What is with Gardenia and Thorton's hair?

I was thinking of discussing this in the Brendan thread however that's about him.

Do you think they have multicolored hair or not?

I've heard a few people say that Gardenia's hair is a headband or a cap. I don't quite get that though; How can it be anything but hair even if it's dyed?
I suppose they mean she has a black headband on her forehead or the orange part is the cap. I've also heard that it's dyed in PokeSpe, the anime, and DP Adventures.

Thorton...It's a bit more hard to tell with him. He doesn't exactly have that many sprites, media appearances, or official art.

I always thought Gardenia's hair colour variation was the shading. I haven't really seen a lot of artwork of her so I'm not sure.

To me, I think Thorton's hair is multicolor the same with Gardenia, at first I would think that the black is a headband but with it being under her bangs and on the underside of her hair, I would guess her hair is multicolored. These are guesses and surmises on my part but with the drawing style of the character designers, it makes it hard to tell because they don't use texturing in the hair, though it would make some of these issues easier if they did -_-;

I think black parts on Thorton's hair are a head accessory. Just look at his offical art and zoom it.

Gardenia's hair is probably Yugi case.

not like a true shading, like that part is the true color of the hair.

Gardenia's hair is just a bob cut hair that is badly done.
But Thorton's hair has a weird stuff going on. It looks like his bangs from the right was swooped up, then the other half from middle was swooped down.
What distracts me more is Fantina's hair. I looks like 4 Drifblims.

Yeah. Thorton's hair is pretty weird. But animéesque characters do oftentimes have weird hair. Just look at mine.
