I am currently playing HeartGold and I can't think of a good strategy to training my Pokemon. Any tips?

What's your team and where are you struggling currently? Or do you just mean exp training? I'd say either the E4 or the cave where Mewtwo was is good for exp.

Grind. GRIND. It's basically necessary in HGSS with the level curve.

Seliph has the right idea, though if it's any consolation, of the arguably hardest battles in the game, one is fought towards the very beginning (Whitney) and the other at the very end (Red). Because of this you don't need to compromise on the flow of the story too much, and if you find yourself in the hot seat during a battle just make like Lance and vomit full restores as necessary. Trainer rematches also help, though admittedly not by much in my experience.

Mega Man (right?) also has the right idea. Personally, though, I've usually found the early-game trial and tribulation to be Bugsy. Also, I've found grinding never really has interrupted the flow; in fact, it almost seems like it is part of the story. It just feels like the trainer would be grinding before plot-critical moments, especially the E4. Remember Ash's little training regimen before the Kanto League? he probably did for the others, too, but I don't watch it too much any more.

Also, trainer rematches suck. They are way too infrequent and way too easy. However, @DuckSaysMoo; like kaiomann said, where are you in the game? We need to know to accurately help you.

I beat Lance's entire team in my first play through HeartGold with a Staryu. I hardly bothered to train the Red Gyarados from Lake of Rage, and it was fairly easy (and, more importantly, entertaining), but the miss chances for Thunder and Blizzard were pretty bad. Grind and get TMs as necessary. Use whatever Pokémon you find that you enjoy, and don't skip any of the Trainers in the Gyms or on the routes; that's how I did practically all my training. I used to hide from them like a wuss when I played Gold when I was 6, and, then, I wondered why it was so difficult, but, then, I realized that basically all my 'mons were underleveled. I find that it's easiest if you just use, like, 2 or 3 Pokémon against anyone that's in your way. If you only use a few and they're at a sufficient level, it won't matter if they're not fully evolved (like Staryu, Kadabra, or Haunter).
