I'd say Ash/Angie, Dawn/Conway (one sided for both though) and a revived interest in Rocketshipping seem to have gotten some love this generation, but not much else.

Although Kotone acting like a love motivator in the new DP eps seems interesting, we've seen too little of her to really comment yet.

Do you feel the writers are bringing any other ships to our attention?

Dawn/Conway (one sided for both though)

I kinda disagree with this. I never really got a shipping vibe from them.

I think Penguinshipping should be included too. I know the writers haven't done much with it, but I still got a shippy vibe from those two during Kengo's last appearance. It wouldn't surprise me if the writers started moving that along when the Grand Festival comes along.

But if things turn out the way it looks like they will in DP146, Rocketshipping could end up being the shippiest thing during the DP contest arc.

^ Which is kind of ironic when you think about it, considering Rocketshipping was considered totally dead in AG.

Considering no ship has really been promoted that much in DP so far, I would probably say Rocketshipping and Morpheusshipping since they've at least gotten something. I guess HeatTagshipping has too, kinda, but that's debatable.

Oi, DP has so many possibilities for pairings, but I have a hard time thinking of ones that actually have support rather than things that I like because I'm ridiculous.

But yeah, I've noticed an increase in Rocketshippiness just in general, and Morpheusshipping, but I doubt that Angie's appearing again. I really like Heattag, though it's entirely one-sided from Conway's part, and uh...crap, that's it.

To be fair, they're not playing up on Penguinshipping even a tenth as much as I thought they would, but whatever.

Was Rocketshipping heavy during the Johto era?

I don't really remember much of it past the Orange Islands. I know during AG they made James say, "I'd rather die!" then get married to Jessie, but I wouldn't say that totally killed it back then.

After all, the same writers from back there are the same people in DP, correct?

Well, it's not like Johto wasn't Rocketshippy at all, but it was definitely not as shippy as Kanto.
I agree about Pokemon AG not being really the best time for Rocketshipping... Though I consider the whole "Sweet Baby James" incident as an exaggeration. James is simply gamophobic (thanks to his ex-fiancee). He doesn't want to marry Jessie, fine, but the truth is, he doesn't want to get married AT ALL. Or I should say, he's completely afraid of getting married.
It didn't have to mean that he doesn't like Jessie.
On the other note, in his imagination, he was doing the household duties while Jessie just ordered him around and laughed... Funny enough, there was a scene in Pokemon DP when he was ironing her contest dress, and didn't seem to mind it... xD;

They definitely enjoy spending time together and have a strong relationship.
They also proved many times that they really can't live without each other and that they're ready to sacrifice everything they have for each other. So even if they don't end up getting married, it won't mean they don't have feelings for each other at all;)
I'm glad that Rocketshipping is promoted again :)

And I know that I may be biased, but this is how I see it and couldn't help but share ;)

I'd just add a few things to what jessierocketka said.

Was Rocketshipping heavy during the Johto era?

Eh, not really. There were a few cute things, but there wasn't some big focus episode. As little Rocketshipping as AG had, at least we got "Love and the Origin of Youth"

I know during AG they made James say, "I'd rather die!" then get married to Jessie, but I wouldn't say that totally killed it back then.

Especially since in Japanese it was more like "Anything but that!". PCI really didn't need to take it to such an extreme.

I also think that line was meant as a joke. His life is pretty much like that already.

For the most part the writers are the same as the ones from Kanto. All the big Rocketshipping writers are still around.

So then essentially Rocketshipping started during Kanto, existed through Orange, dried up a bit during Johto (along with every ship, Johto had very little shipping all around), focused on little during AG, (although the hoso specials are from the AG era, so I wouldn't say there was nothing), and suddenly increased in DP?

I guess with that ship you never know. It could dry up again in the future, but since TR will always be there until the very last arc of the anime, it probably isn't anything to worry about.

I'm just surprised that characters who are temporary, like Dawn and all the DP rivals, aren't really pushed enough in terms of shipping. Half this gen is over already, I wonder why they're not bothering as much.

That would be correct.

Yeah, that's how we look at it. As long as they're on the show there's always a chance.

I agree. With Rocketshipping it makes sense not to do too much, but with Penguinshipping for example, you know they wont be around forever, so why not move things along?

Things have been so unpredictable with DP that it's hard to tell what the writers are thinking about anything.

Kenny's only had 3 appearances over the entire span of DP. If it weren't for the openings, I gather people would have forgotten about him.

Aside from his lack of appearances, his personality itself isn't dynamic enough to take notice. In the ep where Piplup refused to evolve, you could see how Kenny was brushed to the side for most of the ep, when instead he should have been focused on with Dawn more.

Eh.

Well, that's all down to opinion at this point, there's probably still people who are all "oh my god it's kenny", and have spazzes over him and such, but I was wondering more how he got to be automatic 'best friends' with Jun after just meeting him.

But yeah, they haven't done as much with DP shippings as I'd have hoped, because there's so much potential. And it's kinda sad, but oh well, whatever.

Not every season needs to have a 'shipping focus. Whereas Hoenn/Kanto focused on May's love life and not so much on Ash's, I don't see why they need to have some primary 'ship to focus on for Sinnoh (the same formula gets boring if you just went through it). A few dabs here and there, but it does seem like they're more focused on actual character development than the loves of their lives.

So heavily promoted? None.

Ugh, Ikarishipping seems pretty popular. It out-populates Coma 9 to 1 on Deviantart :(

But not canonically, at all (neither ships)

Morpheus is definitely one, They attempted a little Penguinshipping, but because Dawn's Contest arc isn't the best in the world, he's easily forgotten (tearcry).

*waves Rocketshipping flag*
Why yes, a time old ship is getting love in a new era ;-)

I've nothing much more to add. We have one sided Morpheus, partially one sided Penguin and not-very-shippy-at-all-but-slightly-perverted HeatTag :p And that's about it!

Only a matter of time until we get an AshxSoul ship. Will I support it? Probably not, probably stick with my roots of Pikashipping ^-^

Speaking of which, Pikashipping does get a decent amount of attention, but I'd have to say Rocketshipping. I don't support it epically or anything, but it's an okay ship and I say that's gotten the most.

Also, I'm GLAD Ikari blots out Coma...mainly because that's my least fav boy with my fav boy. Also one of the reasons I hate Poke, least fav girl with fav boy(and its way too onesided and overated, in my opinion)

Still, I'd have to say Rocket is getting the most attention.

Ash X Soul already exists...it's just her name is Kotone, not Soul.

Anyways, Rocket seems to get the most attention this series.

D: *sniffle*

Comashipping's my fave. I <3 Paul. And I <3 one-sided and unrequited.
Pokeshipping just doesn't have as much dynamics as it used to.

Oh, but back on topic! Yeah, I took a break from Rocketshipping for a while because the fandom disappeared kinda during Johto/Hoenn. But now all of a sudden, it's been revived! I was quite shocked when I decided to come back to the fandom.

Its now been 11 years since the original series, its no surprise that people have gotten nostalgic to get back into Pokemon.

Also, I remember when Gary came back into DP, people thought Palletshipping would kick off in the fandom again, but Gary only got 2 episodes out of the 150 ep span of DP, so he's so low-key again that it didn't happen.

Oh! Oh! Oh!

...I'm rather surprised no one's mentioned ColdCoffeeShipping yet...

Jun only mentioned Shinji in what... one or two episodes? I'd hardly call that heavily promoted.
