On a Togepi, what is that thing that looks like an eggshell. In the games, it hatches from an egg that dosen't even look like that! Plus, it seems to lose the shell when it evolves into togetic, but togetic keeps the color characteristics of the shell? The pokedex entry says that "its shell is filled with joy". Any thoughts?

Yeah. It's like an outer membrane.

Maybe that's why it loses the shell once it becomes Togetic.

It's leftover parts of the eggshell. It's egg doesn't look like that in the games because it would take too long to do an egg for every species of Pokemon (although that would be cool).

Well, yeah, but then why would togetic keep that same pattern on its stomach?

It lays eggs that have the same patterns as it. Just like Vulpix eggs in the anime have red tail patterns on it, Teddiursa eggs have moon patterns on it, Pichu eggs have striped yellow patterns on them, etc. etc.

The official art for Gold and Silver had some different eggs for different Pokémon. They had a yellow and black egg and a Togepi-patterned egg.

I wonder what pattern Meowth eggs have... Charms?

Just curious. Has anyone ever drawn art of all the Pokemon eggs? Because if they haven't, I could do some concepts...
