan. So I at least give them credit for not contradicting the in-game event, even though they ended up not doing anything at all with the GS Ball.

The real mystery is what the ball did contain, but that's not for the anime writers to decide.

Did it have to contain something? Looking at it now, the thing could've been made to catch somethin specific. That would've also made for an interesting plot. Old texts depicting the real use of the GS ball surface and the TR organization seeks the ball, finding it and wish to use it to capture Ho-Oh or Celebi or whatever. Hell even now it could've been tied to Arceus in the anime. A Pokeball that will allow one to control God? Hell of a lot better than movie 12 already. >_>
