...and what does it really do?

I know/remember vaguely that:
- They (I think) have made at least some preliminary designs for Pokémon species--at least the 1st generation.
- They always appear in the triple copyright with Game Freak and Nintendo, so they own parts of the franchise copyrights.
- They have a bunch of characters/mascots, the most prominent of which is Imakuni?.
- They aren't that big (as in prominent).

Is all they really do Pokémon-related stuff? If so, why were they made a separate entity? Does anyone really know how they came about?
 
They do the Pokémon cards, it seems. An interesting point is that the current president of Creatures, Inc. is Tanaka Hirokazu, and the previous president was Ishihara Tsunekazu.

As for history... well, it seems that they were involved in the creation of the original game code, as well as many of the side games. One of the anime planners is also from Creatures/Nintendo.

Anyway. The only way we can really find out is to see which company each of the names in the credits is associated with.
 
If you check their website, you'll see that they also make other things.
They made Pokémon Ranger together wil HAL Laboratory.
