I'd say Machamp because it has 4 arms for manual labour

or maybe Dragonite because it is said to fly & transport goods at supersonic speed

or porygon2 because it has trace and thunder wave and recover and thunderbolt/ice beam haha :)

What is the most useful Pokemon of all time?

Yeah Machamp is good for its labour, but would 4 arms make it more clumsy if using the top two the higher up they are beside face so machamp can't see them fully). I'd say Hariyama though.

Chanseys for their healing abilities

Zigzagoon for its pickup ability (but linoone is not so good as it can only move in straight lines, but its fast)

porygon 2 would be the most useful in battle, I agree with that

yessss another porygon-2 lover :) now for some breloom love haha

Alakazam could be used in lieu of a Supercomputer
Lugia could calm the seas for ships to arrive to harbor
Ampharos can be used to light lighthouses
Sudowoodo can scare people that walk by, by pretending to be a tree

I love pokemon :)

I'd have to say Meowth. If you've got one with Pick-Up, it'll snag you some great items. And if yours knows Payday, it can get you extra cash during battles. I'd say that's pretty useful.

"Meowth! My wallet is attacking me! Use PayDay!!!"

Yeah, I'd totally have a Meowth.

Palkia or Dialga for the distortion and manipulation of space or time.

Umm, quilava becuase he's the bestest.

No, I'd think Meowth would be cool. Extra cash is always good.

Who needs a flux capacitor when you've got Celebi?

edit: Just wanna point out the usefullness an electric pokemon would have irl. Would save a ton of money and is enviromentally friendly(except for the poor abused electric pokemon xD)

For northern life, Growlithe by a long shot. You get the all the affection and utility of a dog AND an effective and reliable source of heat rolled into one. Houndour would also be able to do this, but I think that a pure Fire-type would be more effective.

Your guys' suggestions are good for practical purposes,
but I was thinking Porygon to be a super haxxor xD and manipulate anything related to computers.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Lapras or other water monsters, for surfing.
Flying types are good for air transport.

If you were a Pokémon trainer in real life, I think Chansey/Blissey would be a team staple for it HP recovering abilities. Especially if you were poor and couldn't afford potions, or fit them all in your backpack.

Suicune would be amazing because it has the power to purify dirty/polluted water.

I would have to say Venusaur because it has lots of vine wips so it can carry lots of stuff.

Another very useful pokémon would be Swampert, because it has the ability to predict storms by sensing subtle differences in the sounds of waves and tidal winds with its fins. It is also sensationally strong and has enough power to easily drag a boulder weighing more than a ton. The combination of being able to swim as fast as a jet ski and it's powerful vision that lets it see even in murky water would be amazing for rescue efforts for saving people from drowning underwater but could also be utilized searching for long lost treasures under the ocean's waves.
I could imagine Swampert being used by coast guards to get people off the beach before a storm and helping in rescue efforts underwater due to it's phenomal vision, fantastic swimming abilities and astounding strength.

Absol.
It would have been nice to tell you about 9/11, China's Earthquake, or England's floods last year.

An electric type to be used to power stuff
a magmar for heating
a metagross to use as a super computer
a lapras for crossing seas
a flying type for transport
a porygon to hack computers
and meowth for cash

Metagross would be useful for both its hyper-intelligence and its ability to move objects with its mind, and indeed it's phsical strength (provided that it can get the load in question it on its back, although an obvious solution to that would be its telekinesis).

Ok, I got it... a DITTO!! It can change shape and become whatever you want it to be, so long as it sees the object first! Problems solved, unless you need something that it has not seen or you do not know where to find it.

And would the coins from Meowths Payday meant to be useless outside of battle as they disappear after being used? In D/P you can gain money from using them though.

And Bidoof? Thats crazy, Rattata now theres a different story...

You could also have a slowking to sort out scientific/brainy issues as its so intelligent.

I'd say Mew. It can transform into any pokemon at will, it can fly, it can teleport, it can turn invisible, it can swim and it can learn every move available on a TM or HM.
